  1. If youre only looking for a body for a project, I dont think you should concern yourself too much with 240 vs. 280 (260 bodies are really just 240/280 bodies depending on date of manufacture). The basic body lines are all the same. The most important thing is finding something rust free. There are cosmetic differences obviously, such as badging. The interiors also get more "lush" the later the model year. As mentioned above the later models are stiffer (and heavier), but they also have other upgrades like beefier spindles. If you care about the engine, well then you need to decide if you want EFI or carb. There are only carb 240 or early 260's. Somewhere late into the 260 model they switched to EFI. Obviously the later the car the bigger the motor and the more power you can potentially make if you choose to stick with that motor. Anyway, I would keep your options open to all 3 models to increase your chances of finding one in good, rust-free condition. All of the other stuff can be changed. Im assuming since youre here on HybridZ and not "that other forum" that youre not obsessed with stock restoration. - Greg -
  2. Definitely check all your hoses and hose connections. What doesnt leak when cold can leak when hot! Look for white deposits around the hoses and hose connections -- surefire sign of a leak. - Greg -
  3. Very odd... BFG's website only lists 3 sizes (18"), DiscountTireDirect only lists one size (low stock 17") and Tirerack lists a huge selection between 15" and 18". Not trying to be argumentative... just seems none of the big online sites agree with one another, including the manufacturer. I was thinking maybe they discontinued them in smaller sizes. Anyway, like you said this isnt about those tires it's about BFG Sports and they are a fantastic and well-priced tire. - Greg -
  4. Would take some fab work, but the late model Infiniti G20 Sport has nice clear sidemarkers: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=MorePartInfo&PartID=174712&siteid=55&catalogid=3231 - Greg -

  6. The Sports are a performance summer tire as well. The KD's don't come in any size under 18". You may be thinking of KDW's, which are quite a bit more expensive (40%) and noisy. According to the reviews they are better than the Sports but not enough to offset the extra cost. The Sports are actually one of the best rated tires for the price. - Greg -
  7. Hmm.. either youre trying a different size or the zip code actually matters. I just bought these last week for $99/ea mounted and balanced before rebate. - Greg -
  8. For anyone that isnt on the Sears mailing list, they are having a 50% off sale on their entire GearWrench line. If you dont have a set of these you NEED them! http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/subcat.do?BV_SessionID=@@@@0514629110.1183152729@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccgdaddlgegfkfgcefecemldffidflk.0&gridindicator=true&sid=ie_9979_D_x23&cat=Hand+Tools,+General+Purpose&subcat=Wrenches&vertical=TOOL&Filter=Type+of+Wrench%7cRatchet+wrench+sets%5eBrand%7cGear+Wrench%5e&ihtoken=1 - Greg -
  9. They are fantastic tires. I just ordered them in 225-50-R16. They are going for $99 EA (mounted and balanced) at Discount Tire, plus BFG has a $40 mail-in rebate on a set of four. That beats Costco, plus they can do Ride Matching for another $10/corner. - Greg -
  10. It would just choke the motor and possibly stall it. Kind of like Axel Foley putting a banana in your tailpipe - Greg -
  11. Im thinking a good analogy would be a sumo wrestler blowing through a swizzle stick. - Greg -
  12. You can also just bypass the TB altogether by disconnecting the hoses and joining them together directly. This would keep the circuit flowing if it is used for more than just a TB warmer. Not sure if youre trying to decrease intake temps or clean up coolant lines in your engine bay. Didnt know about the air regulator! - Greg -
  13. Thats the throttle body warmer. In a warm climate like California you shouldnt need it. A lot of people use that coolant circuit for their turbos. - Greg -
  14. I used Synthetic grease (Castrol IIRC). I used the same stuff to repack my hubs. - Greg -
  15. Did you test your stock fuel sender to make sure that it delivers a linear signal to the gauge? Not that Im saying the Autometer gauge isnt at fault -- they havent been the greatest quality in my experience. - Greg -
  16. Wire your gauge directly off your battery and do the same test. That will rule out the car wiring and should be a relatively easy test. - Greg -
  17. The MC's on the early Z cars have a vertical bolt pattern. You want the 79-81 ZX specifically. That will increase you from 7/8" bore to 15/16" bore. EDIT: This would really help if you asked a different question - Greg -
  18. Very cool... My hood springs like to rattle when the hood is closed. This will be a great fix (eventually). - Greg -
  19. You can also roll over a speed bump and see how the car bounces. You want to go just fast enough to get the weight to transfer. Dead giveaway if it bounces more than once or bottoms out, or the car rocks side to side badly. - Greg -
  20. I guess my post was a little misleading... the size does matter but it doesnt need to be huge. The larger the drain the tougher it will be to route back to the block. I also had a -3 feed line (with restrictor) but with a 3/8" outlet. -10 seems overkill to me -- I never had any problem with oil not draining. From -3 to -5 or -6 is a pretty massive size change, even without a restrictor. IIRC the stock turbo drains on a 300ZXTT are about 3/8" (-6). - Greg -
  21. The size of the return doesnt really matter, -5 or so more than enough. That feed size is gigantic. Do some searching on "Oil restrictor". - Greg -
  22. Actually after I posted I thought of going back and editing to say exactly what you pointed out, but figured I'd just do so in a later post if necessary But yeah, thats really what it all boils down to. Market price determines reserves. The important point being that we will find more as we consume more. Additionally we will eventually be forced to consume less because the price forces us to. This is no different than the Greenpeace saying we are destroying the world with our garbage. There is just too much speculation in their arguments and none of them are particularly well thought out. Of course consumption will increase, mainly because of the industrialization of China. Metal prices are skyrocketing for similar reasons. This still ALWAYS brings us back to the same point -- consumption drives reserves. Ive never heard someone arguing that we're running out of copper or iron and that we better find an alternative to metal or the world is going to collapse! It also bugs me that everyone says "Man I should get a hybrid car, it's good for the environment", when really they should try "I need to do my part and carpool to work, or ride a bike once a week". Instead we hold the corporations accountable for our own personal wastefulness. How many Prius' have you seen driving around with only one person in them? - Greg -
