This thing is tiny: http://www.westcobattery.com/miata.html Not sure if it has the CCA to get you going, though. Definitely a fair weather battery in any case. - Greg -

Ive never been a fan of adjustable cam gears that use set screws. They can be handy for tuning on a dyno, but they just dont seem reliable long term. Im surprised they didnt even hold up for one pass, though! Im not sure what motor you are running, but maybe someone makes this style of adjustable cam gears for your application (these are for the SR20): They are a bit more work to install/adjust, but there is ZERO chance of slipping once installed. JWT has a similar design. EDIT - Guess youre running an RB if this is in the RB forum, huh Do SR20 cam gears fit on RB cams? - Greg -

Two* Nissan 350z 03 04 05 Six Speed Transmissions
MrFancypants replied to RB26powered74zcar's topic in Non Tech Board
Yep I heard the same - serious issues with the VQ35 manual transmissions until 06. Nissan had to do a LOT of warranty replacements. - Greg - -
Stock 4-speed tranny fluid? (already searched)
MrFancypants replied to Astral Ace's topic in Drivetrain
You can check www.redlineoil.com for a local distributor, or order from here: http://www.upr.com/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=67 - Greg - -
So youre using the stock 12V pump to drive your surge tank? Were you able to run the carb setup with just the stock 12V or is the mech pump necessary? - Greg -

What GPH am I looking for on a L28 with SU's? Here are a couple others with less flow: 30 GPH @ 4psi: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=CRT%2DP60504&N=700+115&autoview=sku 30 GPH @ 6 psi: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=CRT%2DP60430&N=700+115&autoview=sku Im not too worried about a lot of return fuel, especially if I will be using this to drive a surge tank down the road. - Greg -

Stock 4-speed tranny fluid? (already searched)
MrFancypants replied to Astral Ace's topic in Drivetrain
The spec should be 75W90 or 80W90 (GL4). There are lots of options in that weight, but I recommend Redline Heavy Shockproof or Royal Purple MaxGear. - Greg - -
I read a thread indicating that the mech fuel pump on the L-series can leak fuel into the crankcase. Fuel in the oil is bad. I noticed a lot of fuel in my oil, so naturally I suspect the mech fuel pump. I'd like to rip it out and replace it with an electric fuel pump. Since Im eventually going to replace the motor entirely and go EFI, I want to use something that will be useful in the future. The most highly recommended LP electric fuel pump Ive seen is this one: http://www.racetep.com/webfuelspark.html#webfuel http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=CRT%2DP4070&N=700+115&autoview=sku Now, is this the right pressure/flow for the dual round top SU's to completely replace the mech pump? Will this be useful for a surge tank application down the road as the low pressure high flow pump feeding a high pressure EFI pump? - Greg -

Someone showed me this ad earlier today - might be right up your alley http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/tls/418787874.html - Greg -

Ive decided on this air dam: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7AD2/50-1412 Then I did a little searching on shipping and found a thread referencing this one: http://spoilers4less.com/741278fronai.html Both are urethane and look essentially identical. Any reason to prefer MSA over spoilersforless.com? It sounds like I'll save at least $50 by going with the latter. - Greg -

EGT and Turbo's - Post your EGT numbers!
MrFancypants replied to Nigel's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
I was always told that 1100-1200 degF is the safe zone for EGT. 1600 degF is a lot (boom). - Greg - -
He's also lucky the guys he hit didnt have insurance so they didnt care too much. If someone w/o insurance hit me I'd probably hold them at gunpoint until the cops showed up. - Greg -

i need new tires
MrFancypants replied to Castor Troy's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
If you are interested in a different size, I have an almost new set of BFG gForce Sport tires for sale in 205-55-R15 size. They are the same overall diameter but narrower tread, obviously. - Greg - -
Tokico HTS and New Springs
MrFancypants replied to z-ya's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
How much did you shorten them? How much shorter are the HTS cartridges vs. the Illuminas you replaced? - Greg - -
Thats funny - I thought the same thing after they squished the sides and nose of the car. Looked just like a Mini! - Greg -

My favorite is the response "Not bad." What is that, Good? Fine? Anything but bad? Then there is the derivative "Not too bad." Well it's a good thing it's not REALLY bad, but it could still be sort of bad? Im as guilty a person as any for saying it, though! - Greg -

There are intellectual property laws but I havent heard of anything as broad stroke as "if youre a student researching at university X, any discoveries belong to the university". In the corporate world all of this is governed by IP and confidentiality contracts -- not sure if there is a special law for learning institutions, but somehow I doubt that. Once the contract establishes who owns the IP, then the laws are there to protect the use of it. Also, you dont have to have a patent to prove IP. - Greg -

One of my favorites, from the master spinster Donald Rumsfeld: "Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know." Sad thing is the logic isn't flawed but it looks ridiculous! - Greg -

Cant remember for certain if they are coarse or fine, but I would wager they are fine thread. Nissan doesnt seem to like using coarse threads much. The easiest solution is to get both nuts and bolts at the same time, but I would guess they are M12x1.25. If you want to be certain, compare them to your lug nuts/bolts. - Greg -

A good rule of thumb on helmets is: Buy the most expensive helmet you can afford. It's your head, after all. Randy has always had good prices: http://www.randysracemart.com/ - Greg -

I find that unlikely given that my 260Z has a tag rating it at 165 hp. There was a change at some point where HP measurements were changed to SAE net, but that would decrease all measurements, not just for one year. - Greg -

Are you using AN hard line or AN SS teflon hose? AN hose will cost more but will be easier to route. If you are passing through firewall or frame rail you will need to get fittings to do so. The AN classification just determines the size of the line and the fittings you will use -- temperature and pressure ratings are determined by the material used. There are no o-rings in AN fittings, but there is such a thing as ORB fittings (O-Ring Boss) that use the same thread as AN but seal with an o-ring rather than with a flare. It would help if you give us some more information of exactly what devices you are trying to connect and what their current inlet/outlets are, where you are going to route the line/hose, etc. -- that will determine what fittings to use. - Greg -

My T/C Rod bushings from MSA
MrFancypants replied to nbesheer's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
IIRC on the ZX the orientation is reversed since the TC rods mount forward of the control arms. - Greg - -
I have to pull on the latch slightly to get it to close -- cant just drop the hood. - Greg -
