Getting to that point now. The JCI kit is on the way, motor and tranny are in the process of leaving the Firehawk and I'm turning my attention to the wiring. Any of you swap vets have an opinion between the two (and I probably need to look more closely at the S&P harness)? I did use the search function but no one has really compared the two that I could find. Seems like the LT1350 harness is less expensive. Is the quality there? Thanks for your help. I know that one of these days there's going to be a question that I can actually answer instead of always mooching off of everyone elses wisdom... Thanks guys. Bryan Dat240zg

Clive: Did you chop the rails on this one to get the motor and tranny? My Firehawk is stripped down and pretty much ready to pull the motor and tranny and I'm still debating which method to use: Chope the rails w/a sawzall or unbolt the k member and crossmember and jack the body up and over. Any thoughts? Bryan Dat240zg

Congrats.... How soon before you have some pics? Bryan Dat240zg

Guys: I'm looking for any tips regarding pulling the LT1/T56 as a whole unit. I've searched and saw the pic that 1tuffz had of evilc's camaro, but I don't think that I can get my firehawk up that high. I was thinking of jacking up the back of the firehawk to give me a little bit of an angle edge, but it still looks crazy. Anyone else have any thoughts? I have the normal tools to use - cherry picker, jackstands, etc. Thanks! I'm ready to get started! Bryan Dat240zg

Will do. I'm going to try to document as much of the process as I can for a website that I'm building. You're right - almost everyone that I've been able to find reference to has used the JTR kit. I guess that one of the things that is swaying me to Johns is the fact that it (can) come ready to go with the T56 (tranny mount, hardware to adapt the speedo, etc). I didn't notice the same from the JTR site. Honestly, I could have missed it, but I just didn't see it. One way or another, this ought to be an interesting ride, as I have to have the swap completed and all of the bugs ironed out by the start of August! I think that it's safe to say that I have my work cut out. Bryan

Also, props to Deja for the heads up on the Fbody.com advert. I'd already registered and will be contacting them. Thanks! Bryan

Well, one blow out on the uhaul trailer later and I finally got the firehawk to Nashville for a stop over. The car is immaculate! I was surprised how many people were familiar with the Firehawk - seemed like someone was always stopping to ask questions about it at every fill up - which was fairly often. I think that the Titan is getting around 12 mpg with the car and trailer, but tows like there's no tomorrow! The car ended up being so nice that I'm really feeling a little guilty about parting it out. Oh, wait...guilty moments over, back to good thoughts about that LT1 + my Z! Bryan Dat240zg

Thanks guys for the good words. As far as the Johns LT1 kit goes, it's hard to find. You have to go to both of his web addresses and one of them takes you to the LS1 info and the other takes you to the LT1 page. Here's the LT1 page: http://www.johnscars.com/zcar/zcar.htm And the LS1 page: http://www.brokenkitty.com/zcar/zcar.htm Anyone else have any comments on John's LT1 kit they'd like to share? I'm heading down to GA to get it tomorrow. I'll have to chronicle the trip/swap on my new website (not yet up). I'm pumped! Bryan Dat240zg

Yup, sorry about that...got a little excited. I've been watching and waiting for a good deal to come around now for so long....sheez. I think that this last move was the third house I've trailered the Z to. Hopefully, it'll be the last! Now to start selling off the parts.... Bryan

Here's the link to the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4645828905 Curious, why the strong feelings for JTR? Bryan

Honestly, I've been pretty impressed with what I've heard about John's LT-1 setup and haven't heard a bad word about it. In researching it, it seems like it comes down to personal preferences (JTR vs. John's). Bryan

Alright...just gotta share with someone....I finally got my V8!!! I just won an auction for a '95 Pontiac SLP Firehawk w/37K miles. Car has very light damage to the front (didn't even reach the radiator support) and aside from that is in perfect shape - beautiful! Now to get my hands on John's mounting kit.... It has begun! Don't know if this will work for you or not, but I mounted mine on the backside of the firewall inside the area covered by the wiper valence. I drilled a hole through the firewall and fitted a rubber gromet to protect the wiring. I then fed the wires through, put them inside a wiring sleeve and ran it behind the MC and Clutch resevoir and then up towards the front of the motor. Very clean look, stays dry - nice and out of sight! Bryan Dat240zg

I think that it'll be a little to soon for me (just finishing up a home purchase/move), but I'll go ahead and ask. What are they looking to get for it? Could you describe the damage? Where's it located at? Thanks for the input guys. Bryan

Curious: Getting ready to purchase my LS1 wreck for the swap and am tracking both a z28 and an SS. As far as the swap goes, is there enough of a benefit to the SS to justify the price difference (approx. 2k) over the Z28? My plan is to part out the car to pay for the swap. Anyone want to chime in? Bryan

Clive: Any chance that you could post a little more about your experience parting out the camaro? I'm about a month behind you, just gearing up to purchase one and am just a little curious. Did you have the most success selling the parts via ebay or through other places? So it has been fairly easy to recoup your costs? Thanks. Bryan Dat240zg

D - Congrats! Well deserved from the look of it. Anyone take pics of the event like last year? BTW, I think that we may end up being semi-neighbors. Looks like our house has sold, so we're looking a home just down the road from you - off of Bellview. Once the move is done I'll give you a shout. Bryan Dat240zg

Did I see it right or what? The two guys that were racing 'busas ran well but it looked liked they were running for a third bike, not one of the two race bikes. I missed the beginning, so did someone else catch that? That was weird.... Bryan Dat240zg

Sommers: I'm Alive!!!!! Sorry that I've dropped the ball on getting back in touch with you. House and family have had to take a front seat to the Z. Hopefully, things will start moving (literally) soon. Oh...by the way...nice wheels!!! Bryan Dat240zg

My Vintage Air Install is almost complete *PICS*
dat240zg replied to qwik240z's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
David: I guess that I was curious to see how you handled the area where the old HVAC controls were. Have you fabbed up a new panel to fit in the old place to mount the new controls to? Is the new control panel back lit in any way? I really like the clean look of the billet controls. Thanks Bryan Dat240zg -
My Vintage Air Install is almost complete *PICS*

Beautiful! Very clean job on the install. Any chance that you have more pics to post? With these Arkansas muggy/hot/humid summers, I think the Vintage air swap is for me! Bryan Dat240zg -
Who's Interested in a Front Mount for Q45 Diff Install
dat240zg replied to qwik240z's topic in Drivetrain
David: I think that the majority of people interested in the front mount would benefit from the one that you've had designed. For me, I'll rarely drag or street race and will only occasionally autocross. I think the mount would serve its purpose for me. If it comes down to it, I'd be interested. Hopefully the discussion won't dissuade you from making a run of mounts. Thanks. Bryan -
I'll throw one in for Frank - he's legit. He got me a set of Euro taillights with wiring harness and they look great now! Bryan Dat240zg
