  1. The 40 post rule only applies to the parts for sale forum, not the parts wanted, cars wanted or the cars for sale forums. This is a new rule as of about 3 months ago, because we got tired of dealing with complaints from people being ripped off on parts sales. Most of those issues were due to those that weren't regulars here.
  2. 1) In a round about way, yes. But you'd have to be beating the snot out of it with poor fuel delivery to blow something to the point of a "ticking". 2) Try to pinpoint whether you hear the ticking louder on the exhaust side or not. Yes, a small exhaust leak can make noise similar. This could get louder as metal heats up and expands. 3) Not rocket science, and it is unlikely to come and go. Probably not the case.
  3. Disconnecting 1 cylinder should make a audible difference, but it's not as severe as you'd think. Has the car been sitting for a long time? Do you have any spark to #6? You should spring for some new NGK plugs regardless... If you have no spark at #6 you might want to look at the cap, rotor and leads a bit more closely.
  4. I loved the tower, probably my single favorite thing about London... and I really saw it all when I was there. The London Dungeon was kindof cool too, it wasn't far from the tower IIRC. British Museum, Imperial War Museum, London Museum... all interesting stops if you're into that kind of thing!
  5. [engineer hat] I'm not going to get too involved in the technical discussion, other than to say that shoulder bolts are not intended to carry cyclic loads axially. (ie: in tension/compression) If you use a large enough bolt, the load path doesn't really matter though...[/engineer hat] [moderator hat] I think you've both said your bits about the issues at hand, the last few posts seem to offer up very little in new information, so unless there is something new to report, enough bickering. [/moderator hat] I really need to get another head so I can wear both hats at the same time.
  6. And here is the final version cleaned up and ready to use.
  7. OK, the one posted above lined up very well with the 78 280z speedo I was using as a template. That's not to say it's perfect, it's only as good as the speedo I am using. Attached is the comparison to the one eric_503 posted above. Not sure what source it came from, but the final results are quite different, as you can see.
  8. Find a way to spend 3 or 4 hours at the tower of london while you are there.
  9. That exact thing has been done, search and ye shall find! (I found it last night, so I know it's here)
  10. Well put. This applies to Weber's as well. I've seen mismatched webers cause nothing but idle/low speed issues due to progression holes being different between them.
  11. Once you replace the stock oil pressure and water temp gauges with decent full sweep ones, you'll need a place for a fuel gauge and amp/volt gauge (if desired)...
  12. The overall size was decent about 0.030" too large on the diameter though. I've redone it in vector format now, and it should be bang on. (I am using a 78 280z gauge as my guide, since it has km/h on it... it looks accurate enough) I will print a trial tomorrow and test fit a last time before sending it out for vinyl. I also didn't like how the font matched up with the stock Z gauge fonts, the stock font appears to be Arial. I chose Impact instead, it's not a perfect match but I like it better overall... I think. I may yet go back to Arial. For those making their own, the 20km/h increments are 22° apart. JPEG attached. ***THIS IS NOT A FINAL COPY SO IF YOU DOWNLOAD IT, USE IT AND IT SUCKS, TOO BAD*** If anyone has other suggestions they think would improve it let me know.
  13. Gauges aren't hard to install, though installing the temp senders would be a pain. Why do you want trans/diff temp gauges? Generally reserved for race cars, no something that has much use on the street at all. Same could be said for the oil temp gauge on the street... Top end tick is almost certainly valve adjustment, I hate to say. Was it done by someone that knew what they were doing on these engines?
  14. I used these and overlayed them with the stock speedo, it looks like they are quite off. I have the 260km/h at the 155mph mark, which is off by 12km/h. 100km/h reads 56mph, which is actually 90km/h. Close, but not quite close enough for me...
  15. No, not the Coquihalla, just the island highway (highway 1), for about 300km round trip. Heading south next weekend with the car on the interstate, I'll see how it does there. My mileage is improved due to having a wagon with a 5 speed in it.
  16. I'd shoot for a declared value policy of 25-30k, depending on just how perfect it is.
  17. Just did the first real highway trip in the 2000 E39 528iT. 32mpg highway. 23mpg city. I'm pretty happy with that! I expect on extended highway (ie: interstate) it would be about 35mpg, the highway I was on had a lot of stops.
  18. Looking forward to more photos!
  19. I've been playing this one for about a month now, and am really getting into it. For those that like empire builders... crossed with the old BBS style games that you only get a certain number of "turns" per day. It's one of those games you can log on once or twice a day and enjoy. Lots of potential for politics and intrigue as well... http://www.travian.us/?uc=us2_5810
  20. Depending on how bad they are, I'd try to nail down some doors in better condition and use them rather than spending tons of time on rebuilding.
  21. Don't let the nay-sayers keep you from posting, post away. If anyone gives you trouble then the admin staff will be happy to help you out with them. That is the point of this site after all... Let this be a pre-emptive warning to those that feel it necessary to ♥♥♥♥ all over someones ideas without being constructive. We will come down on you.
  22. Now that is the money shot, right there. The car looks frickin' great!
  23. Nothing wrong with a miata.... on the track anyway. I had one for the first steps of my now abandoned Lotus 7 build (it was to be the donor car) and actually enjoyed driving it quite a bit. Felt like the early Z in many ways. I think they make great, inexpensive track cars.
  24. Regardless, it sounds as though 0.012" or so is the right amount to be proud. I will measure when I disassemble and see if I can get some smaller wire in place with the Ishino gasket.
