  1. Cody, The calipers came from a 240SX, you can use 1989 through 1994 year models. The disks are from a 1983-85 300ZX. A very beautiful setup if I must say so myself.
  2. Did you break (open) a line when you worked on your brakes? If so you will have to bleed them. Sometimes it is hard to get the light on the dash to go out because there is a switch inside the proportioner valve that will move one way or the other if for instance the front or rear brake lines loose pressure. This will also make the light come on. Also on the ZX there is a couple of wires that go from the brake caps down to the switch. Check that these are still hooked up.
  3. Always glad to lend a helping hand to a Hybrid Brother in need. I am glad to see the package made to you in one piece and that you were able to use the parts from my old Holly carb as well as the new (but opened) rebuild kit. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance ;o)
  4. Talk to Ross about this he will set you up nice. The only thing I had to buy, (that Ross did not supply with my order), with my 240SX rear conversion was the long brake line that runs from the passenger side of the Z to the driver's side. I bought that at O'Rielly Auto Parts. The braided lines that you can get from Ross are great looking and easy to use. Here is a pic: (Note in this early pic I had not yet cut off the old hard line mounting boss. This is something that you have to do).
  5. lol Yeppers our local paper has a scandal sheet that comes out every Monday I think (don't know because I stopped paying for the paper a long time ago). Anyway, they list the names of people who made police reports or got arrested for the week. Remember that police reports are public records except for of course Family Violence reports. You also can not get info on juveniles or rape and sex crimes victims. Anytime a police report is made members of the public can come down and request a copy of the report. Departments usually charge them a fee if they are not in the report. Newsmedia types have a person that they send to the police departments on a daily basis to collect info from police reports. PS Tim I just saw your post, lol I already have Tony's address, Has the Holly stuff arrived yet Tony? Just kidding I know it can't be there yet.
  6. Welcome to Mayberry Tony lol I would check with the police department to see what the original report had in it. Do not ever take a newspaper's word as gospel, I know I have been bitten once or twice myself for the local paper "misquoting" what I actually said. As far as the officer taking the report on a piece of paper, we all do that. We use clipboards with legal pads, small memo books that fit into our shirt pockets (sometimes referred to as a "007 book"), and sometimes we even make notations on the palm of our hands. The info that you gave him then should have been put on an official report. Most larger agencies now do the police reports on a computer so it is not feasible for them to type on a computer while they take your info. Nor is it safe (in the field). The missing/stolen tag is then entered into a national database called NCIC. That way if I run across your stolen/missing tag in Georgia on a traffic stop I can make the arrest of the individual in possession of the tag or at least investigate the situation. Now on the other hand I have seen officers in my time who could not get a report right to save their lives nor could they do anything else right. Just remember, police officers are human beings just like you. They are not always perfect but for some reason the public expects them to be. How many bad mechanics, lawyers, doctors, teachers, or parents do we have in this world? I would say many. So... I would definitely check with the police department and get a copy of the original report. If it does indeed contain the errors that the paper printed I would have it corrected immediately and I may go so far as to talk to the officer's supervisor. Hope this helps ya out my brotha ;o)
  7. Hey Bartman, Will you have to run spacers for the front wheels? If you do have to use spacers are you going to a longer wheel stud? It looks like that massive brake caliper will stick out past the hub. Of course that maybe just the picture angle that I am looking at. Sweet looking set up I may to invest in the same thing.
  8. God has it been that long! I too remember reading the original post that you made a couple of years ago and the feelings that I had on that day. It is good to have you back old friend...back where you belong! Charlie B.
  9. I forgot to mention Ebay. There are a couple of V-8 Z's on there right now and there is also the JTR book that I mentioned up for auction on the site. Again I would make damn sure that I went to look at these V-8 Z's on Ebay before I even considered bidding on them. You will get a new one ripped for ya if you are not careful.
  10. Welcome to the board! You can buy side pipes from Jegs, I think a company called Patriot makes them. I have seen a few Z's and ZX's with sidepipes and they look fantastic! I too am comptemplating doing this one day. You asked-Where is the best place to look for a Z similar to what I'm looking for? Hybrid Z's are all over the place. Just be careful that you do not get bit by someone elses bad work. Remember you usually get what you pay for. I have looked at and drove a couple of Hybrids since starting my project and passed on both of them. One guy even drove down from N.C. to meet me near Atlanta with his death trap! Wanted a lot more for his car than it was worth. You asked-What are some good resources for parts (mounting kits etc.) for doing a v8 swap? (just in case I cant find a hybrid) Check with a company called Motorsport Auto (MSA) and Jags that Run (JTR). Both of these companies have the V-8 mounts for the Chevy engine. You will have to have custom mounts made for any other type of engine. Buy the JTR manual and read it. I still read mine and find new stuff that I have overlooked all of the time. You can get the book from Jegs or Summit if I am correct. Last but not least try using the search function because a lot of questions like yours have been answered a thousand times or more on this board. Good luck to you and welcome aboard!
  11. Got your pm and I have your address. I will get it to you as soon as I can for the cost of shipping. I will get with you tomorrow and let you know how much. It shouldn't be too bad I think. UPDATE 2/28/05 Sent package this morning, enjoy ;o)
  12. Great job! Those look as good or better than the ones that I have from MSA. Keep up the good work.
  13. Back when I was dating my wife I had a 1979 280ZX. One night coming home from her parents house and running about 60mph, I ran over a dead Sheep Dog that was laying in my lane of traffic. The truck in front of me swerved at the last second to avoid hitting the thing leaving me with little time to react. I couldn't swerve left because I would have hit someone head on and I couldn't swerve right because I would have hit a guard rail. So I decided to straddle the dog. It was like everything was in slow motion once the dog disappeared underneath my ZX. The front of the car cleared the beast, engine, transmission, rear end and then BAM! The dog hit something at the rear of the car and jacked both my rear wheels off the ground! When I finally regained control I realized that my ZX now sounded like a diesel truck it was sooo loud. The dog had knocked/broken my muffler off along with any pipes that were connected to it. My wife was following behind me in her old 240SX and she told me that she did not know what had happened. She saw the rear of my Z lift off the ground and then saw this big carcuss spinning past her driver's side. I took the car to the local muffler shop the next day and the mechanic called me in to look at the damage. He pointed to the undercarrige and showed me that there were chunks of dog meat still on my suspension and underbody. I know that's gross but it is a true story. I will never forget how it felt to drive my car on only its front two wheels. Next time I think I will take my chances with the guard rail.
  14. I am about to buy some aluminum Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads #60899. These heads have 64cc combustion chambers and I will be using flat top pistons. This will be on a Chevy 350. I have two questions on this matter. #1 Do you guys recommend angle plugs or straight plugs on these heads? #2 Do any of you have these heads and if so which configuration do you have and why? I have a set of cheapo headers that I bought off of Ebay some time ago. I bolted them up to the stock heads which have straight plugs and they seem to leave just enough room to change the spark plugs once installed. My biggest fear is having to remove the headers just to change the plugs.
  15. A few years ago I too had this idea except I went to a professional sign maker place and asked them about it. The guy showed me some gauge faces that he had already made for a local fellow who owned a hot rod. He told me to bring him the gauge faces that I wanted and he would scan them in and then use a high grade paper to print them on. He said that people do this sort of thing all the time. By the way my wife bought me the MSA white gauge overlays for Christmas a couple of years ago. I still want the Autometers ;o)
  16. Tony, Glad to see that you have it fixed and running. By the way my Holly also uses a tube from the front bowl to the back and it sounds like the two are pretty much the same by reading the description that you posted of yours.
  17. Yeah I saw that one a while back and I couldn't believe it when I did! I mean it's 2004 and two 70's model Z cars are on a commercial, cool!
  18. Tony, If you cannot fix your carb, I just happen to have a Holley 1850-2 (4160) that I will not be using. I would gladly ship you the part you need. I already have the carb broke down because I was going to rebuild it before I decided to buy the Edelbrock. By the way the screwdriver method will probably work and tapping the hole afterwards is an easy thing to do. Good luck.
  19. Yeah I hope to get back into the garage today when I get out of bed (just got off from a 12 hour shift, 7am Georgia time) to finish the job. Still haven't decided if I will mess with heli coil or tap. Oh well we will see later on today.
  20. Thanks guys, The reason I did not use an ease out is a simple one. I do not have one. And I was also afraid of breaking that off in the head, I have heard that they are almost impossible to get out once you break them off. Also remember this is going to be a V8 car and I do not want to spend any money that I do not have to spend on this motor. I had the drill and bit, I have the exhaust gasket already so wallah, the choice was a simple one to just drill it out. Only took me about 2-5 minutes to do once I got everything out of the way. I also have a heli coil so there you go, a repair to a nagging problem (severe exhaust leak) to a temporary engine that cost me $0 dollars. Just sweat and scrapped knuckles. By the way I have used an ease out once before with good results also, I just did not have one laying around and was too cheap and lazy to get in my truck and go get one. Thanks again guys.
  21. I was tinkering around with my 76 280 the other day trying to replace the exhaust gasket. When I looked for the exhaust header bolt closest to the distributor (front of engine) I noticed that it had been broken off in the head. This explained why I was getting a terrible exhaust leak at the front of the engine! Anyways, my question is this. I took everything out of the way and drilled out the broken bolt. Do you guys recommend tapping out the hole or do you recommend using a heli coil?
  22. ND240 I mocked up my 350 block with the front crossmember and steering rack using the MSA mounting system. I will attempt to post a pic of just how close my 7" stock balancer comes to the rack. If the pic doesn't work you can visit my Hybrid Gallery for more pics and different angles. I also took a few with the lower pulley on the balancer. Hope this helps. with pulley without pulley
