  1. Oh brother, now I see why the mods are on a "short fuse." lol nevermind folks I will leave it alone
  2. I love the rear end of this car! The Mustang look is unmistakalble and you did a great job with trailer lights to achieve this look. Best looking rear taillight treatment other than original z lights IMHO! However, the front of the car isn't as pleasing as the rear, just my opinion. I think that maybe if the front bumper was a little longer it would flow better with the lines of the car. But I can't be negative about your project because overall it looks very good. Especially for a garage paint job
  3. Sorry Warren but this is in the wrong area. Should probably be moved down the page a little to the non tech section because it doesn't belong here in the Chevy V8Z section. ***Pete I think you were probably right in an earlier post where you suggested moving the Chevy V8Z Tech Board down the page a little
  4. Thanks Mike and others. When it gets a little warmer I plan on getting serious with the project again. I can't stand the cold weather! I will attempt to get the engine, transmission and other things in the car by myself and leave the wiring to someone who's done this before and is very sure that they know what they are doing. I will be there to of course and be able to learn in the process.
  5. Austell, man I will be heading off to the academy in Austell or is it in Powder Springs in about 10 minutes. I was there yesterday and will be there tomorrow as well. Here's what I am thinking about doing. My main MAJOR hang up on this swap thing appears to be electrical. Hence I have not a clue as to what to chop from my Z and what to keep. I know the fuel injection stuff goes but beyond that I am scared as hell when it comes to wiring the rest of it up. So what I am planning on doing is getting my 350 rebuilt and ready to go in the car along with a 700R4 tranny that I haven't purchased yet. Oh and do not forget about the drive shaft. Then I would love to have someone come up and help me wire up the engine. I spoke to Georgia Z (Daryl) and went to look at his V-8 Z once in Douglasville. He may be a candidate for some much needed help when the time comes. I just thought it would be kinda neat to go and help someone with their swap and be able to learn from the masters. Pete, Scotty, Dan, Racer X uhhh could you please come down to GA Wait isn't Mike kz in GA?? LOL we could have our on Monster Garage show.
  6. This may be a dumb question but where did you find that link? But anyway, it looks like it doesn't work for my idea because unless I looked at it all wrong it says that the most ever on line was 5 and that was in March 03 Yes I too like to work on the Z myself but I am tired of just having a V-8 Zcar dream and not the reality if you know what I mean. I know that unless I have someone with some experience helping me when the time comes to put the engine in and wiring it up I will bungle the job. As far as the wife thing goes, she is my only helper right now so I appreciate her very much I do not mind another man touching my car but ya toucha my wife and cut ya fingers off
  7. What if we started having a weekend "Z car raising?" You know like in the old days when people would come together and have a good ole fashioned barn raising. Say for instance a person has his 350 on a stand, a transmission and everything he needs to get his project done but is missing one key ingriedient, experiance and helpers. I would love to learn from first hand from folks who have done this swap. The JTR book just isn't that useful to me right now. We could gather early on a Saturday morning and help the person get his project running. We could bring the wives and or girl friends so they could entertain one another while we work on the car. We could grill out steaks and have beer on ice. If we could get 5-8 guys together working on a Z we could eliminate the jack stand racing club all together one by one! Sorry guys Not to mention we would all get to know one another a lot better and become a real community instead of just an internet group. What do you guys think about this idea?
  8. Uhhhhh the Walmart here doesn't have that kind of girl working there lol we have two Super Walmarts in our town and they have older folks mostly working there.
  9. My love for the Z car goes way back to when I didn't have a pot to pi$$ in. When I was about 17 a guy down the road had a black 1976 280Z with oversized wheels and a sunroof, remember in the 70's sunroofs were cool . The guy took me for a test ride and I was amazed by the little car's attitude and verocity. However, he wanted $4,600 dollars for the car and I was a broke little redneck with a Ford Pinto! My parents were not too eager to help me buy this sports car because afterall they still had me on their insurance. I drove several Z's and ZX's back then never having enough money to buy one. I test drove a 1982 280ZX to my job at the grocery store and told them that I was going to buy it. Yeah right. The years and cars went by and I mostly forgot about the Z cars until about 1994 when I purchased my first ZX. I had a 1981 piece of crap Chevy C-10 pickup at the time and I was driving by a small used car dealership when I saw a beautiful silver 1979 ZX. I traded the truck and put some cash down and off I went. I wish I still had that ZX because to date it was the fastest Z that I have owned. I have also had a beautiful 1980 ZX that was off white with the red interior. I won several trophys with that one at local car shows. I cried when I sold that one I almost chased the guy down the driveway to stop him from taking my baby away. I now own a 1976 Z that will be my 350 Z soon, I hope, and a 1975 parts car that was to be the 350 car. By the way I bought an Auto Trader yesterday and saw some good deals on a couple of Z's and ZX's
  10. Drop me an email at apdsgt1031@yahoo.com and I would be glad to talk to you about the subject
  11. I just looked at the vids from the Alabama Hybrid meet that cruez posted a link to and I laughed my a$$ off watching Pete dust off that Honda with the fart can Man as good as that particular hybrid sounds all you could hear was the stupid exhaust on that Honda.
  12. Yep download the DIVX thing and you will see it fine. Sweeet Z
  13. The guy told me over the phone that he did the mounts himself because he was a welder in the Navy. He also said that he made the drive shaft himself. He sent me a reply that said basically that he would install my engine for me and I could buy everything else extra from him like the radiator and drive shaft and so forth. He would only charge me around $3,500 !!!!! WTF!! He only had his conversion up for $1,700 or so. Smells like a bad deal to me. ON3GO if I were a little closer I would have made the trip to see it but I did not feel like driving 4 to 5 hours for nothing. I already did that once back in the summer when I went to see another ebay V-8 Z in Tennessee that the owner said had a Chevy 327 under the hood. He lied it really had a 307 according to the numbers on the block. And it drove like crap, it had the same power as my inline six! Very disappointed over that one because it was my first time driving a V-8 Z.
  14. Exactly my thoughts. I will wait a while and contact him again. I was never going to bid sight unseen to me that would be insane.
  15. I do not think this is the main reason because I have all the body parts that this car needs just sitting in a shed in my back yard. As for the rust I would have to see it in person to make a judgement on that. A little rust especially repairable rust never hurt anyone. Besides the Z that I have now has perfect and do mean perfect floor pans. However, the battery box contained its share of rust and the fuel lines were almost rusted in two! They are fixed now thank god but my z is far from perfect. There has to be another reason why people are staying away from this one because the body and rust are the least of my concerns. The mechanical side of things is what matters. The guy said it was a strong running car with everything mechanical working fine. Except for the turn signals and lights lol.
  16. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=2456602622&ssPageName I have thought of making the drive up to North Carolina to see this one in person but have backed out twice. I even talked to the guy on the phone and told him that I wasn't interested in a "drag" car. I only wanted it to be streetable. He said that it was a very good street car. However, when I asked about driving back to GA he said, "oh I will just tow it for you back to your house, that would be better." WTF? if it is streetable why would you offer to tow it for someone? Also I went to an engine shop the other day and took a print out of the ebay listing where the guy lists all the engine mods and compression ratio etc... The engine builder said, "I can tell you right now that this car is not streetable with that compression ratio." I told him that the guy had told me that the engine probably would make well over 400 mph. He said that you could not build an engine like the one described for the asking price in the ebay ad. What is your opinion on this one guys? More importantly why does this car not get any bids? This the second time around for it that I know of and it didn't get any bids the first time either. Damn! I just saw in the Rules that this should be in non tech board Sorry guys, ok my pants are down around my ankles and I have assumed the position, whale away!! But be gentle
  17. That is a nice rear treatment but it could look a little better if he had dropped the license plate down a little and made a recess for it to sit in. But all in all it looks sweet!
  18. Haha exactly Rusty exactly tsommer it actually was about 5 to 6 years ago that i started to think about the hybrid idea, I think the bike accident just jarred the rest of my cells loose up there and got me going full speed on the project.
  19. You must be careful when you group people together especially when you haven't read all the posts. I never said a thing about the helmet thread but since you have to elicit a response here goes! I would have had a severe head injury about two years ago if it hadn't been for a plastic and foam bicyle helmet. I crashed hard and my head bounced off the pavement about three to four times as I slid along stripping the skin off of my knees, legs and arms. The bike finally landed on top of me with the end of the brake pedal and chain ring slapping up against my helmet. Riding a bike that means motor bike or bicycle without a helmet is just plain stupid! There now you can include me in on that one. There are certain speeds and circumstances whereas a helmet will not do you any good just as a seatbelt or air bag will not save your life in an automobile if the circumstances are right. That being said, I would hate to know that a helmet would have saved my life in a slow speed crash but I was too much of a dumba$$ to wear it. I stand behind what I said about these guys. They are extremely talented on these bikes it's just ashame that some of them will probably die at a very young age doing something stupid on their bikes. Lets just hope that there are not any innocent folks that get caught up in their madness.
  20. Yeah the tune is a littel catchy even though I personally do not like rap. A better question is what riff did they rip off to make the song. You know the little background flute and sixties sitcom sound they have throughout the song. These guys on the bikes are good at what they do. They make riding a sport bike seem easy. So why am I so teffified of them As far as some of the stuff that they did in the vid like riding next to a semi on an interstate at probably 70 to 80 mph while standing on the gas tank is crazy!
  21. I am rather new at the phot shop thing but I think it is hard to get a car to change to black. It can be done but I have not been able to do it yet. Check with "PHYTE" I think that is what he goes by. He can make you a black car.
  22. Home Depot sells flat aluminum in 6ft lengths. If is about 1/2 to 1 inch wide. That is what I used on my MSA front clip. One on either side and one in the middle. Nice work Tim! What did you use on the mesh grill to give it that ring around the outside diameter? It looks like it came on the car from the factory.
  23. I was wondering is anyone using the MSA drive shaft? Did it fit properly? I have a 76 and I know in their catalog they specifically say it will not work for the 75 but they do not say if it will not work for early 75's or late 75's. I only bring that up because some 76 Z's may have been actually manufactored in 75 and sold as 76's.
  24. My 76 Z has a couple of annoying problems that make me scared to drive it sometimes. #1 The oil pressure slowly drops to 0 when you come to a stop at a red light or stop sign. When you start going again it will rise back to where it is supposed to be. Could this be a problem with the gauge? Or a more serious problem with the oil pump? #2 After you drive the Z for a little while, about 15 to 20 minutes of driving, the brake light starts to glow I have bled the brakes twice since I bought the car but still I have this problem. What gives? Any advice will be appriciated. Oh by the way it still has the stock inline 6 in the car. It also has the 280ZX master cylinder and power booster and it has the 300ZX/240SX rear disk conversion done. The problem with the brake light was there before the disk conversion.
