Just starting my ls1/t56 build!

True, but are we talking GC coilovers or TTT or BC? I would agree with you on the GC coilovers. However not sure I wanna go through all that for GC when eventually I would get the BC coilovers. -

Just starting my ls1/t56 build!

Ok so today was a BIG day!! First my dumbass didn't tighten down my passenger header all the way and that + unwelded exhaust caused popping... welded up exhaust yesterday and tightened up my header today... totally sounds better! No more popping and sounds much deeper and throatier! Got my front air dam back on and steering wheel reattached and rear tires filled back up... went to take her out of the garage and no brakes... ****!! Just bled them too! possible bubble? Either looked up and found that I had no check valve on my booster... trip to autozone and bought a 6 dollar universal check valve and that helped some.. but still takes pushing to the bottom of the floor to get any real pressure. Not sure if it's because i'm using the original early Z booster which is a 6 or 8in booster? or the ls1 just isn't putting enough vacuum... or my booster is shot? Either way brakes are really shitty!!! Will rebleed them this weekend to figure out what's wrong and also bleed the MC itself to make sure no bubbles! Either way with the check valve I had enough brakes to actually drive just had to be careful.... F'IN WOW! That engine has some f'in power behind it in that little z! Learned the hard way that my suspension sucks. Every rev twist the entire body. Every take off makes the back in squat like no other. And apparently not having any sway bars makes for taking corners bad... So I think next is a pair of sway bars and then upgrade my suspension to be a bit more stiff. Have another video will post shortly as soon as it's done uploading to youtube. EDIT!!! also forgot to say... used a temp probe and it got to 230 then finally fans came on.. and holy crap is it loud! So radiator fans work and everything works... just not use to an engine getting that hot. I guess ls1's like being hot. -

RebekahsZ: Maybe it's because I'm revving it in the garage that it sounds so loud? Will have it pulled out tonight and check again. -

I'm using the stock camaro fan shroud with chevy thunders harness. I would say I let it idle and rev it a few times during it to hear the exhaust, but probably no more than 15-20 minutes at a time... but from just touching the radiator/hoses it's scalding hot.. hotter than I've ever felt on most cars. Which to me, makes me think that it's possibly overheating.. Friday I'm going to pick up some cheap autometer gauges from oreily's and see what the real temp is saying. Hopefully you guys are right and i'm just overreacting. Just the idea of warping heads before I even get her on the street would seriously bum me out. I'm also going to check the relays and other fan fuse that I didn't know existed. So apparently with chevy thunder there is a total of 3 fuses for fans... 1 for the 2 fan relays, and 1 30a for each fan. Both 30's are fine but the terminals look like they need to be cleaned. I have no checked the 10a fuse cause I didn't even notice it.. will check it when I get home. As of now tho, my car is fully wired for parking, turns, brakes, and headlights. I still need to wire my horns, and hazzards.. but those can wait. So far loving the EZ wiring 12 kit that I bought... sadly a few relays/fuses are going unused... such as the fan relay, ac/heat, choke, and one other that I can't remember. Sadly all my lights have corroded brass twist locks. Some lights I have to tap to get to turn on.. so probably this weekend I'll take all my lights out and clean up the twist lock terminals and probably buy all new bulbs.. I do wonder tho, if the flashers on the EZ kit would work with LED's ? or do I need to buy special flashers? -

Done! As of last night got the entire exhaust welded up. She definitely sounds better but radiator fans are still not turning on and I think my check engine light is lighting up. I need to find exhaust hangers to hold up the exhaust tho. -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEXmxGeJN8w ran out of gas and still have to weld the actual muffler on and also weld 2 other areas.. They are tacked but not fully welded. I also think I need to look into another muffler/resonator to help quiet it down. Also update album with more pictures of the exhaust. http://imgur.com/a/R7Cdd So researched the exhaust popping and come to find out that it could be popping due to a rich situation due to fast butterfly close and + having air introduced into the exhaust.. which would be possible due to a few areas not having full welds yet. I'm going to get her finished friday on welding and see if that fixes the popping or reduces them somewhat. -

ROFL! I would definitely agree!! I just hope I have enough gas to finish welding.. otherwise it definitely won't be until this weekend for a drive. Thursday I get in my new brake light switch so that should be solved. -

Exhaust is almost done. Only one more piece to cut and tack in then I have to figure out what i'm going to use for hangers... Then fill up rear tires and install brake switch whenever it finally comes in... then TEST DRIVE!!! -

So you are right... Apparently they have another tiny vacuum port next to the brake booster port.. Now it's plugged! Thanks for pointing that out! -

You talking about the port for the brake booster? Also finished wiring up my ez wiring kit for turn signals, headlights, and brakes. Then found out my brake switch is faulty.... Got another one on order! Need to fill up my rear tires then put dash back in then test drive? -

Got the y done and attached the muffler at the y just to see and that drastically changed throttle response!!! So much better now.. And quiet while idle but damn loud under throttle!! Getting close to a drive won't!! -

o2's are in, however the main exhaust isn't done. It's currently just headers with o2 sensors on them. Right now I have everything up until the Y tacked up. Going to finish that tonight and test my new muffler that came in today. Hopefully will have a nice sound. -

IT'S ALIVE!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWqjk8A2lNg Only thing bothering me is the radiator fans... they aren't coming on at all and not sure if I'm just not letting the engine run long enough or if one should always be on... or if something is wrong. Other than that, alternator charges at 14.2v which is good! With vacuum ports plugged up, she seems to idle much better and such, however if I blip the throttle then blip it quickly again... she doesn't seem to respond fast... is this another vacuum leak? or issue with just running open headers? -

ugh... no starting today... Got my tank up and routed all my hoses and found that i'm short 2 feet worth of hose... not enough to run it all sadly. Otherwise did all this connected +12v switched ign to my ignition switch from the ON position. ran a wire from the fuel pump relay off chevythunders fuse box to the fuel pump (just need to ground it next) filled up all the fluids! (transmission, radiator, clutch, oil and new oil filter) tightened my engine mounts modified my alternators black exhaust shroud to give clearance to the engine mount from JCI mounted the fuse box from chevythunder in the engine bay drilled and modified my gas pedal and routed the throttle cable and verified it was able to achieve full WOT. installed brake booster hose... had a bitch figuring out what size it is... (1/2 from the ls1 intake and slightly smaller on 240z brake booster but with enough elbow grease you can tighten it down to fit.) blocked off heater hose area as I might end up going vintage air and don't feel like reinstalling my heater box even after rebuilding it. had battery charged up and it was able to get back to 12.5v but they stated it's only reading 89% capacity... and wanted to claim it was bad and sell me a new one... after all that I couldn't start it due to 2 feet of f'in hose and apparently 4 missing spark plugs... I swore I bought 8 but only 4 are installed and can't find the other 4.... I have on order one more v-band clamp, thermo-tec sleeve to cover up the wires next to the passenger header, and 3 feet more of the black stainless steel hose. Things left to do Hook up alternator charge cable to + side of the starter.. (I have wire just need to actually cut and crimp connectors on it) Hook up ground on fuel pump buy 4 more spark plugs and install and tighten all 8 of them get fuel for tank let fuel pump run to clean out lines before I connect engine side of hose. (been sitting for awhile... who knows what crawled up my hard-line... might want to push fuel through it first before letting it go in the fuel rail) make new positive cable and new grounds from battery to starter/frame Then I should be able to do a solid start and hear the engine roar as long as I didn't **** up wiring somewhere. Anyway updated album with pictures of fuse mount and tank/fuel lines. http://imgur.com/a/R7Cdd -

Well I have a remote clutch bleeder and a mightyvac for bleeding.. Hopefully it's not that bad.. Got engine mounts tightened, throttle cable attached, grounds bolted down, and evap worked out. Next is filling the Trans with fluid and apparently I'm missing 4 spark plugs... Also I don't have a way to tighten the spark plugs with headers on.. Jtr headers make for too snug a fit! Also my old battery still shows 9v so hoping it's still chargeable? -

So today is the day I'm putting fluids in the car! Oil, radiator fluid, transmission fluid, clutch fluid... then buttoning up what is left... tightening the engine mount bolts, making sure everything is plugged in... installing my tank... adding fuel... and... HOPEFULLY A START!!!! -

rearranged the album so that you don't have to scroll all the way down to see the new stuff. tack welded the passenger side from header to Y adapter and so far it's a tight fit. To get the angles to match the tranny mount would require so many S curves to make it to the Y that it would look horrible and probably reduce flow. However like this it might touch the transmission bolts... going to have to find a way to give it more gap. Either way new pictures in the album with exhaust build. -

So last night started working on getting my v-bands welded on and installed and ended up getting dizzy/nausea and sick... apparently the v-bands are zinc coated and fumes got to me... I need to get a welding respirator so this shit doesn't happen. Either way updated album showing the passenger v-bands on. Will probably get to the driver side today and then see about getting the Y adaptor done as well. -

Yea still have mine... might try to sell it on ls1tech... warning tho since it's 98.. few people will want to actually buy the pcm -

All new connectors! I spent extra to get a better pcm as I had a 98 harness/pcm and apparently that year is a red headed step child of all pcm's.. so for 525 I got both harness and pcm of a newer car. -

Both sides now have o2 bungs and are ready for the vband clamps. Those should arrive tomorrow so will have pictures of the finished headers once they are welded up. Then going to start working on the merge into the Y adaptor. From there I'm going to leave it and focus the rest of my attention to getting my fuel tank, lines and all that done. Went to remove the evap tank and it appears my screws are so rusted that it won't budge at all. Got all the lines removed and was going to plumb new 5/8 evap line to the fuel filler and it appears the white plastic barb is stuck and won't come out.. going to have to figure a way to get it out and replace it as it's cracked and has issues. Then I can finish getting my tank back in the car. mount tank mount fuel pump and regulator wire up fuel pump wire up chevy thunders ignition 12v+ wire oil and oil filter transmission fluid radiator fluid battery throttle cable needs to be mounted and attached Then it's starting time!!! -

ended up starting my exhaust build... or at least the main down pipe from the headers that way I can attach my O2 sensor bungs and get closer to starting her up. http://imgur.com/a/R7Cdd Also have a short video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqWrwcPH8qw -
Wiring harness dilemma...
CableSrv replied to 2eighTZ4me's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
don't forget ChevyThunder for standalone harnesses. Cheapest of the group and still pretty damn good.
