Just starting my ls1/t56 build!

so the only concern is isolation mounts aka rubber isolators? other than that I should be good? Sweet will start working on where I'm going to mount them. -

LOL! the tank has been empty of fuel long ago and cleaned... won't have to worry about explosions from welding! Plus I welded on my sump, rotated my top evap line and closed off all the other evap lines as I won't need them anymore since I'm deleting the evap canister and directly attaching my evap line to the fuel filler hose. However with that done... I wanted to keep the fuel tank and fuel pump together so that if I remove one it's kinda all one piece.. just not sure if having the fuel pump and regulator attached to the tank is a good idea. -

Question.... I'm thinking of welding tabs with bolt holes on them to allow me to mount the pump and regulator directly to the tank... vibration issues... will the pump be ok with the vibrations if I have it directly mounted against the tank itself? Even if I use rubber isolators? Do you forsee any issue if I weld on mounting tabs to the fuel tank? -

sadly a month of no work.. feels good to finally be working on her again. At this point all I have left before starting her is new battery (old one is apparently dead and won't accept charge) wiring up the alternator to the starter (I have 4g wire) I also need to cut the black plastic part of the alternator as it comes in contact with the engine mount from JCI shaving the block to allow driver side header to actually sit flush on it's mount... installing o2 bungs on the headers making exhaust.... (but not needed to just start) reinstalling fuel tank, sender, and evap lines tightening all the fuel lines mounting fuel pump, regulator/filter and the additional prefilter sheathing for wires going on passenger side to protect from heat off the header.. any suggestions? I have black non glued vinyl tape but I don't think that's going to withstand the header temps... is there some wrap I can use? I think I'm going to start working on the fuel tank and evap lines this week. I need to modify the tank once more to rotate the 90 degree bend evap line on the top of the tank since it points in the wrong direction and it's not worth buying that pre bent fuel hose for like 100+ then I can run a short line from there to the fuel inlet up top and delete the evap tank. -

Finally had some time to work on the Z this weekend. Was able to finally mount the new radiator and the camaro radiator fans. While I was at it, also tried to install the JTR intake duct kit... however it seems the radiator support holes are not large enough for the aluminum pipe to fit through and it seems I'm going to have to cut the support to make it fit... Either way here is an updated album http://imgur.com/a/R7Cdd -
How large is the collector flange for JCI Headers?
CableSrv replied to Ironman's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
JTR headers ARE a 3" collector. The added end they give you drops the 3" to a 2.5" -

ugh this sucks... been in the hospital a week due to some shitty virus... been sick for a total of 3 weeks now. Finally getting better but haven't have time to work on Z since I'm recovering. good news is my JTR ducting kit came in!! So all I have left is battery charge, wiring, and fuel hookups and doing a down pipe for the o2 sensors. -

Items recently purchased but not all installed. O2 sensors - Purchased! radiator hoses - Purchased JTR intake kit - Purchased Air filter - Purchased Specter black 3.5in filter 6 gauge battery wire for alternator and grounds - Purchased transmission insulation - Purchased and installed firewall insulation - Purchased and installed truck bed liner for under the car - Purchased (need to paint on) UWS 133-25 weatherstripping for both doors and hatch.. (this stuff is amazing btw) Stuff still to purchase 5/8 vent hose for tank - $30 transmission fluid - $20 new oil filter and oil - $70 heater hoses - ?? (will loop just to hear engine start) Speed Hut Gauges - $541 (gps speedo and tach only) dot 3 brake fluid to fill clutch and brake lines - $15 muffler - $38-120 3in vband clamps - $40 bucks 2x $20 Sadly I've been sick most of last week and this week, that I haven't had time to work on the car! I'm getting a 3 day weekend and I think I should be good to work on the car some and I have plenty of goodies to play with. Sound deadener is in and soon weatherstripping will be installed. Got my new O2 sensors so will need to finally make some downpipes so that I can have them installed and at least get her started. Radiator and hoses should also be installed. Will also get the truck bed liner coated on the bottom of the car. Sadly I just ordered the jtr intake kit, air filter, and battery wire... so those won't be here till next week probably. -

not worried about rigidity.. more or less worried about not having a spare tire? then again.. not sure I'll need one... then again.. I'm not sure. -

This is true, but also means you lose your spare tire well. This was something I just didn't want do lose just yet. Not only that but having to modify the filler location was a pain I also didn't want to deal with. Time will tell on whether I might switch to a fuel cell myself. -
Nice work on the battery tray... I need to do mine as well

I thought about that, but lack of compressor and spray gun kinda nullified that thought I really do need to get me a new compressor.. But I'm slowly making headway. I got my exhaust pipe cutter so next up is probably starting my exhaust build. -

Man that MGW shifter sure does look awesome... but another 200 bucks I don't have.. damnit. On another note got most of the main cabin done. All that's left is a tiny spot right under the steering column which I need to finish cleaning off the crappy insulation first. After that I'm going to pick up some 3m super 77 spray adhesive and some reflectix from lowes and wrap the trans tunnel and firewall multiple times to make sure they are fully insulated. Then back to wiring up the tail lights.. -

Agreed! I used simple green and ospho on the tank before welding. Definitely make sure it's clean of all gas before you weld! -

Correct! The sump came with 1/2 fittings and just ordered some -8an to 1/2 npt fittings and seems to do the job well enough. As for prep.. just clean the tank and make sure no fuel is left. then cut and sand the area and weld her in. The sump had to be modified as shown to fit the bend in the tank. a simple pie slice cut out of each side of the sump and a hammer to bend it over. Honestly didn't even argon purge the tank as I was already low on my tank. Might have been because it was a overlap joint vs butt joint. But verified no leaks and didn't have to touch anything up. Afterwards I dumped a bunch of Ospho in the tank to make sure any rust that was left got removed. The white film you see in that picture is also from ospho.. the weld looked much better before the ospho lol. Wish I would have taken a picture after the weld vs after ospho. -

What are people using for the dust boot on the t56? It seems the shifter has a really wide base that it connects to... -

hehe! Yea, long ago I got in the habit of taking pictures of any project I work on to catalogue stuff I've done.. I guess you can say it's a man's version of a scrap book. -

trackzpeed, I end up doing a sump to my 240's fuel tank and ran whole new steel line for main line. I'm utilizing a corvette filter/regulator but keeping it by the tank so that's one less line to run. -

Will have to check on the battery to see what size it is. Awesome on the o2 sensors! Yea pcm already has rear o2's deleted.. just didn't know if they were reversable. Rock auto seems to list them as upstream/downstream left or upstream/right which is confusing. Good idea about extra o2 bungs... hmm might do that and cap them off for now. -

2 things I'm getting curious about... are o2 sensors reversible? can I buy 2 right upstream o2 sensors, or do I need a right and left side? Will my battery for my 240z work on a v8? or will I need to buy a battery with more cranking amps? -

Rain didn't start till late last night so I had a nice window to work on the Z. Got my passenger rear seat bracket fabbed up and installed. Welded up the trailing arm to reinforce it's structure since I had to grind some off to allow the diff to fit. Also sad to say that I re welded the front diff mount to be solid for now even though I should replace it... but when money is tight and I need to save for gauges and other stuff... I did what I could for now. Won't be able to do anything with the Z till this friday... so I'll take pictures then of what's been done. I got my sound deadener in.. just need to clean up the floor pans, trans tunnel, and firewall and prep for installing it. -
