  1. I'm a die hard turbo fan through and through...but...the truth of the matter is that the world's fastest cars all use superchargers/blowers. For awhile I owned a supercharged 2000 Chevy Blazer, I liked the V8 feel the supercharger gave it...power all the way across the rpm range. I've been into turbo'd Imports for years, but felt the supercharged V6 was easier to drive. I agree with the above post 100%. The easiest way this is going to work for you is to get a centrifugal supercharger (such as a paxton or vortech) and make your own mount. I may be completely wrong, but...if you don't have power-steering, I bet you could somehow modify a powersteering pump bracket or something like that to mount the supercharger to IF you have the room for it where the PS Pump would normally go (I have no idea since my Z is non P/S). You're going to have to build a box around your carburetor, though to pressurize it. I believe if you try to pressurize just the inlet side of the carb it will leak or have other adverse effects.
  2. Blue, I know this is off-topic, and I hate to interrupt, but...what kind of wheels are those that you have on your Z?
  3. I'll create my own L6/I6/alternative engine forum before having to listen and put up with ridicule from purists that are far from pure... We're already seeing the effects of the narrow minded. This topic should have been deleted before it ever got this far. I still haven't seen DAW respond in any way to it and I'm still trying to figure out why it was ever posted in the first place. It didn't take a psychic to see that this thread was going to cause some major waves in HybridZ. I'm going to do myself a favor and not read this topic anymore. All it does is piss me off.
  4. I finally got to see a V8 Z IRL (In Real Life)...and...boy, did I pick the right one to see!! Yeah...I'm hooked. For those that are reading this I went and checked out Rhett's 77 280Z tonight...it has a 350TPI setup running through vette style sidepipes...it's freshly painted (exact same color as mine as a matter of fact), has a cowl hood, molded in flairs/spoiler, shaved emblems, etc...he's definitely got the muscle car look down and the muscle car sound to go with it. Excuse me while I spend some more alone time in the bathroom thinking about it...
  5. I'd still like to do a 4G63/4G64 hybrid in a 240Z...You'd have alot more rpm than a L24 but about the same torque output.
  6. Arizona Z car went out of business didn't they? Any idea on where to get a similiar front end?
  7. Not that I don't believe you, but, if that's the case, why do most V8 users have 4 barrell carbs instead of 2 barrell carbs? Wouldn't the 2 barrels actually create more velocity over the 4 barrells? That would also apply to intake valve sizing...most people opt for big valve heads, although we know that smaller valves create more velocity (and as such, more torque) I used to build intakes for DSM's and actually got to see a customer's dyno results before and after the intake install. Going from a stock intake to a 3" intake he picked up 12hp WHP!! Of course, this was a mildly built turbo engine, so, as always...results may vary. Also, correct if I'm wrong...but, I thought that the FIA used turbochargers...??
  8. I admit, I have the MSA front and rear bumpers, but, I also chose to go with the MSA F40 style wing...I have a set of custom offset Ultras (16"x8) and the car is painted a porsche style red... Every once in awhile I'll get somebody that comes to me and says they saw me here or there...and I've never been there...but, for the most part, Z's here look fairly unique. I've had people leave me notes on the windshield and come up to me...and if my wife is behind me she says there's alot of people looking at it...I guess it is kinda nice having a classic lined car rather than something that looks like everything else (that's a Honda right? oh...wait...no..it's a toyota...err...what is that anyway?) One thing I've found about the Z...we get respect from both camps...the import guys like it because it's an import, and the V8 guys seem to give us our respect, too...maybe because it's a RWD sports car, I dunno.
  9. Ok...I may feel silly for asking this...but... Is it normal for Aussie's to have off road crash bars on the front of their Z? (not trying to be a smart-a$$, but just wondering if it's there for any particuliar reason)
  10. Yeah, I knew something like would eventually happen...but, I figured it'd be by some noob member that has been here like a day, rather than a long time member that has been around for awhile and become familiar with how quick some of the L6's are here. I still can't believe that this topic was even started.
  11. After thinking about this for a day... LOL, I realize this thread was started as a joke...it had to be...that's the only explanation for it. http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=26820
  12. I think what he's saying is that although bumblebee's aren't supposed to be able to fly, they do...and nobody can tell them that they can't...they don't care what the physic majors and mathmeticians say...
  13. Just to add what David said... it could also be a fuel pressure regulator leaking down...allowing fuel pressure to be lost...
  14. I think this is an issue of respect. On one hand I see a respected member of this site basically disrespecting other respected members of this site. I hope this topic gets deleted soon and I hope that at least a slight hint of apology is made. If not to those that have been disrepected, at least to the owners of the site. The admins and owners of this site have worked too hard on building it into what it is to allow the narrow minded to desecrate it. On the other hand, if this topic continues, respect will be lost (even more than it has been) and the possibility of splitting the membership is possible.
  15. There can be no good that comes from this topic. It should be deleted IMHO. It is so utterly rediculous that the chances of offence are too great for it to safely continue.
  16. Ok...I spent about 45 seconds to find two relatively quick Z's...both are members of this site... In one corner we have an LT1 powered 240Z owned by site member mas280...in this thread ( http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=26504 ) we see he runs a 12.5@107 (respectable for any car)... and in the other corner we find Turbo 240Z. On his website you'll find his timeslips...he's running a turbocharged L6 that runs 11.15@126 http://www.eng.fsu.edu/~jthagard/ ...DAW, you're pretty respected here, and I understand that...but, I think in this case your vision is a little clouded on what the HybridZ ideal is. By definition, a Hybrid Z is a Z with parts from various makes/models/years.
  17. So...if I'm understanding right...by that thinking... Shouldn't blown/turbocharged/supercharged V8's be limited to the V8 section since they are V8's and not be allowed to post in the turbocharger section? If you alienate turbocharged 6's in HybridZ you will lose alot of members...we all enjoy the V8's here, but, if a poll was taken I'm sure that you'll find the I6's heavily outnumber the V8's. The reason you don't see that many V8's discussed in the turbocharger section is because there simply are not that many forced inducted V8 Z's here. Why rock the boat if it's already sailing smoothly? Not EVERY V8 powered Z will out run EVERY turbo'd L6. That thinking is just outrageously silly. ...one more thing... I remember seeing a GN 3.8L-T powered Z that ran solid 9's...and it's a V6...if I drop a stock 350Ci in my 280Z, it will run 9's, too...right?
  18. Ok...I admit, I didn't think much about flares until I saw the above link...man...that car looks so bad ass... Now I'm thinking about getting flares!!
  19. I don't know if their still in business...but, there used to be a place called Okinawa Imports that had an RB26DETT+Trans+Ecu+Harness for $2800
  20. By playing alot of Nascar 2003. Seriously, though...when I bought my car it was actually pre set-up as a road racer by a local place here in town... Sometimes I wish i had more of a stock suspension, it looks ultra bad ass and handles just as well, but...with rough roads it gets kinda old...plus I have a severe left hand pull I need to fix (I have a bad bushing that is causing the camber to go completely out of whack)
  21. Hmm... You can't just lift anywhere on a unibody car...if you jack on the side rails you shouldn't have any problems...
  22. I'm still trying to remember his name...but...there was somebody that used to be on this board that was running a stock 280Z ECU and was running solid 12's...
  23. HP is simply a mathmatical equation based on torque and RPM.
