  1. Well, it's never a bad idea to take it easy on a car any time any major work is done for the first few days (until you're positive there are no leaks or other issues). If the turbo is that much bigger, I'd start off at the lowest boost and work my way up.
  2. RON, My guess is that the 16G's that you're finding on the trader are victims of clogged oil feed lines (probably one reason they replaced the stock turbo with the 16G). As long as you use a new oil feed and return line then you shouldn't ever have a problem. The most important thing that I could suggest, though, is the installation of a turbo timer. Without it you get lazy and end up not timing the car down properly. I just sold my '92 so that I could dump my money into my Z. It had a Griffen FMIC, Frank 4, 550's, etc...If you frequent DSMTalk.com or the Mach V message board you may have seen it. The only thing I don't like about the '90 is that it has the odd power transistor and the 3 bolt rear end, if you had an AWD. Other than that, the engine is actually better than the late 92 (April+) - 94's. I've actually just considered running a 4G64/4G63 hybrid (2.4L DOHC turbo) coupled to a Starion tranny in the Z. The long stroke of the 2.4L will give out plenty of torque across the entire RPM range while the head design will ensure plenty of HP, too.
  3. I've never seen or heard of a break in period for a turbo in all the years that I've been playing with DSM's and other turbo cars. Go ahead and boost it up and don't worry about it.
  4. http://www.apexi-usa.com/electronics_safc.asp There's a link to the Apex'i website...however...don't let their rediculous price fool you. If you're building a show car and are using the SAFC Apex'i has a boost controller, the AVC-R that complements it perfectly! Usually Road Race Engineering ( http://www.roadraceengineering.com ) has the best price on SAFC's... http://www.roadraceengineering.com/eclfuel.htm this link may do a better job of explaining how the SAFC works than the Apex'i one...

    3000gt?

I don't *think* it would be too much more difficult than a 3.0LTT swap from a later Z... The DOHC 3.0L was used in the Montero's in a few models, although, it was restroked and bored to 3.5L. Montero SR if I remember right... But, for the difficulty of the swap, I think I'd just go with a 2JZ.
  6. It doesn't look at boost levels, it only looks at MAF signals. The more boost you run the higher MAF signal it sees. To add a pic to your name go to my profile -> update profile and then scroll down to your signature and use the [ img ] [ /img ] commands to insert a pic, just like if you were inserting one into the text of a message
  7. No, unfortunately...I know nothing about that side of the planet...sorry!
  8. actually...I'm stalking you...that's why you see me here Just kidding. I really hope we can get your problem figured out for you so that you can keep the HOA Nazis off your back.
  9. Jade, Good to see that you're here. I wish you didn't live all the way on the other side of town, otherwise I'd be able to help you a little more. Given from what I gathered about the shop that patched your Z together, I'm skeptical about anything that did.
  10. The Apex'i Super AFC usually runs around $300. It can be setup for various different MAF systems (Karmen Vortex, Flapper, Hotwire, etc...) so it should be able to be wired straight into a Z. I'm picking a Super AFC (I've always had an older AFC, but it has dip switches that Apex'i has no clue how to set for a Zcar) as a trade for a tranny rebuild I am doing for a local DSM'er. Once I get it and get my 83ZXT and ECU/Harness installed I'll install it. The SAFC usually doesn't give great HP gains by itself, however, it's main advantage is that it allows you to run bigger injectors without having to run a standalone and allows you to tune the entire fuel curve. On my DSM, at least, I found I could smooth out the power curve and actually increase my low end spool (which was not too easy to do on my Frank 4) by adjusting the low end settings. The SAFC has two different settings. One for low throttle position settings, and one for high throttle position settings. So, if you want it to run a little lean cruising but you want it to run a little fat under WOT then you can have your cake and eat it, too.
  11. I've actually considered just swapping in the entire drivetrain from one going with a turbocharged 2.4L DOHC 4G64/4G63 hybrid If I remember right, the rear end is a 3.54, but I can find out for sure for you later, I'm not 100% sure if they're any stronger or weaker than your Z rear end. The StarQuest FMIC is not a bad FMIC. I'd probably redo the end tanks, but it's a great FMIC for the buck. It appears to be good for most low 13 second cars, with some dipping into the 12's. If you can afford to pay a little more, though, you might try checking out the FMIC available from turbochargers.com. 24"x3"x6" core for $500 with super low pressure drop. It's a top/bottom and the end tanks are on the same side which would mean considerably less piping.
  12. ScottyMiz, My bodykit (MSA front and rear bumper skirt and spoiler) arrived today, supposed to deliver to the paint guy tonight. Also, my L28ET (JE 9:1's, blueprinted bottom end, ported and polished P90A, oversized valves, schneider racing cam, Garrett T3/T4 turbo, etc..) should have also shipped out today. Hopefully I'll have the car back from paint by the end of the week...going to a Porsche red...
  13. If it is rpm related and not so much speed related, I don't think it's your diff...the diff doesn't care which gear or at what RPM your at, it only sees the speed at which it turns. If it was locking up that bad, I'd imagine you'd have some pretty loud noises coming from it...unless something just really came apart inside..
  14. Does it do it in all different gears? IE...can you go to a higher rpm in 1st gear than in 2nd gear? Or is it at a certain speed that it happens? When it hits 3K RPM, what happens? does the engine start to miss, does it run OK but just immediately stops revving past 3K? Are you sure the parking brake on the right side isn't sticking?
  15. I meant to ask this before...but...Scott...what's your base timing set at?
  16. Jeff, Did you look and see if there's enough room there for another style of intake?
  17. What seems to be the ideal choice for compression ratios on 280ZXT engines? I am probably going to be running running 9:1 on a T3/T4. I called Arizona Z Car and asked if they kept pistons in stock and told them I wanted 9:1 turbo pistons...he must know something I don't know, or I must know something he doesn't know...cause he appeared to think I was crazy...or stupid, or both...
  18. If you take your emission equipment off, don't be too quick to throw it in the garbage. At least keep it somewhere where you can find it again in the future. It's only a matter of time before all states start to emission.. Just a suggestion, though... Rags, did you ever own a DSM? I knew/know another "Rags" on a DSM site...
  19. Unfortunately, I know very little about painting...but...I have to add... Those are some of the funniest uses of smiley's I've ever seen!
  20. Yeah, it's definitely sounding like something along the lines of a plug wire...I haven't had to buy wires for my Z yet, but I can't imagine they'd be that expensive for a cheapy set from Autozone. If you know somebody with a Z, try grabbing their set and throwing on your car.
  21. Scott, Clipping in my opinion is almost a waste of time. For a street car, I want no clip at all. The spool will suffer, especially with a 12degree clip (which is pretty big, most I'd ever go with is a 10degree...but then again...I'm anti clip man! =o) Is your wastegate internal? I've seen alot of turbos suffer from cracked turbine housings, which would cause slow spool up.
  22. Hmm...well...at least you wouldn't have to keep adjusting your valves with the 90A head...which, in theory, would mean a quieter, smoother running engine.
  23. What is your AFM -> Turbo intake made out of? aluminum, rubber? Do you have any semi closeup pics of it? If the room is there, I may have a suggestion on how to build your own intake for it out of parts available at your local Home Depot for pretty cheap (under $20) that will allow you to get higher flow and dump back into the intake without cutting up any of your stock tubing...
  24. How much should one pay for a distributor (and shaft) from a 280ZXT? I need one but have no idea where to start looking...
  25. Hey, you'll be here just in time to help me drop my ZXT engine in Just kidding. Look forward to having you out here. Do you have any idea on which part of town you're moving to yet?
