  1. The truth is, the build is rather accidental. If there is one piece of advise that I can truly offer it's this: Beware of the "While I'm at it..." bug. You're doing a great job of documenting your project, and I'm looking foreward to seeing it come together for you.
  2. Sounds good to me. After all if you are in buisiness you can't be too careful!
  3. Funny you shoould say that, That's how I feel about Indy cars and FI. Of course I'm ancient, and still love the Curtis and Watson roadsters. I know all that stuff about how much better the technology is and how much faster the cars are now, but the carbon fiber things they are racing now don't resemble anything. Not only that but they'll never make a Honda or Toyota engine that sings like an Offy. BTW, I'm not a big NASCAR fan, and wish that they'd run more road courses too.
  4. Looks like you're off to a good start. Even though I don't have any experience with Gen III engines, but any encouragment or faulty advise I can offer just let me know. Until I looked at your pictures, I had forgotten how much crap I have thrown away. Its really great to see someone doing a late model block in a Z31. Here is how I got around the clearance problem on my gen I 350. I'm still having some headaches with clearing the top of the magneto. 1. Front clip removal, or how I cleaned the engine bay. 2. Firewall and floor removal. or getting the crap off the underside of the car. 3. The chassis. 4. Like you said, Worth every penny 5. Home made engine plates solved my motor mount issues.
  5. '58 Lola Mk1. Kind of expensive, and pretty hard to find. About 900 lbs. Cost @$125,000 Also not enough seats.
  6. Details, details. Just 'cause the car is undrivable, don't mean it aint purdy. Besides, maybe the owner likes a challange and thinks he'll look sharp in a body cast.

  9. Six weeks??? If I could get a anyting done in six weeks, I'd be one happy camper. My guy has had the car for 3 years and we still haven't got the flooor amd firewall back in. What really suciks is tht I'm doing a lot of the work and I'm no more motivated than my friend. good luck, and keep us posted on how its going.
  10. Using an aftermarket trans oil cooler shouldn't be any problem. Just be sure it is where it can get some air, and if you use the vehicle to tow, get a heavy duty cooler. Joe
  11. I never brake check. In 3 million miles I've seen to many wrecks. But thank goodnes there isn't any law against thinking about it.
  12. Me too!! 917-30 Of course there is the Eco speedster fof a daily driver. and the Watson just because it's beautiful.
  13. On the front of the engine in the Z31 I'm using an aluminium engine plate that I fabricated . In the rear is a steel torque plate of .090 mild steel. The only rubber mount is for support at the tail of the transmission. I did this mostly to stiffen the chassis, and transfer the torque load directly to the frame. (The same reason I am using inboard brakes in the rear.) The last pic is of the engine with the plates installed after I polished the heads and intake manifold. (Sorry about the pic quality, New camera.) Joe
  14. Maybe it's RHD and the it's the steering wheel thats wrong.....Or maybe it's a Yugo. :)
  15. Before you say that, maybe you should check out Chelle's RHD conversion.
  16. In the final analysis, there is only one person that it has to please and that's the guy who owns it
  17. g Perhaps now things are different, but long ago when I was a drag racer. Wheelstanders were indeed real race cars. For instance, the Hemi Under Glass Baracuda was running in the mid to low nines on two wheels as was Bill Shrewsberry's Little Red Wagon. These exibition cars often ran head to head. Granted Mid nine second runs may not sound like a lot to you young kids, but in 1963 that was pretty darn good! Actually I doubt there are many 9 second (while carrying the wheels) Z's on the board. This is just my beyond old school (preschool?) opinion.
  18. The chassis is finished, and the body is mounted. Sorry about the picture quality.
  19. Does anyone who is up in the Portland Oregon area know of a salvage yard that has a lot of Toyotas? I need the power stering pump, steering sensor, and steering ecu off a second generation MR2. There ain't squat in southern oregon.
  20. Hanging u turns in traffic is legal in Texas?
  21. I don't know squat about nissan engines, but it seems to me that the only way it would be possible to get wear on the sides of the main caps would be to grind through the thickness of the thrust face on the number four main bearing( in the illustration.) If that were to happen, the flywheel would take out the rear main seal, or the harmonic balancer would destroy the seal in the front and the engine would, at best, leak oil faster than it could be poured in. Either way, the bearings would be more than a "little worn down". IMHO. The mechanic is trying to stick you for a major repair. Just mic the crank and install new bearings.
  22. Dumpster? What dumpster? I thought that green thing was a Civic.
