  1. . In a few weeks I think I should be ready to start building the front clip for the Z31. Right now,it seems my only option is to get a whole lot of plaster and build a bolt together mold that I can separate. I've heard people talk about making a "splash mold". If someone can explain to me how it's done I think it might save me a lot of work. ThankJoe
  2. I know I'm a grouchy old fart, but I can't seem to think of any "cute" remarks to make. But most of you are pretty young and I guess you don't have very many friends in cemeteries.....yet. Most drivers are morons, and if they want to compound their stupidity by drinking, I think jail time is only fair to us that have to be out there on the roads with them. This may seem a little harsh, but you get that way after prying a friend and his bike from under a pickup driven by an alcholic redneck a*****e who doesn't know where he is. (End rant)
  3. I agree, HF drills are well worty the investment. The only problem I've had are the friends who borrow a bit and can't quite figure out how to open a drill chuck, and return a bit to the index.
  4. Why do I find myself thinkintg of the new Top Gear?
  5. Nothin' to it. I have an aquaintance with a Cobalt, so I unplugged his and traced the wires. As for how it worked, I don't know yet. So far I've modified the column to accept the Nissan switches, and just started mounting it. I do know that it is short enough to fit in the cabin even with the firewall moved back 4". Sorry about the pic, I'll take more when I get home from Portland.
  6. Here are a few things for you to consider. 1 A retired knuckle dragging tuck driver, such as myself, doesn't generally have money dribbling out his rear end. 2 This rant wasn't about the problems with the power steering. It was about the uselesness of so called "repair manuals". 3 Perhaps, if you had bothered to look, you might have noticed that this was posted LAST YEAR!!! Oh and by the way, I solved the problem with the steering back in January 2010. But thanks for your concerns for my intelectual capacity.
  7. Tony, You're right, I am a cheap ass. After all, wouldn't anyone want to spend $150 to find out what those 8 pins are for? It's only $18.75 per pin, and then I can have a FSM that I'll never use again. Whatta bargain!!
  8. I'm sorry, but the JY forgot to give me the card whenI got the column. As for Motors Manuals I agree, but I think they aren't available any more, or at least I haven't seen them in quite a while. If I'm wrong, I'd love to have a source for them.
  9. Er, I realize I may be just a a hick from Oregon, but I;n ;your wide travels you have apparently never been to Medford. If you had, you would realize that this is the land that timne forgot. Sob for your information and enlightenment, I didn't lowball anything, I went with what waqs availible. We don't all live in LA.
  10. Seems like a perfectly accurate article to me.
  11. I haven't gotten that far yet. You might try over at Z31 performance.com
  12. Nobody here has ever put an air dam on? Or is it that it's a Z31?
  13. Here is what I did, because I didn't like the way semi trailing susp changes camber, and the squat really drove me up the wall. I wouldn't suggest this unless you are completly nuts. If I was going drag racing I'd probably go to a solid rear end.
  14. Can some one tell me hoe to attach this air dam at the top, under the bumper without having the bolts show? Here is a photo of the dam thing. Thanks for any suggestions
  15. What John said. Stiff shocks will help, but it will still squat hard. IMO, this is because Z31 stock semi trailing arm suspension sucks.
  16. I wouldn't put my kid in a rally car, but I see a lot of young kids riding motocross bikes or four wheelers and nobody seems to uptight about that. Besides, as the old saying goes, "Its easier to make a new one than it is to repair the old one."
  17. I just finished reading the seat swap list and found a ton of seats that would look good in the Z31. There is one problem though, I need dimensions. T here isn't much room in the car and I gotta find seats that are no wider than 20" at the widest point. I can't really go to the local junk yards and measure. The selection here is abismal, but that's what I get for living here in the land that time forgot. Thanks, Joe
  18. Yeah, that's thwe company name I was trying to think of, but I'm really old and my mind is almost gone. Er, what was I saying????
  19. When we had a transmision shop we had a trichlorethelene vapor degreaser. It was the best thing I've ever used. Unfortunatly, trichlor is extremely carsonigenic. EverClean(?) has a program that uses a parts washer that sits on a tank when the solvent gets dirty, they come and replace it . I forget what it costs but it is really convienient. Has anyone thought about using an old dishwasher, and a tank of Simple Green?
  20. Oh god, now I've got to learn to navigate this new site. Just when I had almost mastered the walking and chewing gum thing.
  21. Years ago a guy I knew told me "Remember, life is just a series of adjustments" A short time later, he stole my motorcycle. I recalled his advice, and when I caught up with him, I adjusted him big time. The point is, that he was right, I haven't beat anyone with a roller chain in 30 years.
  22. .I thought the two inboard engines were pushers.
