  1. Some people just don't have a clue. Hopefully you'll meet him again after you get the LS1 swapped in. And if you're really lucky when you see this guy again, it'll be when he is sitting in the next land at a red light.
  2. I've searched the archives but can't find anything about molding in a urethane air dam. What kind of filler will work to mold the air dam to the facia, and the facia to the fenders and front of the hood. (The hood will be welded in for the front end to tilt) The dam is reinforced and has a belly pan as far back as the wheel wells. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanx Joe
  3. I have a th350 in my Z31. You should have enough room in the tunnel for either the 350 or the 700. That's the good news. When I put mine in I had to mod the firewall just a little to clear bell housing on the automatic. It is easy enough to dop with a four pound sledge and a little attitude. Here are some pictures of the firewall where I "altered" it. Like I said, it doesn't take much and will hardly show. I hope this helps. Good luck
  4. But at least the owner sounds honest about what it needs.
  5. Glad you came through OK. I lived in Sand Springs for a couple of years, and I know how it can get. It is one of my favorite parts of the country, but the weather can be really extreme.
  6. I ordered fourty feet of chrome moly tubing that had to be shipped from Georgia. When it arrived I called the only Fed Ex number in our phone book. that was the Kinko's store who told me I had to pick up my stuff at the Fed Ex at the air port. When I got to the airport I was told that I needed to go to Fed Ex freight which is about two miles away. I knext went to the freight yard and got the old "Will call is closed until Monday." So I went home and managed to waste the weekend getting nothing done because I needed the tubing. I get to will call early Monday and after checking my tracking number the lady there tells me that my tubing is across town at the Fed Ex ground terminal. I thank her and start towards the door with visions of actually getting some work done on the chassis. She says wait a minute and she'll call and make sure the package is there. She calls and gets no answer, so she calls someplace else and then tells me that the ground terminal is open Tuesday through Saturday. So I go home once more and sit thumb firmly inserted in my the lower digestive tract. By now I am starting to contemplate building my car useing discarded water pipe. Tuesday I get in the truck and drive to the Fed Ex ground terminal. When I get there, the lady in the office check the comnputor and says they don't have it, But she will check with the delivery office, and disappears into the warehouse. After about ten minutes she comes back in dragging my package. She then tells me that I could have picked it up on Friday because the home delivery people were there all day. The pipe wasn't delivered because somehow there was a will pick up hold on it. See? You don't have to work there to be made crazy.
  7. Too much JB and I can't roll anything that will stay lit.
  8. Ouch!! I thought you were more careful with your tool
  9. It looks like a jag to me too. Chrysler and Masaratti were connected if my memory is correct, and Chrysler used Dana 44s in some early Vipers. So my guess would be its a Dana the same as used in the XJ12. The price seems a little high though. My entire rear suspension was only $250.
  10. I have a home made set that I use on my truck. I'll try to take a pic when I go in to the shop. They are the only stands I would even think of using on the truck. Of course the Pete weighs about 18,000lbs.
  11. I've been thinking about putting the clutch off an air conditoner onto the pump? The clutch could be switched so you could have power when parking, but there'd be no power loss when the pump was disengaged. Just an idea, I don't know if it would work or not.
  12. Er, I suppose that means PVC pipe isn't up to spec?
  13. I've seen this thing before. I think it is the deffinition of fun. Here is one from around here.
  14. I have the complete suspension out of my '84 Z31. The front cross member has mounts welded on for a sbc, and the rear cross member will bolt up to a th350. The steering rack needs boots, but works fine. This is free to anyone who wants it! Just let me know, and come and get it. Otherwise its off to the salvage yard. The furniture dolly is not included, and you wouldn't want the lawn mower.
  15. Glad it wasn't any worse. I hope your arm isn't too bad. I did that once feding an engine from a coke bottle. The engine backfired and I threw the bottle of gas into a brush pile. Luckily there was no damage, but it scared the crap out of me
  16. After looking all over for material to fabricate my chassis, I came on this site: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/ Don't let the name fool you, these guys are really good. The service is top notch, and they sell amost anything you can think of. Not only that but their price for 4130 tubing was really low.
  17. Personally, I'd weld in steel. I thought of doing aluminium floors and firewall in my Z31, but decided against it. First, riveting in aluminium panels is extremely labor intensive especially if you expect any strength. Second, joining a ferrous and nonferrous metal can cause more problems than they are worth. Over time steel will react with aluminium and can cause the aluminium to corrode. Just my two cents.
  18. Here is a couple guys who did alright in make up: http://www.loujacobs.com/ http://www.emmettkellyjr.com/ Of course this guy is just like them only he doesn't know it.
  19. I have four of them in my garage just taking up floor space. Where are you in Cal? PM me if you want them.
  20. I've got the same problem, and have been wondering about the vacuum pump off a Z31 Turbo. Someone told me it's an electric unit that is mounted under the front of the car, but I don't have any clear info yet.
  21. I've searched every keyword I can think of and haven't found what I need. So here it is. What do turbo Zs use to supply vacuum for brake boosters and heater/ air conditioner controls? Is there an electric pump that kicks in when the manifold goes from negative to positave pressure?
  22. Great list. I could use a source for "common sense" my wife says I have none because I already have more tools than Harbor Freight, and keep on buying more. I would also add in the "nice to have but not critical" list: Horizontal band saw (power hack saw.) Bridgeport mill. (I'm surprised how often I've used mine)
