  1. Sorry it's not 100% clear to me. You want to trade your SDS for a stock R33 ECU, harness.... etc?
  2. Have you seen the 2008 Ford Taurus X? You gan get it AWD with all the options you liked about the Toyota for a little bit less. And I think before you say something like "no Fords" you should be open to all your options and take a moment to go to your local dealer and test drive it. The new V6 engine that it has is really nice. And I would rather drive that than a minivan. If when you drive it you like it let me know... I might even be able to get you a number so you get employee pricing

    Weathertrip Kit

Have you seen the kit sold by Black Dragon? I haven't bought one, but I've been happy with some other things I got from them. Here's a link: http://www.blackdragonauto.com/icatalog/z/0059.asp I was thinking that it might be exactly what the people at ebay are selling you for $50 more.
  4. Again the question of whether the RB or 2JZ are better... What you need to understand is that both are great engines, and both will easily get to 400whp. Both are expensive and will require about the same work to get them in a S30 chassis. Now a days if you really want you can get any parts for any engine anywhere. As far as I know the parts for both of these engines are expensive. And that's because they are high quality engines. What the question should be is to ask yourself which one you like better. Fall in love with one and swap that one in your car. You'll be happy with it.
  5. Keep both... concentrate on one. I don't know their condition, but you might be able to use one as a daily driver while you work on the other. Just my opinion
  6. Since it is for a 1600 I wouldn't be able to help. Just taking a guess I would think the RB26 would be either too big or too powerful... although everything's possible and there's no such thing as too powerful. I don't know if you could fit the VG, I've never seen the engine bay on a 1600 but the car seems too narrow for a VG. Do a comparison between the RB and SR20... big difference, but both can have more than enough power. As far as costs go... yeah the RB26 is less than 4k but you have other things such as: RWD Transmission (RB25 ~ $1,200) Motor mounts fabrication (?) Engine management system (1-2k) Intercooler, differential, driveshaft, radiator, exhasut (1-2k) All the custom piping (?) Changes in suspension? Brakes? Can the chassis handle that much power? Boost controller, gauges, turbo timer (?) And will you leave it completely stock? Just on turbos you can spend 2-4k. Are you messing with injectors? Cams? I know this is hard to see because "the engine is only this much"...... but I tell you because I didn't see it until I actually started spending the money.
  7. What car is it for? If money is an object and it is a S30 I would say go for a L28ET. With the RB26 expect to spend between 10-25k at least, depending on what hp numbers you're talking about. With the VG... I don't know. I have it in my Z32 and it is a good engine, but I think there's a lot of trouble getting the engine on a S30 (I think there's a post about someone making mounts for that and saying it wasn't that hard... but I don't know if that was ever completed.) And if you wanted some advice I would say you do need to research a lot more before you get into something. BTW... if money is an object... just forget about the AWD.
  8. Hahaha... the point was that even if I was to loose I felt better about having an RB in my car than winning with a V8. But I know I can make my RB faster than a V8! And realistic or not... well... in a year or two if I find a McLaren to race me I'll let you know what happens.
  9. J Taylor... I live in California and I'm almost getting airplane tickets to fly there already if the offer is for me too! I recommended that approach because it is what I used to choose the RB. I imagined myself winning with a bad ass V8 against a McLaren F1 and it was cool. Then I imagined myself loosing with an RB26 and it gave me goose bumps and a big smile and cheevers. So that's when the choice was clear... my 280z will have an RB!
  10. Here's how to decide: Since money is not a problem, you can make all these three engines to make enough power and win those races. Sooo.... 1. Close your eyes. 2. Imagine you won the race, so now you go get off your car and everyone wants to see under your hood. 3. Open your hood. 4. Repeat these steps for each engine. Choose the engine that gives you goose bumps. If more than one does this, choose the one that gives you the most. If none of them does that, you need to read about them and research them a lot more!
  11. Has any of these turbos been tried on the car to see how they perform?
  12. Hahahaha! Once I did some similar calculations and figured that you save more in the payment by buying the regular basic car than what you save on gas buying the hybrid. And about keeping the car for ten years or so... well... I sell cars and trust me... the probabilities are really low. And to battlemac... think about what exactly is it that you want and need. And always keep in mind that there are a lot more costs to a swap than just the engine and transmission. I think you are just confused (I have been in the same situation). So just accept that you can't always get everything... and start thinking hard.
  13. Hey Stony... not what you are looking for but I have an RB25 oil pan and I think the stock RB26 pickup if you need it. What are you doing with your rear sump settup? If you are selling the pickup and/or pan let me know... Thanks.
  14. I would say take an extra month or two as you said and go for the RB25 at least. A lot stronger transmission... and you will probably spend about the same or more to stroke your RB20 than to just buy an RB25. Just my opinion...
  15. You can buy a front spoiler for a 240z from Blackdragonauto.com. (Don't get it for 280... get for 240). They also have the lights (just the plastic)... the only thing you need to get from a 240z are the alumminum gaskets so you can put 'em on. Connect the wiring from the old ones to the new ones ans you're good to go.
  16. Damn... Always getting something better... Good job! You keep on putting in my head the idea of swapping an RB26 in my 300ZXTT after I'm done with my 280Z.
  17. It seems like enough options that meet what you were looking for have been given. I have basicly seen this same thread done by different people in different places quite a few times. The thing is that if you want to be 100% legal then just leave the L24 stock. But you want more horses... so you have to take a chance. What's the difference between the swap being legal or illegal if your car is smog exempt and will never be checked? I've never heard of a cop opening a hood just because he felt like doing it. They might check if they caught you racing... in which case you will get in trouble even if you had the stock L24. So just choose the engine you like better... and start the swap. Oh and BTW... it'll take you quite some time of good gas mileage to make up for the cost of the swap.
  18. Look for one with an L28ET or a V8 in it then. Just an RB with all the necessary things can be worth more than that. And if someone happens to have one in that price range... I'm not looking for one... but I'll take it!
  19. The Tomei would be your best choice if you had $12,000 just for the engine and another $10,000-20,000 for the rest (just the turbos can be $2,000-3,000, tranny $1,200). If $12,000 is your total budget for the swap, I would recommend not spending more than $5,000 for an engine and transmission in good shape and keeping it almost completely stock. You need to do a lot of research before you buy the engine. It won't be really hard to get the horsepower you want. As I joke with my friend, just by blowing the dust off an RB26 it gets another 50hp .
  20. I know they are nice little cars that are fast and can be fixed to go a lot faster. But presonally not the right car for me. I'll rather take an ugly Z (beautiful in my eyes), RWD, with and RB26 in it and no A/C. And forget about C6 vettes... lets go for the Z06s and 911 Turbos .
  21. Great deal! I got a 78 280z, running, with little rust, easyly repairable, for $1,300. But if I had an SRT-4 I would had traded it for the Z
  22. Nemesis, if you want something reliable at 500hp (or a lot more), don't care about the money spent, and want something that the neighbor won't have in his project or in his yunk-worth lincoln, I would recommend you check with the guys next door in the RB Forums. Research on the RB26DETT. That's if you don't have your heart set on a Ford V8 of course.
  23. Seems like it is not a reflashable version, but instead ready to use, with fuel maps and things like that. And it is called Tomei ECU. What I'm not sure is if it will have tuning for higher octane rating (live in California and would like to keep it at 91). Here are links to it, maybe you can read them and let me know what you think. http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003web-catalogue/efr_set-from_top-menu/efr_index-reytec.html http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003web-catalogue/efr_set-from_top-menu/efr_index-reytec.html
