  1. crap. well since the thread has gone off topic anyhow, thanks for that link.. It is AMAZING the number of things I have yet to think to look up on YouTube. why, it was only the other day that I finally got around to looking up old episodes of Red Dwarf!!! I have heard tapes of either this TV series, or the radio series, or one of the commercial audio releases... and also have MP3s of a DIFFERENT set of the above (tapes of one, MP3s of another) but I have never actually SEEN anything but the recent movie. THANKS! (and, sorry for the thread jack!!)
  2. any chance you could just cutt off the bolted on flanges and use some parts store exhaust pipe couplers to hack the thing together, just to get you home? I am throwing "ideal" to the wind here and trying to brainstorm ideas to help get you and your car home; a "real" exhaust system would need to be built after that. If you can hack together something good enough to tide you over for a while by having the exhaust shop match them up, then great.. but I wouldn't pay them too much to put something together that will need to be replaced rather soon anyhow, you know? Better to do the hack job yourself for cheaper, if replacement will be needed soon in any case. I have known multiple vehicles whose exhaust systems were patched/held together with soup cans and muffler clamps; it works surprisingly well.
  3. how bad is the mismatch between round header and square exhaust port??? I know plenty of people have run the Square header on Round exhaust port heads without difficulty.. Does it LOOK like it covers the holes fairly well? I mean, it might be FAR from ideal, but if it looks like it covers fully then it should WORK at least...
  4. I was making "tim allen" noises the whole time I scrolled through the photos. Superb. cannot WAIT to hear this demon, this "RB in L's Clothing"
  5. You were right, I was quoting a book; the Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Actually, one of the sequels. It's where my user avatar comes from. It was a nerd joke, purposefully obscure and I was hoping to draw someone out on commenting on it. Pardon the confusion. It came up in the book exactly like this, one character made a reference to "eddies in the space time continuum" that they could ride out of prehistoric earth, two million years into the future and back to their own time. The other character was confused, and asked who eddy was and what he was doing in the space time continuum.
  6. yah, well, I wanted to complement the poster of the method and subscribe in one effort.
  7. Oh.. Oh my, I hadn't intended that!!! just goes to show you.. NEVER give cooking advice on a car forum
  8. your air gun can use any of the above solutions/degreasers, as well as water. Rubbing Alcohol is an excellent drying agent, for use after you rinse it off. Just spray it down and let it sit in the sun for a bit; an hour should be MORE than ample. Nothing will work as well as hot tanking it, though.
  9. I hate to break your balls here, chuck, but i cant think of any two Z-car models so close to each other chronologically that are MORE different than 280ZX:Z31..... I doubt HIGHLY that it would fit, but my car is not accessible to measure. Look here in this sub forum, on the first page, for a post by a user named Jintu; he just recently shoehorned an L28 into a Nissan Pickup. If anyone could help you, he could.
  10. I do not care if I live to be 120 years old and see the day where all automobiles left are powered by Mr. Fusion.. that image will ALWAYS mean "horsepower" to me. A thing of beauty is a Joy, Forever.
  11. is there a rule about posting superfluous questions in a sticky? Mods, feel free to delete this post.
  12. Try sifting your flour a bit more, and using hotter water when you make your pizza dough... To get the crust nice and round, the best way is to take the ball of dough in your hands, stretch it sideways a bit, and roll either side forwards, folding the sides into the middle; then rotate the dough ball 90 degrees like a steering wheel, and repeat, then roll it 90 degrees like a turntable, then repeat the entire process several times. Then you flatten the ball, and slap it back and forth between your fingertips gently; its easiest to practice this motion with a rag, and the dough is MUCH more forgiving in this state if it is good and cold. 13. My parents have an 87 E150 van with a 351 Windsor HO that is in GREAT shape, fairly low miles, that we are FINALLY getting rid of I THINK.... interested? It would need to be towed, IIRC the biggest thing that kept us from getting it going was bad gas tanks.... Original owners, second engine. PM me if youre interested.
  14. The only comment I have to make is this: Do you find the rust intimidating?? if I were to find that car in my neighborhood, for $800 US, with a selection of body panels, I would consider it a good buy. The market for these cars varies WILDLY here within the states, and here in extreme South Florida ANY s30 for under $1000 is hard to beat (at least it seems like that sometimes.) I WILL agree that a firsthand inspection should yield you a final answer, but I would say "go for it."
  15. I wouldn't either.... but my point was that, if he is planning on a V8 swap, spending good money on this motor is likely an exercise in polishing a turd. Apparently the L-series potential is not enough for him (or is too difficult to reach his desired power goal) SO; I made my metaphor. Personally, I think that an RB is the only appropriate engine to swap in; I LOVE the L-series, to a point where it is "un-Hybrid-like" of me
  16. ugly side or no, that is a great photograph. The little X on the bottom corner of the car REALLY completes it..
  17. the differential swap will make a big difference in acceleration; if you still want more oompah, then I would suggest a mild cam and possibly re jetting the carburetors.... but to play games like this is to get into tuning, and from what I have read thus far tweaking your L26 is going to be an exercise in polishing a turd for you. I couldn't disagree more; me no likey american V8, me likey Nissan OHC.. BUT, what I am saying is, you *could* get a cam and get some good advice from the cam grinder (or various internet forums, just not from me, I dunno carbs that well) on what kind of carb jetting to run with the cam.. or you could save the money you would spend on this, because you won't be getting much of it (if any) back. However, if you DO decide to go with a camshaft, then your carburetors will quite likely wish to be re jetted. In fact, it is possible that a simple re-jet could yield the results you seek by itself; but I am making a stab in the dark when I say this, I have no idea what jets are in your carbs now and I have no idea what would be best suited. I know theory when it comes to carburetors, but I have zero experience.
  18. I have to say I fully fully agree with this statement. The statement immediately following I couldnt DISagree with more!!!! Man, I take back what I ahve said from just pictures! I can never REALLY tell if I like a vehicle from a photo, I thought I HATED the latest redesign of the mustangs until I first saw one.. I was pulling up to a red light, maybe 200 yards out, and the new 'stang rolled from left to right in front of me at 50 MPH but I instantly knew what it was, and my mind was instantly changed.. Same goes for the cobraZ.. as soon as I saw that thing spin around, I thought "hey I was wrong! AWESOME!" My next thought was "what is under the hood again?" and then I expanded the "info" on youtube.. High Comp L???? :hail::hail:
  19. My uncle's solution on his roadster racer was to simply fab a sheetmetal base plate that attached to the carbs underneath the velocity stacks, like the base plate of the CF unit above, get an oval shaped filter tall enough to cover the stacks, and fab a solid sheetmetal top plate. The two plates were simply held together with carriage bolts and wingnuts; but more inventive types of clipping etc could be done.. and if enough care were taken in fabbing the two plates, it could look plenty clean. You could even get some sort of "quick-n-dirty" clips to clamp the plates together, and have a pair (or more) of security screws that run through the affair hold it together safely.. IE, when installing the fliter, set it all together, clip it. The clips hold in loosely in place enough to free your hands to install the two bolts that REALLY hold it together. my .02
  20. sounds like possibly a TPS issue?? Find the thorttle position sensor. With the car running, wiggle the heck out of the wiring for the thing, and tap it... listen to hear for any changes. A shot in the dark, but I figured I would take the swag anyhow.
  21. I wouldn't call it bad form, since you didnt badmouth them outright; you spake naught but the truth. I am glad that an ambiguous answer made it onto this thread
  22. Awesomeness on a Stick!!! Thanks for the photos, if you ask me those pics alone qualify this thread for sticky status, but I am trying to stockpile as many head images as possible to try to a comprehensive photo essay as a companion for the great links we have for the text write ups on the various heads. Once I compile enough high quality pictures (I am striving to save each photo in a folder with the original poster's name attached) it will be posted as a thread here.
  23. just goes to show you.. when life hands you lemons, swap in an RB.
