  1. I am dubious about this. Where does the heat go? I think that any heat that the fuel takes on as it evaporates goes down into the combustion chamber.
  2. 240z w/V8 2500lbs/370hp=6.76 2002 Z06 Corvette 3117lbs/405hp=7.70 I think 370hp would make for more than a mild Z. When people talk about mild they are usually talking about GM stock-replacement motors and junkyard motors (probably excluding the LS1.) 225-300hp.
  3. It was a 4L 195hp V8. Gross hp I expect. btw, I think that minivan improved your Z's aerodynamics more than Nissan ever did in a wind tunnel.
  4. It is better to throw away an ocean of coffee than install cupholders in a 240z.
  5. You mean 16,000 rpms, don't you? Are your guys arguing about the idle speed?

    3000gt?

I don't think so, and I think it would be pretty tough to do. The engine is mounted transverse in a VERY wide engine bay. That swap would be a 9.5/10 on the scale of difficulty. I think if people were doing it, or even seriously thinking about doing it, there would be a forum about it on this site.
  8. Why don't you just tell your mom to show the inspector some leg? Sorry.
  9. Jeromio has it exactly right. You seem to be glad to criticize us, but you have yet to contribute anything substantive to the conversation. There are a couple of us sitting here with these cages waiting to be installed. We have explained what our goals are. Tell us what you think we should do. I don't really care about looking like I'm going racing, I care about peace of mind.
  10. I won't be racing. I'm concerned about getting slammed into while rolling through an intersection. I plan to drive the car daily in southern California (which can be dangerous,) and my 71 was not built to modern crash standards. I think most of the guys here are in the same boat, so your line of questioning is inappropriate.
  11. Can I hijack this thread for a second? I have the S&W cage and my 71 doesn't have those pockets. Does anyone have any pics of how they mounted the hoop in the earlier cars?
  12. Puma's can get up to 220lbs though.
  13. I had the same problem with a rebuilt pump for a VG30E. It didn't let go quite as badly as yours, but it wasn't pretty. I wish I could remember the name of the manufacturer! It only lasted 90 days.
  14. I opened this post thinking "Tyler vents" were something like NACA ducts. That's what I get for sitting in front of a computer on a Friday night (because my car ain't running either.)

    NASCAR

You may find some things on the internet offensive. If you can't deal with it then you need to put down the mouse. Despite it's decieving subject, this thread is not for Nascar fans. PLEASE BACK AWAY SLOWLY! BTW, baseball is boring too!
  16. They had mobile stations like this, but they recently determined that they were not cost effective in terms of smog reduction per dollar. It is, however, cost effective to force people to replace their older cars because those costs are not incurred against the state. GOOD BUREAUCRAT LOGIC!
  17. I would like it if they would at least exempt older vehicle from the visual inspection. Most "stock" 240z's have had many of their emissions system modified/removed (some more than others ), however they might be able to pass the tailpipe test anyhow. BTW, I'm pretty sure they are only talking about scrapping the 30-year rule. I didn't realize that until I read the PDF and they had bolded the heading: "Exempt pre-1974 Vehicle Only" Obviously they are arguing to eliminate all exemptions and I sure that's the next step: I can't wait to see Jay Leno's Deusenberg on a smog-dyno.
  18. I'm certainly glad you feel that way, Ross, especially since I ordered your rear brake package ,but I really have to wonder how these guys got so rich yet remained so naive. Do they have so much money that they don't even care? I wouldn't trust the guy simply because they wrote about him in Car and Driver, in fact I would trust him less. Anyhow, if Hennessey had actually delivered a 1000hp Viper, I would bet even money that it would have ended up wrecked within a year.
  19. I'm 6'3 too. The Z has the plenty of legroom, I can back the seat up until I can't even touch the firewall. I seem to recall a thread like this in the past, and almost a majority of the members were 6-footers. I think maybe the Japanese thought Americans were a race of giants back in the late 60s and designed for an average height of 6'0.
  20. Do titanium valves have to have sodium in them? The thermal conductivity of Ti is a little lower than SS, but I would think in an N/A watercooled engine you shouldn't need to worry about that. You certainly don't have to worry about the Ti melting If I wanted to build a high-rpm motor I would definately go for them. Seems like they are great for a race engine and proven in street engines. Almost no down$ide.
  21. NO, acetone is a solvent to many types of plastic. The bottles it comes in are LDPE and specially made to be chemical resistant. Most plastics will dissolve very quickly in it. You could try a milder solvent, I think turpentine is safe on plastic.
  22. My understanding of the law (regulation rather) was in line with what you said. The safest is bet is to swap in an LT1/LS1. If you want, you can get it inspected and approved. I say "if you want" because I don't know what chance they would have of catching you if you didn't. BTW, I don't think you have keep the catalysts if your car didn't come with them. Other than that you have to use a stock engine from a newer car with all emissions equip intact.
