  1. Adding backpressure. The last thread on this issue, although the focus was on the idea that you could reduce noise at cruising/idle rpms without reducing performance.
  2. I'm swapping an LT1 into my 71 and I'm going with a 3.9 R200 with std. half shafts. The main concern for durability is u-joints, the diff itself should be ok unless you like to do long pegleg burnouts. Since you have a ZX it should be easier to swap to the cv-joint setup, look into that if you still have concerns. The LSD is the next step after that.
  3. Al pistons are alloyed with copper, zinc, and silicon to withstand the temp. Unfortunately the alloys used are very susceptible to corrosion, especially when welded. If you could cast your entire exhaust out of the stuff, that might work
  4. Those people raised your fiancée. I promise you, you are going to find that the girl is just like her mother. Two faced. Maybe you can live with the other head, but maybe the other head will tell you "no more Z car." What will you do then? It's time for you to give their little girl a test too. It isn't true false, multiple choice, or anything else you've heard of. You don't need your parents to help administer it, you need a lawyer. The test is called a prenuptial agreement, all she has to do is sign. Otherwise, I'm sure she knows where the door is. Edit: Same advice applies to real marriages.
  5. Do you consider Syntec to be a synthetic oil?
  6. Come on guys, you have to acknowledge that both imports and domestics have good things going for them. If only you could combine the properties of the two...
  7. Clearly this auction is bogus, because they claim the sand came from the trunks of the police cars. As any DoH fan can tell you, the police cars tipped over EVERY time they jumped, even when going over a jump just completed successfully by the general lee. This indicates a lack of sand in the trunk of any genuine car, thusly the sand is not Dukes of Hazard sand, but rather common beach sand. BEACH SAND!
  8. I think the oil temp can also trigger the electric fans, but thats about it. If your not using them, then I'd forget about it.
  9. It seems to me that using a pulley without a lip to do an 80 deg. turn wouldn't be good, although chevy did even more with the ps pump. Anyhow, I think I'm going to use an idler pulley from McMaster-Carr (6235K74 if anyone is interested.)
  10. Hey, I owe you a beer now I'll definately go to your next gathering (do you post them on here?) and if your in the area some time I'll buy you lunch. I work in Irvine. Thanks again.
  11. That's great! I never thought about modifying the PS pump like that. Please post the part number for the belt. I'd also like to see some pics, but I have a good idea what you are talking about. Thanks.
  12. It got me excited! Please post more info when you have the time, especially regarding belt routing.
  13. Here is a link to the last time this was discussed. Read through it and post any further questions there, rather than making a new thread. You can find old topics like this using the search function. Linkie
  14. I thought that was a good question, so I looked up this article: In the Navy.
  15. "I'm sorry but I can not see an issue with your internet connection, and we do not Guaranteed Upstream Bandwidth." but... "You will get a max upload of 256 Kbps, we do not guarantee the upload, you will get anything up to a max of 256 Kbps." So really they guarantee that the service will be at least this slow. Possibly much slower! I suggest you get a job at the University of California like me. My only problem is finding servers that don't cap their internet connection.
  16. Nissan is using a "variable capacity muffler" in some of their cars.
  17. The patent was filed March 27, 1995. Hopefully you can read it here /snip/ Ok, it barfed over the super long url. Do a search for patent# 5,552,761 here. Man, I'm bored.
  18. http://www.sureshifter.com/ It looks pretty similiar to Tim240z's idea (you violated their patent btw, lol) I was hoping to hijack the T56's CAGS system, but as it turns out the ecu guesses the gear selected based on mph and rpm.
  19. Hopefully he covered his urethra in JB Weld too, then he would qualify.
  20. I feel like I've fallen into a "nuh-uh" contest.
  21. That test proves that there is plenty of time for the fuel to vaporize before it is sucked into the combustion chamber. It happens in several ms in a pressurized direct injection environment!
  22. I don't think that is true. http://naca.larc.nasa.gov/reports/1933/naca-report-435/ I also can't see how cooling the intake manifold does anything but take heat out of the manifold, and put it in to the intake charge.
