  1. Mexican for New South Wales? Never heard that one, haha.
  2. Man, TVR always did (does? I'm never sure if they're in business)interesting things with their cars. Between that exhaust and the one below, they're nothing else if not original. Also I would LOOOVE to put one of their speed 6 engines in a Z. That would be my ideal setup. 440hp, NA, streetable, straight 6 revving to 8k? Yes, please. But, back to the original topic that is certainly an interesting paintjob. I'd imagine alot of creative things could be done with the liquid metal base. I'd like to see a very dark red tint for something a tad more subtle if that's possible.
  3. It'll probably be a couple of weeks before I can cut out the tower for you, if you can wait.
  4. 1998 is the last year of the R33.
  5. There's no need for another write up really. The process is the same, the only difference is what insert you use. You just have to find KYB inserts that are shorter than stock. I'd imagine they, just like Tokico, make one for the rear of the MR2 that you could use for the front, then use your KYB front struts in the rear of your Z. I'd measure directly how much length to take out of the housing.
  6. I've got two 5 speeds and a spare set of pedals, shipping a tranny is bound to be pretty pricey though.
  7. This is why I'm holding on to my Miata forever. I foresee that the Miata will be the S30 of the next decade or so. ~20 year old, lightweight, handling oriented platform still revered with various V8's being swapped in...sounds familiar.
  8. Or an LS1 as a slightly more difficult swap. There's a kit though. I love my Miata, best $1400 I ever spent.
  9. I might be able to do this for you in the next couple of weeks. I have an old shell that I'll be cutting up soon. If you could mark up a photo with cut lines I could do it accurately for you.
  10. Nice bike. I hear you on the ergo issue too. I loved the somewhat upright position on my SV650 (which I bought because of suggestions from members here by the way). Then I did a GSXR front end swap and all that went out the window I would love to do a trackday this season. I still need a proper pair of armored pants though.
  11. I recently had a similar experience. What I ended up doing was coating the inside of the frame rails (except near the welds) with POR-15, then spraying the 'tabs' of the frame rails with weld-thru primer, as well as spraying the area of the floor I had wire-wheeled the undercoating off of. Once I discovered how annoying it was to actually weld through I basically did the same thing as Tony. I took a good rag and wiped most of the primer off of the floor where I was going to weld. Basically anything I could get at with undercoating later was wiped off and the inner surfaces that I couldn't still had the primer on it. Also, switching to high heat on a better welder helped. I have some pics here if you're curious. http://southbronxspeedshop.blogspot.com/2011/11/112911-frame-rails-pt1.html http://southbronxspeedshop.blogspot.com/2011/12/122111-plugging-along.html http://southbronxspeedshop.blogspot.com/2011/12/122711-frame-rails-pt2.html
  12. Yeah, for around that money you could get full CF parts (as opposed to 1 CF layer on a fiberglass part which I assume that hood is, since most are) from JohnC and know you're getting quality. http://www.betamotorsports.com/products/products.php?cat=4
  13. I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for but way back in the day a member here did an entire C4 IRS swap. http://www.scottiegnz.com/corvette_irs_swap.html [edit] Looking at the site, the 'update' was posted 10 years ago, and I remember reading it when it was posted. I guess I've been at this a while...
  14. You know you own a Datsun when your feet get wet when it rains. You know you own a Datsun when your girl can tell when you've driven it because you smell like exhaust.
  15. I bought #1905, and my reasoning had very little to do with the vin. I bought it because it was a rust free car in the northeast with a crack free dash. Yep, unless it happens to be a 100% original car, there isn't much additional value for the low vin. Build it the way you want it.
  16. I think the main difference is that, unlike airbags, the lifting mechanism doesn't provide the main spring component of the suspension. Like others have said, it seems to be for raising a lowered car for speed humps, etc.
  17. Undercoated the rails. and POR-15'd the control arms and the floorboards.
  18. Along the same lines, I'm going to be buying brakes pretty soon. I was wondering if the Silvermine 11.8" (cobra?) rear kit would be a reasonable match for the 12", 4 piston AZC Wilwoods up front. I'd like to retain a parking brake without installing a second caliper in the rear.
  19. The frame rails are in! It took a while because I had a busy holiday season. but they're finally in. First I prepped them for the POR-15 with Marine Clean then Prep and Ready Then I painted the non-welded sections on the inside with POR-15 Then I sprayed the areas that would be welded near with a weld-through primer. Put them in place. Tacked them up And, after some trouble with welder #1 and switching to the spare I welded them in. If the welds look ugly, thats my reason, and I'm sticking to it! Done for the day. Going back tomorrow to clean up some of the ugliest welds then spray it with undercoating.
  20. Here ya go Joe. The video is a bit painful to watch, and some of the fab work looks iffy, but it's an AWD rb26dett G35 Can't wait to see your car quikz!
  21. It's great having a mill and a lathe. I got my atlas lathe home by removing it from the stand as well. I ended up not using the stand anyway. I picked up an older Duro benchtop mill which breaks down into enough small pieces to get in the back of my Mom's ford focus pretty easily. What it lacks in travel it makes up for in sturdiness. Sometimes it's hard to beat the old cast iron rigs.
  22. You're absolutely right, Tony. I'm writing him a thank you letter as we speak. He is an awesome human being. He had no reason to do this for a stranger other than "Love cars, love people, love life!" Return post was paid. Amy set it up so all he had to do was peel the first label off and put it back in the mail.
  23. turbeau I bought the same coilovers around 2004 back when they first appeared on ebay. The spring rates are far to high and the springs themselves are a bit on the short side, though mine came with helper springs. Those spring rates overwhelm most stock-ish struts. I kept them because I'm stubborn, but now I plan on keeping the sleeves and ordering some new 10" 200/225 springs from Summit along with some illuminas now that I'm going back over my suspension.
  24. Yeah, though her events aren't so bad. I spent last Monday night at a sorority formal. Out of college for 3 years and I'm still livin' the dream, haha.
