Yeah, I wouldnt. I used one when I bought the bike, but that was only 20 miles or so.

I think your right, and thank's everyone for all the advice. I think I'll get the GS running well, ride it for a year or two and then get the bike I want later. Now I just have to figure out how to get the thing from Princeton NJ down to VA without spending a fortune. At this point, unless I make a friend in the next couple of days who has a pickup, my only option is to rent a u-haul at a around 250 bucks before gas. Anyone in the NJ-VA area want to lend me a pickup? haha

Wow, I didn't realize I joined so close to the creation of hbz. Kinda makes me feel like an OG.

Well I am about sold on the SV650. I think I'll try to find a post 2003 fuel injected one. I think ideally I would get a SVZ650s and take the front fairing off of it and put a round light on. I like the square tube frame on the 's' and I would love a bike that looks like this The only trouble seens to be that these aren't the most common bikes in the world, and finding one with low miles and for the right price reasonably locally might be tough. Thanks for the help guys.

Ok guys I am looking to get into motorcycles and I want some advice as to what direction to go in. I had my jersey motorcycle permit, but have since moved to VA and have to go through the process again. I currently own (but haven't registered) an 82 gs750 that I got for pennies. It runs, or ran about 6 months ago when I parked it, but it has a charging issue and may need the carbs tuned. It is also 240 miles from where I currently live. It is a bit heavy but a reasonably good bike. I am not sure whether it is worth putting too much money into, as it isn't what I ultimately want, but could be a good learning bike. I think the sort of bike I am looking for is a naked bike that looks good, possibly modified to have a somewhat more aggressive riding position. I am thinking just a bit closer to that of a sport bike than most come with as standard. I have been toying with the idea of buying a ducati monster in the 600-700cc range. I love the style and they seem like they wouldn't be so fast that I would immediately kill myself. My only worry with the small monsters is that they are just that...small. I am 6'2'' 190lbs and am worried about it being too small for me. I am also wondering whether buying one new for ~ 9k, or picking one up used for 4-6k would be the best idea. I know bikes require quite a bit more maintenance than cars, but I don't really have any long term bike ownership experience. I am open to other naked bike (and some sport bike) selections like the triumph triple etc. What are your suggestions? Thanks guys.

christ, thats loud. I wouldnt put that on my G-coupe, but it would be fun on a vq powered Z weekend car.

I was in your position a few months ago, I ended up with an 04 G35 coupe for 16k and love it.

WOW, Clive. The car is looking amazing. I'm living down in DC now so its been hard to get up for the meets, but now that some money is coming in, I am gonna be looking to build a Z pretty soon. I can't build it down here as I don't have a garage so I might be following your lead and relying upon the help of fellow NY area Z'ers to get her done.
-
Hey guys, long time no see. I know I've been a bit of a ghost, and despite the fact that I'm moving to DC I will be keeping in better touch now. I will soon stop being a broke college student and have some money to put into the Z. I'll try to show up to the sept 12th event in the G.
-
I realized that I never showed you guys what I ended up getting. I figured that for the sort of money I was looking at, I would end up with a relatively high mileage m3, and that I didn't want a 330. I chickened out and went Nissan. Here is my new daily.
-
If I had the time I would definitely be going that route. At this point, however, I am looking for a daily driver for work, which I start pretty soon. I have to deal with moving from jersey to DC and getting an apartment and everything. I already have a project in my Z and I am pretty much looking for something that i might only do minor work on, at least for the short term. I am looking for fun and reasonably reliable. My workable price limit is 18-19k.

Sorry to jack the thread a bit but I have a question. I was originally intending to get an e46 m3, but it has become apparent that I would only realistically be able to afford one with close to 100k miles. As such I am a little worried about maintenance costs and how long I can expect the car to be reliable. Another option for a car would be an 04-06 GTO. I figure its similar in that it seats four, has a trunk, is rwd and pretty quick. It doesn't have the badge, but its supposed to handle pretty well and I figure it has to be reasonably reliable with the LS engine in it. If anything, parts will be cheap. The main benefit is that I could get an 04 with 20k miles on it for 14-15grand, or an 05 (400hp) for 17 grand with 40k. What do you guys think.

Monkey, I am currently in the process of finding an early e46 M3. How do you like yours, how has maintenance and reliability been for you. Is there anything I should look out for. Thanks

I have a 1991 miata, bought it for $1300 with 92k on it. It is a perfect daily driver. I don't have a hardtop but I would probably want one in the long term, as the soft top isn't the best in weather. I love the car though

So my girlfriend and I had to run some errands last night. I wasn't feeling too well so we took her car, a 2002 Mustang GT Convertible, black on tan with the bullitt wheels and flowmasters. As we're pulling in to the Best Buy parking lot, we see an 09 GT convertible, Yellow with black stripes, a body kit, big chrome wheels, a funny vented hood... the works. He parks diagonally and takes up four spots in the parking lot. We laugh and do our shopping. As we're leaving we see that he happens to be leaving at the same time. We get to a light where both lanes can turn left, and we are both going left. We are on the inside and he is on the outside lane. We see him next to us and we both say, 'he's gonna try to race us'. Now my girlfriend isn't the streetracing kinda girl, we aren't having any of it. The light changes and sure enough, he takes off. Towards the end of the turn, he starts to oversteer, and then over corrects and hits the brakes a bit, sending him off the road to the right crashing into a high curb and significantly damaging his car, at least the bumper, fender and right wheel/tire, and likely the suspension. As we drive by, I roll down my window and laugh. Moral of the story, don't race on the street and no matter how well you take care of your car when its parked, if you drive like an ass, you'll mess it up anyway.

I hate to hijack the thread but how are you liking the M3. I am very seriously considering getting one. I was just wondering if you had any pros - cons. How have parts and maintenance prices been treating you? If you dont wanna hijack the thread PM me. Thanks alot.

The yellow hose connects to a little boat with the pump in it.

reminds me of the movie Trading Places

well luckily I don't have any school loans, princeton is really good with financial aid so I'm square. I realize the 370 was a bit of a pipe dream, but most of the other options could be had under 20k. Considering i'm gonna be commuting quite a bit and want a nice place to be when I'm doing it, i think that is pretty reasonable.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. As far as a bigger car than an m3, if I need to move things I can borrow the parents car, as I won't be that far away. The Z is a good man toy, but its gonna require a ton of downtime to become respectable. I am not planning on having kids any time soon and so I figure this is one of two times I'm gonna be able to have an impractical car. From now until kids, and then when im making enough money to have kids and a silly car. I want to take advantage of this time while I have it. I mean at this point im alternating between the Z and a miata so I'm already good at packing efficiently I like the S4 suggestion as well. I will look into them. I also like the idea of de-winging an evo or sti. Thanks for the help guys.

Hey guys, Right now I am halfway through my senior year of college and I have a good job lined up. As much as I love my Z, I can't show up to work in an unmuffled car and smell like exhaust when i get there so I will need to get a car for this job. I am trying to decide between a few cars now. I would appreciate any input on these cars and any suggestions for new ones. My basic requirements are RWD/AWD, somewhat powerful, good looking, unique if possible. In the 30-35k range if new or under 25 if used. Right now I'm looking these. 370z Great looking car but to get it equipped the way i want it would be 40k g35 coupe relatively inexpensive now but you see them all the time gto not too common, very fast, but not the best looking things in the world early nsx I know, kind of a stupid idea but they're in the range and tempting e46 m3 surprisingly in the range. Great cars e39 m5 also surprisingly in the range. a little big for my taste now though supra in the range, barely, considering their age rx7 great but sort of wary of the rotary stuff on a dd z32 twin turbo good looking but a bit dated now evo/sti good performance but a bit boy racer for a dd Thanks Guys

My dad had one, his battery was in his trunk. Easy to replace. I agree on that starter though.

I'll do that if i have to but I would really prefer to have the stock system, I also like the idea of the in dash hard drive music system. I don't really want a garmin stuck on my windshield.
