  1. I've experienced both sides of the coin more than once - restored a project car myself and bought someone else's completed project for less than half of what they had in it. There's merit to both ways and it all depends on how you like to spend your time and money. If you're handy with tools and have the work space, live the dream and restore a car. Just don't plan on driving it and basking in the glory of appreciative bystanders for a while, perhaps a long while. On the other hand, if you want to drive the car anytime soon, buy one that someone else has completed as I did with my Porsche - bought it, washed it, entered it in a national show, and won 1st place. Can't put a dollar value on that warm fuzzy feeling. A year ago, I pulled the '71 Z that I bought new off the showroom floor out of 15 years of storage. It took about a month to pour more money into it than it cost when new. My son and I are still working on the body work and interior as he prepares to get his driver's license. Can't put a dollar value on that feeling either. Dennis
  2. So, just so I know in case Vin ever drops by the neighborhood and sits on my Z, what's the going rate for his butt print? Dennis 1971 240Z Original Owner
  3. I have a '71 240Z. Will rear louvers from later models (260, 280) fit in case I come across a set on a junkyard or pick-a-part journey? Dennis 1971 240Z Original Owner
  4. Be sure to let us know about how well the pieces fit when you get it installed. Dennis 1971 240Z Original Owner
  5. I suppose "cool" is in the eye of the beholder, but here's a list from my neighborhood: The neighbor across the street has a 55 Chevrolet, a 57 Chevrolet, and a BMW Z8. My garage holds a 63 Studebaker Avanti and a 70 Porsche 914-6 There's a Rolls in the driveway and a Testa Rosa Corvette kit car in the garage at the house on the corner An El Camino is a few doors down. The usual mix of Jags and Mercedes old & new round out the rest of my block. Just a typical SoCal neighborhood, I guess. Dennis 1971 240Z Original Owner
  6. That clean dash looks a little dash capish to me. Unless you really, really, really like projects and puzzles, I'd keep looking. Dennis 1971 240Z Original Owner

  8. Looking at the pictures, it appears that the seats, wheels and bumpers alone are worth the price of admission - nice find! Dennis
  9. I have a feeling that no one should get too attached to this show. I can't see it going too many episodes before getting yanked off the air.
  10. So, when the blue bar gets all the way over to the right, is it "Game Over"?
  11. Sometimes, there's a little adjustment needed to get the best fit. The rubber edge seal can cover many over-adjustments. In the "old" days when I bought my '71 Z, the available covers didn't have the edge seal and required drilling slots in the headlight pods to insert and epoxy the metal mounting hardware. The covers, themselves had to be ground down a bit to closely fit the contours of the pods. The process has gotten much easier. Dennis 1971 240Z Original Owner
  12. I'm sure he'll ship there....just seems to be less than fond of some of Mexico's exports.
  13. You might want to start with this link - prices are reasonable: http://www.tabcobodyparts.com/html/table_of_contents.htm Dennis 1971 240Z Original Owner
  14. What does a locksmith charge to re-key a car? Can't be much more than $190. When I pulled my '71 Z out of a 15 year storage nap a last year, I couldn't find the key but still had the key code on the original sales paperwork as well as on a slip on the glovebox door. Don't ask me why I left it on the glovebox door. It cost about $30 to have a new key cut from code at a local locksmith's shop.
  15. ArnZ, Thanks for the hardware pictures and measurements - perfect. Dennis 1971 240Z - Original Owner
  16. ArnZ, Any chance you could measure one of the headlight cover mounting plates that attach to the headlight bucket for me (length, width, thickness)? I have a set of covers and trim rings, but no mounting pieces. Thanks!
  17. Use black silicone sealer to patch holes, tears, or cracks in the rubber trim pieces on early bumpers. Apply it from the tube using an old business card for smoothing. Let it dry over night and then treat the rubber trim with your favorite trim dressing. Keep the suggestions coming! Dennis 1971 240Z Original Owner
  18. If the rubber squeegee material was available, how difficult might it be to bond it to the metal trim piece? I ask because I haven't taken the door trim off to look at the underside.
  19. In a perfect world, you'd replace them both. But if you're on a budget, take either one off and check the rubber seals and cylinder bore for pitting. Pop in a new seal kit and/or hone the cylinder if not badly pitted. Next, do the same with the the other. Then, start saving money to replace them both )
  20. I've had a Toshiba HD DVD player for a few months and love it - loads of HD videos on Netflix. That said, buy a Blue-Ray player as I tend to always go with the wrong format. My HD player may end up in the closet with my Beta video player and 8 track audio set.
  21. Since April 2007 I've spent about $1,000 MORE than it cost when I bought it new in 1971 - and at that time I paid about $500 over sticker to go to the top of the nine month waiting list at the dealership. Worth every penny - it owes me nothing after almost 37 years. Dennis
  22. How can anyone improve on the G-nose?
  23. The aftermarket AM/FM in my '71 Z is about at the end of its useful life. Anyone had any experience with currently available replacements that use the original faceplate and have room for the antenna switch? I'd hate to have to go back to AM unit I removed soon after leaving the showroom floor in 1971.
  24. How do the JDM trim pieces mount to the headlight buckets - machine screws or self tapping screws?
