  1. Isn't that movie called 2fast and 2 furious. YO?
  2. Well you know what? My stock Silverado runs 15.42's in the 1/4 mile, so I jump on any ricer I can find. Tow/haul mode is excellant for keeping the RPMS up too, just in case. I knew you were going to smoke the guy. Get ahold of one in the rain with that 4 wheel drive, and and you can really have some fun. Nice ricer kill man.
  3. I will let my ZXT get a little low racing at the drag strip, but I would not do it in my 240. When I had the tank modified, anything under 1/4 would cause it to suck air, which quite frankly, SUCKED. I don't have to worry about vapor lock with a 4 bar fuel map.
  4. Now that is SWEET.
  5. Yeah RPMS are what kills one. The reason I used this guy is because he said he used to build nissan racing engines, and I have to say, his machine work was nice. I have never seen cylinders honed out like mine were. He also liked my polish job on the rods. Really though I just think over the last 4 or 5 years, we have seen people really push the envelope on what a stock engine can handle, and with engine management improving, it is easy to make alot of power on a stock engine. I guess it just kind of killed me to have a race engine builder tell me my prepped rods could handle less boost then unprepped ones in a stock engine. Stock boost is more then 5 psi.
  6. That transmission sucks. The gear spacing is terrible, especially between second and third gear. The ZX trans with its .745 overdrive and 3.90's is a much better choice. I don't ever recommend a Z 5 speed. Here is a handy link to check out. http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/ It has lots of transmissions for the Z car, and rear gears, and even has a 6 speed, don't remember if it was a t56 or what.
  7. I got one better. I have 240 9mm rods in my engine. I polished them, had them shotpeened, bushed for floaters, and had the oil holes drilled per the How to hotrod a nissan book. Good for 600 hp according to most sources. My machinist put in ARP rodbolts and told me I should be good to about 5 psi. This from someone who had supposedly built nissan racing engines. I was like OK.
  8. I hope he can spool those turbo's, otherwise it is going to be a pig.
  9. Yes rice sucks. I agree with the Maximum Boost Rec. It is a good resource manual, although I think Corky can be a touch conservative. I told his protoge' I was running about 18 psi and he about stroked out.
  10. IMHO, 3.56's with the ZX 5 speed are a little tall, 3.70's are nice, and 3.90's work well too. The T5 and 3.56's work well, but requires more work to get the trans in, and you have to shorten the driveshaft I believe, and you have to mod the crossmember. I liked the ZX trans with 3.70's. It kind of split the difference between 3.56 and 3.90's. I liked the 3.56's on the highway though, I had one hell of an over drive, but I felt the car was a little to sluggish in first and second. Perhaps with what I have now, my opinion would be different. I had a stock turbo, and stock actuator at the time. 3.70's are harder to come by though. If you can find a set, I would grab them, they will work well with any trans, and I would like to have a set right now, as I am running 3.90's with the T5 in my ZX. I like that combo too, and expect to be shifting into 5th gear before the 1/4 mile is up now.
  11. Lets see my most expensive hobby right now is a divorce lawyer. Then I have a 2000 Silverado 83 280ZXT 74 260Z ( going to have to sell) 96 Seadoo SPX with ride plate, billet head and sponsons Toro Personal Pace mower Snapper Rear Engine Rider Snapper Weedeater Weedeater gas hedge trimmer Weedeater gas blower Stihl Chainsaw Lincoln Welder DR field and Brush mower Thats about it for now. Maybe when I have some money again, I can buy some more toys. I like fast boats. But they are really expensive to maintain.
  12. Why an E88 or N42? Are you going to have the combustion chambers tweeked?
  13. I am going to have my head worked and want to replace the valve guides. What is the hot ticket on guides? Bronze or steel?
  14. Go with a mild one unless you plan on adding a header and compression. MSA has several, and I would go with one of the first two. The 274 duration 480 lift cam is really sweet even in a modded engine. I have used it and recommend it.
  15. I know the setup comes with a holley projection efi setup, at least the later ones did. From what I have seen it is a nice kit. and probably adds a lot more torqueyness to the engine. It would not be as good a choice as a turbo, but better then a cam if you ask me.
  16. I hope you did not forget the pilot bushing in the crank. Autos don't normally come with them, and you will be rebuilding a tranny before long without it.
  17. There is a guy around here in redneck country that has one, but I could spank his a$$ at the strip. They fit in there nice though, and IMO the suspension can better handle the power. If you are going to pay someone to do it, better get out your checkbook. Good luck.
  18. He chucked a rod. The biggest issue with the 2g eclipse is crankwalk. You can look at the team nabr public board and read their tech articles on the subject. Nabr is probably the best resource on the web for DSM info. One of their members recently dyno'd 600 hp to the wheels with his 75 shot going, and you can hear it break the tires loose on the dyno. I have seen the car run low 12's to high 11's at 130mph. He is a GST FWD, and spins drag slicks. Truely an impressive car, if it was just AWD, it would be a low 10 second car for sure.
  19. I want one after LPE has gotten ahold of it. Nice looking car.
  20. Sorry to hear man. Good luck with the search for a replacement.
  21. The pic looked cool. I was wondering about doing that to my Cobra MAF, but haven't really looked at it hard, so I wanted to see what you did to it.
  22. Yeah, and edelbrock, holley and accel all offer kits for the SBC that get them up and running with EFI. Another option is a 5.0 liter Ford swap, rumor has it their efi is simple to wire up, and parts are cheap.
