  1. Just watched Cars 2. I spotted at least four S30s. First one was when Mater rolls into the bathroom, a red Z leaves shortly after he enters. There were a couple of green ones (one in Mater's dream sequence) and a blue one was present when he saw McMissile's "karate demonstration". Oh, and the gong hubcap, saw that too.
  2. Over the Top - 1987 A Sylvester Stallone film where the plot revolves around arm wrestling and a whiny kid. The annoying kid gets kidnapped at one point which results in a car chase with three generations of Z cars visible in less than 1 minute of screen time.
  3. I have a Sony a500. I already had a Minolta prior to this, so I didn't want to have to buy new telephoto and wide angle lenses. I like the Sony; it hasn't let me down yet and it actually does really well in low light situations. I'm not a professional or expert in the matter by any means, but the camera does what I need it to do.
  4. If you liked this show, you should check out Bangla Bangers. I came across it a few months ago while channel surfing. It's almost like watching American customizers from the 1950s. Everything done by hand, no safety equipment, all torch welded. Don't want to pay for abrasive media? Just pay 20 guys to scrape all of the paint off of the car with old hacksaw blades. No car hoist? Just roll it over on it's side. Does your four door car have body lines that are too "normal"? Try moving the windshield back a few feet. Worry about the steering and gearshift linkage later.
  5. I found the same kind of repair on another vehicle of mine recently. On the inner fender, just under the battery tray it had been repaired in the past with a brass solder job. Mine was a small spot, so I ground off the brass and welded up the hole with a proper patch piece.
  6. The one I bought a couple years ago from MSA is a Kyosan Denki brand. It's not one of the non-rebuildable stamped sheetmetal kind. They sell them for $66. I'd still like to know if anyone sells rebuild kits though. I have no idea how old the Nikki pump on my 510 is and it'd be handy to have a spare kit if it goes out.
  7. "Can I take off my shoes now?" I'm going to be waiting for that line in the movie.
  8. Thanks! Yep, I'd love to find some 14xWide period correct wheels, but I've decided on 16x8 +4 Rota RB-Rs with 225-50-16 tires (I rolled the fenders a bit when I had it apart for paint and body work). Now I just need the money (p.s. I've got a 1970 Chevy Blazer for sale, hint hint, nudge nudge) then the current wheels/tires would look right at home on my 510. Nice meeting you at the show too.
  9. Looks good. I'll have to peruse the magazine racks soon it seems.
  10. I pulled off the road for a minute on my way back from the MSA show and snapped these: I consider it "done" now. A few little driveability enhancements, some newer wheels and perhaps some suspension work in the future, but for the present I can just relax, drive and enjoy.

    Poor Z

Theft preventative measure. Didn't you know that pink cars rarely, if ever get stolen?
  12. A couple of familiar shapes in Lethal Weapon - 1987
  13. Anyone else cringe every time a desirable piece disappeared off screen? Taillights, SU carb setups, 9mm L24 rods, interior pieces, etc... They probably all wound up in a dumpster behind the shop. The one design feature I did like from the show was the red leather covered dash in the 'Speed Racer' car. Too bad you could see that the leather was already starting to peel away from the dash because it hadn't been adhered properly.
  14. Found a still with the 280ZX from True Lies. I also recently watched The Gumball Rally from 1976 and there were Datsuns all over in that one. The silver car parked on the street as the Camaro is passing it looked small enough and of the right shape to be an S30.
  15. This may not be a technical term, but humina humina humina.
  16. You might be able to find most of this info with Google searches. For instance, Colorado uses Magnesium Chloride which is a different sort of salt than most places use in the winter. There are all sorts of sites that talk about the differences. A simple search for "turbochargers at altitude" yields plenty of pertinant results too. Even Wikipedia has a decent explanation for why lower octane ratings are offered for fuels in states with high elevations.
  17. More to add: 7.30 lbs '72 240Z Front bumper, completely bare 1.10 lbs '72 240Z Bumper mount brackets, each 0.50 lbs Bumper overriders, each 0.45 lbs Bumper rubber strips, each 4.0 lbs Interior vinyl kit (from MSA) includes center console, luggage riser, wheel housings and shock towers with cardboard shock tower pieces. Does not include door sills, headliner or a-pillar trim.
  18. I just took a brand new Fel-Pro out of the packaging last week and uncompressed it measured 1.13mm thick. BRAPP has said that he's measured many compressed Fel-Pro head gaskets at 1.12 - 1.14mm.
  19. Did the car ever have an automatic transmission?
  20. I'm with Racer Z, I'd like to see the weights of some aftermarket parts. Then we'd have a better idea just how much weight we would be saving by switching to them. When I had my Z completely torn apart for the bodywork and paint, I took the opportunity to weight a few items on my nice digital scale. Here's what I came up with for some of the parts on my '72 Z. 37.10 lbs Hood 4.40 lbs Cowl with styrofoam pad intact 2.40 lbs Center valence piece 1.10 lbs Right and left valence pieces, each 13.0 lbs Right and left fenders, each 23.30 lbs Left door, bare. No glass, window frame, door latch, mechanisms, hinges, nothing except the bare shell 9.70 lbs Left door glass with the metal brace that bolts to the bottom of it, nothing more 2.60 lbs Left door window regulator 3.50 lbs Left door window frame w/ felt strips 19.20 lbs Rear hatch, bare. No glass, weatherstripping, rubber, latch, lock or emblems 2.50 lbs Right and left headlight buckets, metal, each 3.00 lbs Right headlight bucket, original FRP style. Yes, they are heavier than the metal ones. 0.60 lbs Gas filler flap, metal 1.00 lbs Engine bay inspection covers, each 2.40 lbs Grille, 240Z style 1.10 lbs Taillight finishers, each
  21. True Lies - 1994 As Ahnold and Tom Arnold are driving at night in their Jimmy (or surveilance van, I can't quite remember), there is a 280ZX in traffic with them. It's the scene where they're being tailed by some baddies.
  22. I bought mine, an ITM set (flat top, +1mm) from a BAP auto parts store. Not sure if there's an import auto parts store like that near you, but they came in handy when rebuilding my L28.
  23. That's odd Chace. I just bought a reman '79-'81 NABCO unit two weeks ago at O'Reilly and it was here the next day. I also bought another reman, exact same unit for another vehicle a couple years ago at an Autozone in Arizona and it was there the next day too. Perhaps it's some sort of California geographical oddity?
  24. Here are a couple under full, direct sunlight.
