  1. Slotting the rear crossmember is probably what you're talking about. The older 510 rear suspension is very simular. I've seen a tech article on slotting the rear not to reduce squat, but to correct toe and camber once the rear is lowered with lowering springs. The lowering springs should be more stiff, which helps reduce the squat. http://dimequarterly.tierranet.com/articles/tech_crossmember_slotting.html
  2. Largest width or diameter? 8 inch front fits the 240Z/280Z 9 inch rear. 195/70/14 is the stock tire size so 225/35/19 is only barely larger diameter. 19" wheels? Zero offset front and +10-15 offset rear. The 280ZX can fit 8.5 front and 10 inch rear inside the stock fenders.
  3. I had the same problem on my ZX. The oil pickup tube sticks down too far into the pan. I did what you did and just replaced the gasket with the pan hanging there under the engine. Not fun on your neck.
  4. I don't remember exactly why, but when I replaced the struts all around on a 1975 Z, I did have to unhook the rear brake hoses. However I did not replace any of the bushings back there. Just disconnected the half shafts, brake hoses, and tilted the strut out.
  5. The T-tops are longer front to back, but have the same width as the 2-seater cars.
  6. Does it look strange setting in the wheel well? Can that be adjusted...? Adjust the tension rod out to push the control arm back a half inch or so?
  7. stock 300ZX wheels from the 80's should be cheap. Infinity I30 (early 90's) is 5-lug RWD. late 80's RX7
  8. Hey Tec280zx, do you have any pictures of the 280ZX with your wheels on? I got info that the 300ZX strut assembly moves the wheel furward when mounted in the 280ZX. Its hard to tell without a wheel and tire on it, and the car on the ground. Any problems turning? to me it looks like the same alignment as the 280ZX strut but maybe I wont know untill I get in there and try the swap myself. My 300ZX struts are from an '87. Yours are 84-85. - - - - - - - - Ok, I found them on your website... looks ok to me from this angle.
  9. Ya, that's what I'm planning to use. 1987 brakes front and rear. Even the front rotors have different part numbers than all pre '87. I see that 87-89 rear rotors are the same for turbo and NA. 87-89 front rotors have different part numbers for turbo and NA. I don't know what the difference is. I have an 87 NA parts car to pull all my parts from. I figure I'll just go with the 300ZX calipers too so the shape and pad surface matches what it was made to go with. (for what its worth) I would have to make caliper adaptors anyway. Brake line adjustments will be easy in comparison.
  10. Did you ever consider using the same year 300ZX rear calipers? If so, why did you choose the 280ZX calipers? I'm planning a simular swap but with vented 1987 rotors and 300ZX calipers.

    T5 Installed

Low mile T5 installed in my non-turbo 280ZX 2 2. Not hard at all.
  15. My custom aluminum backing plate. Works good, sturdy, and lots of room for cool switches and maybe a guage on the side.
  16. Cheap conversion, good light output for the money.
  17. My Turbo Parts car. Low miles, all original, lots of fun to be had.
  18. Good old non-tubo engine. Lots of miles, lots of fun, still running strong.
  19. Its not for a 620 truck. It 'could' be for a 521 truck, or any number of 70s Datsun cars... Are you sure its not a spoiler? like a front lip BRE spoiler? I can't tell from that picture.
  20. NICE! So, pre 87 300ZX rotors, and you're using the factory 280ZX rear calipers with some custom welded bracket made from a ZX hub?
  21. aaah, so you're the guy who outbid me on those calipers on eBay!
  22. I don't know if my way is the best but this is what I do. If you plan to paint it, I use Gunk engine degreaser and a wire brush to clean it. Then a diffrent nylon brush with car soap. Then finish with lots of brake cleaner. The brake cleaner cleans out all the degreaser and then self-drys. Just paint on that. If you're just looking to clean them while on the car, only use brake cleaner.
  23. OUCH!!! Is the inner fender and strut mounting point ok? Looks very bad from those pics... I hope you get it all together and it drives straight with new parts.
  24. How about the 2+2? Anyone know possible differences between 82-83 2-seater and 2+2 non-turbos vs. 2+2 turbo, 2-seater turbo? But I agree that they all ride pretty soft. Aftermarket springs and struts should be used.
  25. After re-reading his original post I would guess he is using 300ZX rotors and calipers but the rotors must be drilled to 4-lug and use the 4-lug hub. He never mentioned drilling the 300ZX rotor to 4-lug. ???
