I've used eDead from elemental designs. they have both a peel and stick as well as a liquid version of their deadener. They have 3 different thicknesses in peel and stick as well as a closed foam product which is good for higher frequencies. www.edesignaudio.com for those interested. I have used this on my daily driver civic for its doors and trunk and its a noticable difference with just their V1 product. I have the hatch area of the Z done so far and will do the floors when my seats come out to be redone. My neighbor has it in his 300zx as well. Good stuff. Great price.

if it comes to that i certainly won't have an issue. I would like to support my local shops as well though. Also being in Canada I will undoubtably get hammered with duties and brokerage on a $400 purchase coming across the American boarder to me... Looks like I'll have to pay the piper if I can't find the PN anywhere.

I have a local Sanderson dealer and I was wondering if anyone has the Part number for the 1 3/4" primary headers for the LS1 swap. I searched for about 45min and came up empty handed other than #DAT-405C which is obviously just the PN to be used when ordering from JTR specifically. Any insight would be appreciated Thanks jason

a story from university a few years ago We had a special time management speaker come into the class and talk to us about how get the most from our day and how to be productive in all aspects of life, work and personal. He took out a large container and put it on the desk. He filled it with large rocks till no more could fit in and proceeded to ask the class if the container was full. They all nodded yes it was. He then pulled out smaller stones and filled in the big gaps between the large rocks. He again asked if they container was now full. This time again the students nodded their heads and called him sneaky. The speaker then took out some sand. He poured it on top of the rocks and stones and it settled in and filled all the crevaces that were left. He pronounced "now thats full isn't it!" again the students agreed. The speaker laughed. He took a bucket of water and filled the container to the brim soaking the rocks, stones and sand. The speaker asked the students what they thought the moral of the story was. they said no matter how much work you have to do you can always do more in a given time. He said no. Always put the biggest things into every day first, your family, the work will fill itself in around them. *steps on soap box* i too work 6 days a week and only get sundays to work on my Z. thats no a problem. your problem is your time management. period. if you can't set aside some down time for you and your GF you have a serious problem. it has nothing to do with selling a project (or 3) but making time for the things that are important in life. if you put a car before someone that has been in your life for over 7yrs and 'plan' on getting married with i feel sorry for her as she desrves better IMO. A 'car' shouldn't come before a loved one for this long. you dont HAVE to work on the car every sunday, you dont have to work on the car every evening. you choose to. whats worse is you only see your GF every other weekend you say becuase she goes to college out of town...yet on those weekend you still wrench the car while she sits alone? what kind of BS is that? Obviously we are not getting the whole story or she has the lowest self-esteem I've ever heard of a woman having. Just be thankful she hasn't left you. *steps off soap box*

tire widths vs rim widths?
janaka replied to janaka's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
well this is going to be a pain. i was so happy with the wheels on the car now I have to try to find a new set. here's to endless nights of surfing the net for new ones. thanks guys -
ok guys i searched here and on google and have not found anything that will let me know what the widest tire I can safely mount on my konig imagine rims. They are only 7" and currently have 215's on them. for the stockish L6 they weregreat but with LS1, 215's wont cut it. I was hoping that I could go to 245's or if I was REALLY lucky a 255. does anyone know what the widest I can go on a 7" rim is? Thanks and as always much appreciated.

LS_1 / 6 Speed Clutch Question

LS based Z cars track times?
janaka replied to Slammed68's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I did this calculator where it asks for weight and track time and it tells you the HP... my Z at 2900lbs and a 15.3 (which i ran this summer) equals 160.03RWHP... I dyno'd at 162RWHP... pretty damn close IMO... that said a 3000lb Z (with ls1) and only 375RWHP will be a 11.65 1/4mile.. sounds interesting to me... -

Did the .875 tilton end up working well for you with the T56? do you have an update on this? -
lS1 EVAP Purge Valve and Catalytic converters
janaka replied to zed240au's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I don't plan on running any of the emissions gear on my Z. EGR was already blocked off from the previous owner, no cats are required for me where I live so those won't be back on the car either. Exhuast will most likely be 3" mandrel all the way back to a magnaflow muffler and an electric cutout before the muffler. -
This is what I was thinking too.. the LSx platform is a great way to get 500+ HP without much trouble or loss of driveability. I'm on ls1tech.com and I see 400+RWHP with a small cam/headers and a tune more or less... Add a nice set of heads add 30-50hp with a small-ish cam. Big cam plus heads = 500 with a good tune etc...and it will be streetable. I'm doing the ls1 and a 224/224 561/561 114+4 cam, 1 3/4 headers and an LS6 intake and should be 380-400-ish rwhp based on the information I've gotten from vendors on that site... thats a great hp/weight ratio..lol.. my wife is going to love it

What to do with stock LS1 heads?
janaka replied to Nealio240z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
what casting are they? I'd decide what cam you are planning to run, and also if you are going FI as those two things are the biggest factors in what is 'needed' to be done to the heads. From my recent reading on ls1tech.com (go there, LOTS of info) rockers aren't really utilized all that much other than stock. Rollers can reduce some valvetrain stress/wear but to each their own. 500rwhp can be done NA for sure with a nice cam/head/intake/LT combo. There are guys running small cams (224/224 .567I .567E or smaller) and putting down 400+ hp... 500 is 'almost' a walk in the park with a bigger cam and nice heads. Here is some light reading from one of the stickies on ls1tech.com Is there a benefit to running aftermarket roller rockers? http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=669911 http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=713034 Head cc volume = what compression ratio? http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111207 The "recipe" to making 500 rwhp with just heads and cam http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=732392 Head flow comparison. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=317323 http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99248 Who are the best LSX head porters in the USA? http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=651243 -
If I was going to use a 3.8 Series II L67 (supercharged motor in regal, grand prix, bonneville, monte) I would probably just turbo the thing instead. 8.4:1 with a nice turbo kit will make north of 400whp all day long at around 15psi and a FMIC. I used to own a turbo grand prix and it was a blast. Previous to going turbo I had it supercharged, small pulley, W/A IC, headers, LS1 TB, headers etc etc and the torque was silly The eaton M90's are inefficient though, they generate a LOT of heat when they are spinning with small pullies. I would almost say it wouldn't be worth doing with out an IC setup of somesort to get the intake temps in line. That was my favorite car till I got the Z... i still miss the GP though

My biggest, most painful accident was working on my brakes of my Grand Prix a few years ago. I was trying to get the caliper off the knuckle and my hand slipped off my ratchet and my hand went flying into the fender. I ended up breaking a bone in my hand (if you look at your right hand at your pointer finger it was the bone just below the knuckle). I didn't realize I broke it at the time as I was cursing and swearing so I clearly didn't go get it looked at. I thought it was just bruised etc. I still have a bump on the finger as it didn't heal 100% on its own. Fun !

I was in the same boat your son-in-law was... I got in an accident and had two tickets (maybe 3?) from when I had just gotten my licence. Then my dad and mom split and i got booted from being on a corporate insurance policy to whatever I could get on my own since my dad stopped talking to me and i got rapped. I dealt with it on my own for about 3 yrs then it started to come back down and now is relatively reasonable. I was paying north of $400/mnth on my 99 Grand Prix. The speeding ticket was my biggest learning experience and since have not gotten a ticket. Live and learn I guess. We all make mistakes, some learn from them thankfully. Cheers and happy new year

the home depot stuff is asphalt based, it will smell in the heat. and as mentioned two post us if it gets extremely hot it will slide/melt. Thats whats nice about automotive sound deadener, its meant to be in extreme temps and still stick. 95% of automotive deadeners are also not asphalt anymore to get away from the smell in the heat too. on the elemental designs website they show their deadener in an oven at voer 400*F and no real ill effects that i remember. check it out. for $.80/sqft its dirt cheap.

I got lucky. Just picked up a '00 LS1 and T56, shop engine crane (2ton) also my wife got me a '72 Datsun 240z model car, cupholders, "Z" valve stem caps, Z key chain and a Z pen. She spoiled me with the little stuff. Best part is I was in Nebraska picking up the motor when i realized I had no way to get it out of the SUV when I got home so i called my wife to go pick up the engine picker. She got it, brought it home and had it put together for when we got home. She's the bestest ever!

I've read the how-to install on the LS forums already and I wasn't sure if it'd be the same in our car since the motor sits so low in relation to everything... ie bumper etc and wasn't sure if the cam would clear everthing even with the rad removed from a Z.

well this weekend I go to pick up my '00 SS drop out LS1 and T56 (40k on it, stock). I've got my motor stand all set up and ready to go to work for the first time I'm looking for some input from those with LSx's on your opinion's on cam swaps on these motors. I know that with the motor out the swap will be a breeze as nothing is in the way etc etc. I could only imagine trying to do the swap in the car . Has anyone done an LSx cam swap with the motor IN the car? Is it something that I should just do with it out and get it done 'easily'? I know that I want some more power than a stock LS1 and longtubes are not happening, I will be doing an LS6 intake and a ported TB, mandrel exhuast (with cutout) and the JTR headers so I'm not sure what else I can do for good HP increases with a moderate price (aka heads not so cheap, those would be a 'down the road' mod). I've been lurking a lot on ls1tech and ls1.com and the cam that seems to fit my needs is a 224/224 witha 114lsa (want a nice idle as my wife will drive this 2-3days a week to work). It seems that this is a nice littlle cam (fairly mild) that gives some decent gains with a tune and some bolt ons (as said above). I would also at the same time change valvesprings, go to a hardened push rod and change the timing chain and oil pump while I'm at it (oh no, there's that saying)... Thoughts, comments concerns with regards to cam swaps on these motors and my train of thought as shared above?

are you going to use the JCI driveshaft? also had you thought about the LS6 intake manifold? I've heard from the LSx guys they are a nice little upgrade for mild-moderate builds. thoughts?
