  1. Most likely you can buy a dash cap that fits over your cracked dash. If the seat foam is good in your seats, you can buy the vinyl kits that make your seats look good as new. Buying the foam for your seats increases the cost of course.
  2. Have you tried using RainX on the inside of the windshield?. You can buy a trial size tube of it at autozone for like a buck.
  3. Remember that you need to make that diaphram rod as tight as possible before attaching the end to the actuator arm. Otherwise the actuator will open before its set boost level. You should have to use a lot of force, to attach the rod to the actuator arm.
  4. Bondo doesn't hold up. the dash moves with the heat and then the cold. So it will crack again with bondo. Search for dash repairs. I think a few people have had success using spray foam in cans, but search to make sure.
  5. When you ask someone behind the parts counter, Where are your glass fuses. When you can't find any glass fuses and buy a pack of Wrigleys spearmint gum, So you can use the foil wrapper to go around that blown fuse, to get ya home. Not saying I had to do that.
  6. When you go to any Auto Parts store and they say you have a WHAT?????. You have your Datsun Cap on your head and people stop you and say: I used to have one of those. ) When you can swap the entire drivetrane from an 1983 ZX into a 1970 Z. Haaa.
  7. Usually a decent length pry bar pops em right out. Works better if you ate Wheeties for breakfast. Its good that you got them out though.
  8. As stated above, Once you start connecting the ecu and then the injector harness connections, the rest of the harness should just lay out the way it needs to go. If you have a wiring diagram, it tells you which colored wire connectors go to which coolant temp sensor and so on. You should be able to figure out the correct connectors to go with the correct sensor.
  9. Yep that 4 bolt pipe. I call it the down pipe. If you put that gasket in upside down you will have an exhaust leak. Whooops did it a couple of times myself.
  10. I have 3 stock 280ZX turbos and none of them have a 7 bolt gasket. It seems like they are a machine flat fit and no gasket is needed. None of mine have leaked there. You will need a gasket on the back of that Wategate flapper housing though. If you put it on upside down that will leak, Ask me how I know. lol
  11. You can also add automatic transmission fluid along with the oil, It is a detergent fluid. We usually add some to the oil of an engine that is slugged up and run it a while. Pretty clean after that oil is changed.
  12. Great present from her to you man. You do know you have to show up at things and events shes involved with, right.
  13. The same L28 engine that is in your z now, is basically what the turbo engine is. Except for the turbo add on parts. It is a direct bolt in swap. You need to figure out if your going to use the engine harness, thats running that engine now. Or are you going to run it with an aftermarket setup.
  14. Should work, The 810 is what the Maxima was first called, Look for a Mid 70's Z intake. You will need a low volume pump before the mechanical fuel pump, for your SU install.
  15. Junk-yards for me. Found two 3.70 CLSD units in the same yard, 2 rows apart. ) Imagine the smile I was trying to hold back when they said $65.00 bucks each. Trying to figure out how to carry two diffs and a tool bag to the sales counter, was the real chore.
  16. Yes you can turbo your n/a engine. Buy the turbo manifold, turbo, oil line and t fitting, exhaust downpipe. Megasquirt, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, later on you will need to upgrade to a better fuel pump, J-pipe, turbo dist, its easier to do with a turbo dist, turbo oil pan, or add the drain bung to your oil pan, other parts are listed in the forums. Have add it. I have been running an N/A Turbo engine for 6 years and love it.
  17. Its only a rip off if you paid for them to paint. Damn, Maaco and Earl Shieb paint entire cars for less then that. lol The Bumper repair guys who travel around to car dealerships, will paint it cheap.
  18. Most people who install megasquirt into there car, remove the factory harness and use a Megasquirt harness because its no longer needed. Plus the megasquirt harness is pre-labeled. Makes for a quick and easy install. You won't need the factory AFM Airflow meter wiring. Cold start injector wiring Auxillary air regulator wiring You need to add a G.M. air sensor to your wiring diagram a newer model throttle position sensor, 240sx one.
  19. Look for Maximas also, Same L series Engine.
  20. Just as was stated above, the all zx alternators have internal voltage regulators. So the problem might be the alternator or a bad connection at the battery or alternator. Also make sure all the fuses and fuse links are good. If you drive at night are the headlights dim and the interior gauges dim?. Does your charge light light come on?. Does the gauge read over 12 volts when your driving?.
  21. I would say no on the alternator being the issue. Do the ignition lights work?. Do the headlights work?. You will need a volt meter if you can't get one, if not get a test light and start checking battery power at your fuses and fuse links. After that go to your ignition switch and check for power when the key is in the run and on position. Don't throw parts at.
  22. Your going to have to use the 240z write up as a reference, Early 260z's wiring is similar to the 240z. Late model 260z wiring is similar to 280z wiring. Write down which colored wires are on the back of your alternator. Use the write up description to help you figure out the wires to jumper or directly wire into your harness. Decide if your going to wire the car permanantely for the zx alternator or use the jumper plug off your voltage regulator connector, incase you want to switch it back to the older alternator. Figure out which wires you jumper or wire directly into your harness. Don't forget to add the Diode, so your engine will turn off when you turn the key off. Thats it.
  23. I like the Gray sealant, Thin layer on the gaskets. Personally i like to use copper tack on my headgaskets. I was taught to use it by some old school mechanics, when i was wrenching with them in the early 80's.
  24. Early L28 N/A engines, have dished pistons. If you search for n/a turbo all the parts are listed depending on which way you want to go. The better option is to install the Megasquirt. You will also need to find an air intake sensor to run Megasquirt. You can read how to install and set up Megasquirt at MSEFI.COM. Figure out which version of Megasquirt you want to use. If you do a search and save all the info you find, it will help you greatly with your Megasquirt install and turbo upgrade.
