That MegaJolt looks like it only does DIS systems. I actually want to keep using a distributor. My final plans include using a non-VVTi 2JZ-GE with the stock Toyota distributor and triple Webers. I basically want it to look as similar to an S20 as possible.

So I would need a TPS to get the timing proper? I was thinking the curves could be set using RPM and load so I wouldn't need a TPS. I have no problems with tapping it runner for a better vacuum signal for the MAP sensor, if done to the bottom side it would be unnoticeable anyways. Does MS have the capability of increasing coil voltage like MSD and Mallory do? I was looking at ignition boxes but I couldn't find one I liked because the cheaper ones were to simplistic and the completely tunable ones were way too expensive and still didn't do everything I wanted. At least with MS, if I go turbo in the future and find Webers too difficult to tune properly for the boost then I can switch to EFI easily.

I had an idea today and I want to know the possibilities of it before I dedicated more time to research. I want to keep carbs on my car but upgrade the ignition and leave room for a future turbo add-on if I so desire. I always wanted to put an O2 sensor in the exhaust to measure AFRs in different ranges so I was thinking maybe I could get a Megasquirt system to finely control timing curves and be able to view them on the same graph as RPM and AFRs and maybe even a MAP sensor (maybe in NA form, needed in turbo form.) Would MS work with that idea or be too costly for something so simple?

Well, I got impatient and took the sender apart and epoxied what was the top side of the coils to the backing and reinstalled it upside-down cleaning the insulation coating off the other side and put it all back together. It works a lot smoother now, but I'm still not getting accurate readings with my ohm-meter. Better readings, but still gets into the K-ohm ranges. I'm thinking of taking some 600 grit to the coils to get them cleaner, already took sandpaper to the contact that travels across it. Edit: I got a can of electrical cleaner from the parts store and sprayed it on there and retested it with the meter, I get good readings through the whole range now. My friend epoxied a fuel leak he had on a pressed in fitting in a factory Holley 600 from a Mustang that was given to him and he hasn't had any problems with it dissolving or anything so I felt like I could trust it in my gas tank.

I got a new fuel tank with a new (to me) sender in it. My old sender has one of the wire prongs broken off it and I took the one out of the new tank and found that the small coils in it are loose and catching when you move the float up and down so I'm wondering if it would be good to cover the coils in epoxy and then sand it down to the copper so they don't move around anymore and have smooth action up and down, or would the fuel just dissolve the epoxy causing damage to the whole system?

My car has a 75' L28 with a 280ZX distributor running a Holley 390. Ever since it started getting cold my car has been hard to start and keep running. I just got done checking the cam timing, valve lash, and ignition timing. I also started cleaning the insides of the distributor and while doing that I decided to check of the vacuum advance was working so I sucked on it and found that there's a hole in it. I can't find any place to buy just the vacuum dashpot, does anyone know where? It's not in my Black Dragon catalog or Autozone.com.

I double that. My S30 is currently both my daily driver and my project car and it's a bad idea to have it that way. I'm afraid to do any major work on it on the weekends (I get two 4 day weekends from work a month) because I can't guarantee that the car will be drivable by Monday morning. I've been thinking about getting an old bike or scooter to solve this problem but money is hard to get these days. I had a Celica that I learned how to drive in (put it into the ditch about 11 times before I traded it for a Mustang) and now that I'm driving my Z I have gotten into the safest habits, the best one being not driving on the roads during day-time because there's a lot of stupid drivers out there. That's also the reason why I stay far, far away from other people on the roads because even though I may know that "I can make it" I just don't know how the people in the other cars will react if I go for it, my brother is impatient and hates riding with me because of that.

Aero Advice on 260z
AkumaNoZeta replied to sopwith21's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
You have the glass now so you can do it in stages. Record your times with the glass, then see how your times change after taking all the glass out, and then check the change in times again after installing lexan windows. Then you have hard data to play with. -
Aero Advice on 260z
AkumaNoZeta replied to sopwith21's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
I would think that the car would have less drag without the windows since it will reduce the frontal area and get rid of the high pressure area on the cowl. -
So good enough for body work but not good enough for structural work? I guess that's still decent because I do also want to shave the sidemarkers and got some wheel arch cancer.

The welder has worked for tacking things together on the mini-bike so far. It pretty cool looking, I've never seen anything like it. It looks like a miniature cafe' racer. We still need to find a back wheel to match the front and until we can do that, we're pretty much stuck.
-
I mainly bought it for him because he thinks he can use it for his mini-bike project, he's supposed to give me the money back when tax returns come in. $25 isn't really anything for me but he's in bad financial situations (hard for him to keep a job) so $25 is a lot for him. I was already saving up my money for a Lincoln 225 TIG, I just wanted to ask about this certain one first because if it was workable then I could have used the Lincoln money for a jump start on my Z project.

A friend of mine pressured me into buying a Chicago Electric Easy Mig 110 flux-core welder for $25. I'm wondering if this would be suitable for putting in Bad Dog frame rails and connectors with Zedd Finding floor pans or if I should not even try and save up money for a gas MIG?

I like playing with this one better. http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp

The official: "I had one of those once..." thread
AkumaNoZeta replied to cygnusx1's topic in Non Tech Board
As soon as I got my 74' running I got pulled over every week for the first 4 weeks for careless/reckless driving (burnouts, 20-30MPH over the limit, etc) and I never got a single ticket. All the cops stopped me (one even followed me home and didn't turn his blue lights on until I got on my street) and just talked about how much they liked my car. Which is good because I had the Mustang before and was told if I got one more ticket I'll lose my license, lol. -
Anyone know why 6-3-1 headers aren't more common for NA applications? I've Googled it and all I found was a set of homemade ones with nothing said about them (like the guy posted the photo of them on a forum and no one seemed to care to say anything about it) and an aftermarket 6-3-1 header for some VW thing. So anyone has there opinion on it, other than not enough space in the engine bay?

Stock Brakes vs. Upgrades
AkumaNoZeta replied to kce's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
What I've been thinking for my car is since it will be a 100% street car basically that I will keep the stock brakes and since I want manual brakes, get a dual master cylinder set-up with a balance bar so I can tune the front:rear braking ratio for better efficiency. -
Driving a slow car does make you laugh. Back when my parents had a 98' Corolla I had lots of fun laughing at it while driving it...that was until I took a corner to fast and totaled it into a fence post. But that turned out to be a good thing because with the lack of a car in the garage I was able to get my Z towed back to the house so I can work on getting it running and then I drove that for about 4-5 months and now it's down because I lost 1st and 2nd in the 4 speed and currently trying to put a 5 speed from a local member here in it but I'm suffering from lack of equipment (my dad got rid of a bunch of stuff when he "cleaned" out the garage.)

how many guys still have several local car buddies
AkumaNoZeta replied to grumpyvette's topic in Non Tech Board
I'm 21 and single but my only friend that has the ability to help me with my car is 33 years old with a wife and 3 kids so it takes a while before we can get anything done. I also do 12 hour shifts of hard labor so after work all I do is go to bed and that makes Fridays/Thursdays (I work 3 days one week and 4 days the next) my rest day because I'm completely beat at work (I've very much out of shape) and I have no spirit on Sundays because I dread going to work the next day. A lot of people have told me that I'm already a grumpy old man and considering that my best friend is 33 and everybody else I know is over 40, it may be true. -
I've had a 1990 Mustang 5.0 LX 5speed that's been sitting because I got sick of constantly putting transmissions in it. Someone came along and wants to trade their 1980 Firebird Formula with a SBC 350 and TH350 trans. My friend has been trying to get this Firebird for years now and knows everything about it, apparently the engine got water logged and has been passed from person to person for 10 years and no one has ever spent the time to fix it so the chassis is in WAY better shape then my Mustang which has been beat on by who knows how many people. I just want to know value-wise, how good of an idea that is because I just want another Z so either way the Mustang/Firebird will be sold. I don't need no hard numbers because that would change depending on location but do you think I would get quite a bit more money for the Bird over the Stang?

I did a trial version of the Ground Defense Force rising sun (8 rays instead of 16) and I really liked it. I can't wait to repaint my car white so I can do it in red. The car is now red and I just used gray primer for the sun.
-
I could probably get a ride to Fayetteville. Do you info on the transmissions such as their year and condition?
-
Mountain Home AR, 72653. Would you be willing to ship it? What would the cost of shipping be? What year car was it from?
-
A friend of mine just broke my 4 speed so if anyone has a 5 speed from a 280Z(X) for a good price, I really need it. This is my only car and I've been wanting an overdrive.

I let a friend of mine drive my car to take his wife to Burger King. Well he brings it back saying I should check my tranny fluid and when I go to leave his house I find I have no 1st or 2nd and going into 3rd, 4th, or reverse just feels weird. I think he probably bent the shift fork but I'm hoping that if I bring it up here you can give me other things it could be, hopefully something where I don't have to drop the tranny out. I've never been this pissed off and I've never wanted to cry so hard before.
