  1. I just looked under mine 10 minutes ago. From what I can tell I think I could mount them right along the pinch weld. The only thing is I don't know where the best place to tie them into the framerails??? Here's what I am thinking... You can't really see from the picture but for the rear I was thinking of some way connnecting it to the rear suspension mount some how. And for the front running more tubing straight over to the frame rail and bolting/welding it up there. So what do you guys think?
  2. Ok has anybody built subframe connectors for their 240,260,280Z? I think I know how I am going to make them but I would like some ideas on how/where to connect them to the frame. Gimmie some ideas guys! Guy
  3. Hey mark, what size rims are you running? I am going to be using 17x7's with a 225/45/17. The reason I am asking is because you said you are running 235's. Just wondering if you are using 7" rims or 7.5" rims? Thanks, Guy
  4. Has anybody made subframe connectors for their 280ZX yet? If so how did you make them and with what kind of material? I am finishing up my engine install and I am concerned that my 400HP(at the crank) will be too much for my 280ZX frame. I also have T-Tops so that makes it even worse. I have installed a rollbar (SCCA type) and I am going to make the triangular strutbraces for the front struts. Since I really dont want to install a complete rollcage I figure subframe connectors are the next best thing! Also do you have any pictures? Thanks, Guy
  5. No you can't just follow the 78' directions. With the ZX's the firewall is 3" farther forward than the Z's. That all depends on how you mount the engine. If you use the MSA mounts ($225) and and LT1 like I did then no you don't need a special oil pan. I dont know if the LT1 oil pan is different from a regular SBC though. I am not sure if you will have a problem with this. I am using the LT1 and the distributor/optispark is on the front of the engine by the balancer. Greimann will be able to tell you this. I know he is using a regular distributor type ignition. With as much as I think you are talking about you might have some hood clearance problems with the MSA mounts. I know Greimann's engine is probably sitting a little lower than mine. I dont have to worry about this though because of the LT1 intake manifold being such a low profile intake. Yes your 5 speed will fit. If I can fit the T56(big ox of a tranny but its as tough as an OX!) up under there with NO modifications to the tunnel then you can fit that 5 speed up there. Oh and most guys if they are going with a 5 speed get the World Class T-5. Hope that helps, Guy
  6. Sure you can stop over but just let me know when so I can be here! Guy
  7. Yeah I don't know who told you that rotary motors were cheap but they are not right. For one they are very costly just to maintane just because all of the parts are not in high demand. A "1000HP" rotary would cost MUCHO BUUCO! Why do you think you need 1000HP to road race? If you are going to build a 1000HP Z car, why dont you just buy a SKYLINE GTR AWD (what ever Skyline you guys were talking about before in the post) That can be built to 1000HP and should be able to handle it a lot better than a Z. Besides it's all ready AWD. I think 1000HP is a bit over the top for road racing or a "street car" Guy
  8. Well I have it "running" but I have a few odds and ends that I need to buy before I can drive it. 1.) I need 2 knock sensor connectors for the harness(anybody wanna sell me some?) my buddy might sell me the 2 that he has on his harness from his LT1 off of his Buick Roadmaster since he is going to an aftermarket set up, but I wont know for about 2 weeks. SO I WILL TAKE THEM OFF YOUR HANDS IF YOU WANT TO SELL ME SOME! 2.) I need to go back to GM and get the right VSS wire connector for the tranny since they gave me one for a wheel speed sensor! 3.) I need to find out what flange to get for my R200 so I can get my driveshaft made this week. 4.) I am going to try to get my exhaust done next week! 5.) And I need to come up with a better lower radiator hose cause the one I have on there now isn't going to work! (I think I might have a plan for this but its not for sure yet) So right now I am shooting for April 28th! 8) I really really need those knock sensor connectors though cause there is no way that I am paying GM $62.xx a piece for them!!!! Don't worry Tim I am busting my nuts to get this done (driveable) before May! Guy
  9. Did you just put the new clutch in? Cause when I got my engine the clutch was "frozen" as in rusted tight. No matter how hard I pushed it wouldn't dissengauge the clutch. Once I put the new clutch, throw out bearing and new pilot bearing in it worked fine! This would not be your problem though if just did the clutch. Guy
  10. You can buy a bender at Fleet Farm for pretty cheap. I can't remember the cost exactly. Don't let the cost of the bender be the deciding facting in doing the job right the first time. Remember the old saying..."there is never enough time($$$) to do it righ the first time but there is alwasy time($$$) to do it twice" Don't do it wrong the first time because you were to "cheap" to buy a bender! Guy
  11. All of the questions you just asked can easily be answered through the use of the search function. Once you have done that then ask your specific questions you don't quite understand. Guy
  12. I am also curious on how you plan to make and AWD Z with the T56??? I think what everyone is trying to say is "yeah it would be cool to see a 1000+HP Z but I don't think the car itself was ment for that kind of HP/TQ" I think this is kind of like the Viper Engine deal, it would be cool but the car just couldn't handle like the Viper or be able to take the abuse. But if you got the $$$$$$$$$$ then go for it! Guy
  13. Ok first of all what does the R230 have to do with switching transmissions? And did some one tell you can use the original tranny with the V8? I don't think that its possible to use the Nissan tranny with a V8(chevy,ford,mopar,etc) with out a specail bellhousing adapter(which noone probably makes). It just kinda sounds like you think that you can use the original tranny. ANYTHING is possible! I am not a 300ZX owner or guru but I can't imagine why it wouldn't be possible. You might have to move the engine forward or backward but I think it should be possible! Guy
  14. Yeah that T56 isn't going to hold up long with 1000+HP . I "think" the Viper T56 is rated to like 500HP but the Camaro/Firebird/Vette is only rated to like 450 in the 94+ models. You better have that tranny "built up" to handle that HP! Guy
  15. Oh don't worry I have documented most of it. I just haven't gotten around to putting it on my site yet. I have just been too busy with the car to do it! I have a lot more pictures that aren't on the site yet but are going to be. Guy
  16. Doesn't that figure? 96+ is were all the good stuff is! I will just get some of those magnets for my pan instead! Hey Mudge you got one of those Oil Level Sensors just laying around? I need one but it doesn't have to work. I just need to plug the hole in the oil pan! They are $46.xx from GM and no body else has them! I really don't want to buy one if I don't have too! Thanks, Guy
  17. Yeah I knew a guy that went to Wyomtech and he is now working in a little independent shop making like $10 per hour. It really is what you make of it. This guy was just a complete loser in H.S. and now all he does is work to pay for weed! When I graduateed H.S. almost 3 years ago, I originally wanted to go into computer programming. Well I started the semester and I just could stand to go to class because I was nothing like those computer guys. No offense to any of the computer programmers on this board but my god they(the ones I went to school with) though they knew everything! Maybe I just got stuck with a bunch of know it all's but I just couldn't stand it. My point being is that you should first pick something that you know you love to do because your going to be doing it for 40+ hours a week for 20+ years! Now I am going to Fox Valley Technical College for a Associated Degree in Automotive Technology. I personally think the school is great! All of my teachers are really cool(not the general education ones) and I actually love going to school. I will be graduateing in May, 2nd in the class(#1 in the class can remember EVERYTHING , its really quite unreal! LOL)and I am hopefully going to be getting a job at our local Corvette "dealer"(they only work on Corvettes, new and old)! I know personally that it doesnt really matter which school you go to, just make sure that while your there that you make the most of yourself. Then its up to you to get the dream job you've always wanted! Just my $.02 Guy
  18. Thanks for all the great advise Grumpy! Should I just leave those magnets in the pan "forever"? Or should I take them out after x,xxx miles? Thanks, Guy
  19. LMAO! I have to say that I too can't stand going over to ZCAR.COM anymore because of crap like that. I know when I asked about a V-8 conversion for my 280ZX I practically got a new a$$ ripped into me! I have'nt been over there since then. I don't care for the people over there. I think everyone should have their own opinion on Z cars and if mines not the same as yours there is no reason to give a guy crap(not too much anyways! ) Yeah 13's at 80mph does sound funky? Guy
  20. Well I got my engine running so now I need to know how to break it in? I don't have and exhaust on it or a driveshaft but I should have those taken care of this week or next week. So what do I need to do to break my engine in properly? Its a LT1 350 with hypers and plasma moly rings. Thanks, Guy
  21. Yeah I know sorry about the video not working for some of you guys. I tried to switch it over to MPEG but I didn't have anything to do that If you have QUICK TIME it will work. Yeah I about crapped my pants when it started! Ya gotta love no exhaust on a Chevy V8! Yeah I coudn't sleep last night and I had to keep coming on the computer to play the video! Just need to finish the rest of the wiring this weekend so that I can get an exhaust system next week and get my driveshaft made! Guy
  22. You should get the relay kit that I got from Jegs. You can vary the on temp from 160- 210 degrees F. It is a Perma-Cool product, and here's the part #771-18907. You can also get a second relay to hook up to so that it controls 2 fans(or in my case the fan and the water pump). Although you can only set one temp. The nice thing about this is that even with the key off the fan and pump will run until it goes below whatever temp I set it at! That's the part I like most about it. It is a bit pricey for the 2 relay system but it is worth it in my opinion...$59.99 for the kit and one relay, and if you want to run another fan or pump it's $15.99 for a 30 AMP relay that goes with the first kit. I think you should invest in something like this, so that your pump & fans will run even if the car is off. Guy
  23. To me it sounds like you have plenty of cooling power. Are you sure your gauge is accurate? Also I assume your fan for the radiator is electric, what kind is it? Guy
  24. I GOT MY ENGINE RUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who's da man?!!! LOL I am like the happiest guy alive right now! After 6 months of busting my nuts I finally have a running car! I still need the exhaust & a drive-shaft to get it to move but that's it! Then its time to paint the rest of it. I know a lot of you want to see my car fully painted (BRAD D)! Just wanted to say that all of you guys have been really really helpful, expecially Greimann, Tim240Z, and Mudge! I don't think I could have figured out the wiring parts of the 280ZX to Chevy with out the help of you Greimann and the LT1 stuff goes to Tim240Z and Mudge! You three guys rock (not that the rest of the members weren't helpful, but they helped the most )!! Well here's the video....... http://www.datsun-280zx-lt1.com/Big_Pictures/OH_BABY.mov Guy
