  1. My 1980 NA ZX came with the 14x6 Iron Cross rims I was thinking once the rest of my car is done I might get 2 rims for the rear of the car so I can get some 8" or 9" rims(with the help of proper back spacing!) Just so I can have "some" meat back there! I have no idea what to look for in a drag rim and tire set up though. All I know is to get a nice light weight tire. As for going to Great Lakes...I think I have to work that weekend . If I dont I might just head on over! That would be great! Guy
  2. Well WIR is not as fancey as the track in that picture! That's ok though just as long as there is a light to say go and a clock that says how fast you made it to the other end of the track! Thats all I need to be happy! So how fast should I run with a 3000lbs (280ZX I am just assuming it weighs about that, but I think its a little less isnt it?) and about 350ish RWHP? Not sure about my torque cause I havent put it on the dyno yet! Also what kind of tires and rims should I get for drag racing at the track? Cause I dont think my 17x7's are going to be too good for the traction department! Thanks, Guy
  3. Yeah but he's not talking about the static compression ratio(I think thats what its called) that you guys are talking about with 10:1 and 9.3:1. Dynamic Compression ration is complety different. Guy
  4. Who knows when it will be painted? I know it will be done before the end of July but money is really tight right now so I dont know. I have the paint I just dont have the ground effects, so I cant paint the car without the ground effects. You know how it is, your almost there but not quite! Oh well it wouldnt be fun building a car if everything went right the first time! lol Guy
  5. Where was this World of Wheels Show held?(what town) By the way I love your green paint. Cant wait to see all of my car done in the House of Kolor paint! Keep us posted! Guy
  6. Well I went the drag races at Wisconsin Interanational Race Way tonight. It was my first time to see live drag races! It was awsome!!!!!!!! I can't wait till my car is done. I am shooting for mid 12's. I think after seeing all those Camaros with LT1's in them run high 13's low 14's, I should be good for high 12's atleast. There was also 3 modified snowmobiles down there. They ran high 9's at like 135-140mph!! Now I wish I would have kept my sled(I sold it last year because we dont get much snow anymore)!! I would have modified my sled for that! Then there was a car down there that was runing 24's, yeah thats right 24 seconds! It was an old beater of a car. It was kind of funny watching them race that car because they were doing dial-in's and he was racing like 12-13 second cars so he would have a 10 second head start! Then there was a Ford Prob with a really really bad driver. Everytime he went to shift from 1st to 2nd he would miss 2nd and then the same with 3rd. It was really pathetic cause he did it all 4 times he lined up to race. Made me laugh though. Then a guy I know with a 94' Z28 was running and his first run was a 14.3, second run 14.7 and the last one I saw was a 14.2. So I asked him why he was so slow and he said his first run was a 13.3. So I said lets see the paper. Then he started to feel around in his pocket "looking" for the slip but guess what he coundn't find it! Yeah right so he runs three 14's and one low 13? I doubt it. This guy is a big talker and that just proves it! Anyways, I just can't wait to get down there with my car! Guy
  7. The answer to all of those questions can easily be found with the search function. However your question about the insurance issue is one that I have been wondering about too! So can someone shine some light on that one? Guy

    I blew it

Nah but my step dad does. I'm not much of a air plane person. My step dad tried to get me to go into air planes(aircraft inspector job) but I am way more interested in cars! He's a air plane freak! LOL I guess everybody has there favorites. Mine just happens to be cars! Guy
  9. Yeah use the search function first then ask the questions. Actually is like putting a regular SBC in a 240Z only better because you dont have to worry about moving the hood latch because of the distributor being mounted on the front of the engine and you dont have worry about hood clearance because of the low profile intake. And I think you are talking about the LT4 not the LT1 in the 96' Vettes. Or was that only the Grand Sport Vettes? Anyway, they are the same engine but the LT4 just has a larger cam(barley), bigger injectors(barley), bigger intake runners, and better heads. The best part about the engine is that its four bolt mains. I am doing a LT1 swap in my 80' 280ZX so a 240Z would be much "easier" to do because of the larger engine bay. There is plenty of info on the LT1/LT4 swaps and now people are even doing the LS1/LS6 swaps! Now the LS1 requires much more fabrication and a lot more $$$! Guy P.S. Welcome aboard! Oh and you should read the top post in this forum too, theres lots of beginner questions that can be answered there.
  10. Can't we all just get along? LOL! Hey there is no doubt about it Supras(turbos) are awesome! I could care less if they run full boost all the time or not they are still fast and handle great(assuming the handling part cause I have never driven one). I thought we were picking on the crappy Hondas? I don't care how fast they run, I just can't stand the sound those little fart pipes make!! And those stupid WINGS! I just cant handle all the ricers around my area! Their every where! Guy
  11. I emailed the guy last night to ask him why they are custom rims and he said "I made a mistake when i had them listed. They are in fact Factory Rims, but they have been customized by american racing. They were sent to ARE to be painted and Clear Coated. So the listing is partialy correct." Partialy correct? They're not custom rims, all theyare is stripped and ready to paint! How is that custom? There is no way he's going to get what hes asking for these. If he does then I am listing my "custom" rims for sale too! Guy
  12. "I see said the blind man!" LOL J/K! Yeah I might try LT1tech.com Guy
  13. Is there anywy of telling a NA Supra from a Turbo Supra from the body? Or should I just look for the white on the inside of the exhaust tip?(what does that white mean?) Cause theres a guy in a newer red Supra running around town here and I just want to know if I should mess with him or leave him alone when my car is ready to go? He's an old(like 55-60) guy though so he probably wont race(I'm only 20). Oh an I go to school with a guy who put a B18?(does that sound right?) in his 90' CRX. It only runs low 14's with ALL of the interior out of it. He claims that he is building a 500-700HP(depending on how much boost he runs) engine, 1.6 L turbo set up, for it and that it should be done within the next year and ready to go! YEAH RIGHT! Is that even possible out of 1.6 L? I think 300-350HP would be the max that the engine it self could hold not to mention the rest of the car. Guy
  14. Are you kidding? 800HP is not too big of a deal? :malebitchslap: (sorry had to bring you back into reality! LOL) I am begining to wonder if my 400HP engine is going to be "too" much for my skill level at the moment. The closest I've ever came to driving a 400 HP car was when I drove a 2001 Camaro SS 100 yards into the shop at my school! LOL That car "only" has 325 HP and I could feel it all when I drove it those 100 yards. Every time I tapped the gas pedal my head shot back into the seat! Plus that car out weights my car by a good 500lbs+(right Mudge?). I know for me 400 HP will be more than enough for quite a while! Guy
  15. Its not a matter of if I want to turn it off but since its not in my wiring harness there is no way to turn it off when I want to back up. I can push it in to reverse but its really hard to do because of this solenoid. I just want to be able to turn it off when I want to back up thats all. If I wire it up to ignition voltage and ground the other side and use a manual switch(locate it in the cabin of the car) then i could control it. But I was just wondering if it will last long like this. How much voltage does it take to turn this on and off normally? Get what I'm saying now? Guy
  16. Oh yeah I forgot to write about that in my first post! Yeah another dumb ebay seller! Guy
  17. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2413857581&category=33748 I didnt know that I had "Custom" rims on my car before! LOL I doubt this guy even owns a 280ZX or a Z for that matter. Cause if he did he would know these arent custom rims. What makes these different from the other stock wheels on the 280ZX's? Guy
  18. Actually I just did a report on the Mustang Vs. Camaro(for my Written Comm. class). This was from a Mustang History site. It's talking about the 1983 model year here... "A revised version of the turbocharged 2.3-liter SOHC four returned to the lineup, this time with electronic fuel injection that did a wonderful job of tempering turbo lag and increasing engine longevity. But its 142-horsepower output didn't seem all that impressive, especially since the 5.0-liter HO V8 now sported a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 175 horsepower." Here they are talking about the SVO 1984 version of the 2.3 Turbo... "With its own unique appearance (single square headlamps in a grille-free front end, plus a unique dual-plane rear spoiler), the SVO was powered by an intercooled version of the turbocharged 2.3-liter four rated at an impressive 175 horsepower. " Here they are talking about the SVO 1986 version of the 2.3L Turbo... "The SVO Mustang's turbo four was recalibrated and its output was also 200 horsepower" Here's the site where I got all this information from...http://edmunds.nytimes.com/reviews/generations/articles/93320/article.html Hope that helps! Guy
  19. Ok maybe I dont have it. I think I might have looked under the 96' model year? Whoops! Cause I looked it up again on ALLDATA under 93' and its not there! Now how can I deal with my Reverse-Lock Out Solenoid? Guy
  20. I didnt say I didnt have a skip shift. I am pretty sure I do? I just dont have it in my wiring harness. So the computer isnt involved in when in comes on and when it goes off. As for the reverse lock out, I also dont have that incorperated into my harness. I just want to know if I can wire the reverse lock out to a switch and turn it on and off when ever I want? Guy

    I blew it

Hey Mat73GNZ, what year of 172 do you have? My step dad has a 1949 172. We also have an Aeronka(sp?) Defender, not sure what year that is. You wouldnt happen to know Terry Moneith(Step Dad) would you? He also works at Air Wisconsin. Guy
  22. Did you get this car really cheap or something? If you hate the body as much as you say you do then why would you have bought it? I agree with the other guys in the fact that with some TLC to the body and paint it would look pretty cool! As for the interio......Ewwwwwwwww that is UGLY! I would have to do something about that. But this is all up to you! Guy
  23. Well the skip shift is not in my harness to the computer. So programming it out wont really help. Will my 2 suggestions for the reverse lock out and skip shift work? Guy
  24. Well I am currently looking for a computer(laptop) to tune my car. I was just wondering about some other things about Tunercat... Can I program out the SKIPSHIFT? Well I dont know how much that will help since my wiring harness doesnt have the skipshift leads on it. I am thinking of just wiring Ignition B+ to it and turning it on whenever the car is on. That would work right? Also I was wondering about my Reverse Lock-Out solenoid...How can I get that thing to come off? I was thinking of wiring it to a (Ignition)B+ lead and a switch so that I could turn the solenoid on/off when ever I want. So I could leave it on whenever driving around but hit the switch whenever I wan to back up. This way it would stop me from hitting reverse at say 60mph? Guy
