    towing

Yes it does hurt it! Theoretically you should take out the driveshaft if you are going to tow it. It has something to do with no oil cerculation in the tranny. I can't remeber exactly what it was but it was something along those lines. On the other hand I have never heard of anybody hurting theyre tranny when towing but maybe that's just luck of the draw? I do no that it does hurt it though! And this is not just the ZX's is all trannies. Guy

    Sorry posted twice!
  3. I think someone got a little gauge happy! LOL Just kidding! They look very nice! Nice Job Guy
  4. Well my machinist told me that the KB pistons require file fit rings so I guess I would get the .035's then huh! I am going to ask him on monday just to make sure though. I really hate ordering the wrong parts! Thanks for the help! Guy
  5. I am ordering my pistons today and I need to know what size of rings(.005, .035, .045, .065?) to use? I am using KB Hypers / 4.030, in my 93 LT1. The rings size is 5/64, 5/64, 3/16. Oh yeah and I am using Speed-Pro rings. Heres what I need to know.... Std. or Low tension rings??? Chrome or Plasma molly top ring? Here's the link to the page for ring selection.... http://www.flatlanderracing.com/pringschevy8.html Thanks, Guy
  6. I hope you have a full welded in rollcage on your list! Those motors put up some serious HP/TQ #'s!!! Otherwise I say go for it! Should be one heck of a ride when you are done! Just buy lots of extra underwear cause you are going to be changing them often! LOL Guy
  7. I have always heard that 3-7K per foot is acceptable. I don't know about performance wires though? Guy
  8. I replaced my entire suspension this summer with new Tokico struts and springs, MSA sway bars, and Poly bushings all the way around. The struts, springs, and sway bars were a cake walk but those bushings were A MAJOR PITA! If you are going to do this make sure you dont need to drive your car for like a week! As for my ride quality...yeah its a little stiff but it handles like it's on rails! Can't wait to get my new 17x7 rims on! Guy
  9. Ok I am in a Beat the Heat program at Fox Valley Tech and we are building up a 1986 Trans Am with the following... Big Block 454,.030+,complete roller valve train, 11:1 CR, full length headers, bigger vlaves,+700 lift cam...ladder bar suspension with 4.11:1 rear end,26" tires, full roll cage and a built up Turbo 350 Tranny! The engine will put out about 650-750HP! So we are going to be running 10's for sure. We can only run a 10.00 on Beat the Heat nights though because of insurance reasons, however on a regular night at the track we can run as fast as we can an use full racing slicks on the car! Anyways.... Here's the story... So we were sitting there talking about how we were going to build up this Turbo 350 and this guy name Brian Smith comes over by us. He is a 40 year old Honda CRX drive'n, mr. know-it-all! Nobody can stand him because all he does is bench race. Well he started in with he BS tonight that's for sure! He said he was going to smoke our car with his little CRX and thats when we started to rip him a new one! I asked him how he planned on doing that? He said with a, now I hope you have your boots on right now, 500-700HP(depending on how much boost he runs) 1.6Liter honda motor using 21 lbs of boost! I dont know much about turbos but I wouldnt think that 21 lbs of boost on a 1.6 liter would put out that much HP?! We then procceded to ask he how he planned on keeping that motor together..."well you see I am going to use all forged parts, cross drill the block, post the cylinders, blah blah blah, yada yada yada! Basically he as just talking a lotta smack! Then we asked him why speed thousands and thousand of dollars on a crappy 1.6L for "500-700HP"(<----yeah right!) when you gan get that from a big block easy? "well I really like the challenge, blah blah blah, yada yada yada" All this guy ever does is bench race. Last time he was at the track with this CRX he ran like a 14.8. So he now he is just bragging up this POS honda crap that he doesn't even have! I really hate guys like him. I then asked him when this was all going to happen and he said "well all I really have to buy is the rods and pistons." So I said we'll see it at the track then? And he said "well it might be ready this year but I don't know for sure" Yeah that figures! I can talk smack too but I dont because all it does is make you look like an ASS when you can back it up! That's why I don't talk about my car much, it's not done so I got nothin to back up all the smack!!! Sorry had to vent!!!!!!! Guy
  10. Here's my favorite.... The SS Concept Car...LS6 Power Plant!!!! Here's the new GTO...LS1 Powered! Looks like a Cavalier but on steroids! LOL How about this engine in a Z? It's for the Indy cars! You gotta love the Austin Martins! 8) I have more but I just don't know which ones you guys want to see? Let me know and I will see if I have it! Guy
  11. First of all welcome aboard! Next of all you need to use the search function. It has pages apon pages of infomation concering the 350/700R4 swap. MSA(Motorsport Auto / [/url]www.zcarparts.comhttp://) sells the motor mounts and tranny mount for $225. You can also order other parts from their catalog for the swap but most guys fabricate their parts along the way. The basic 350/700R4 swap is a very staight forward swap with the help of the JTR Book(Jaguars That Run) I don't have the website off hand but use the search function and you will find it very easily. Someone else will probably chime in a few minutes and have it! Welcome aboard! Guy
  12. Ok I don't mean to burst your bubble but that radar readout is not from your car! I have had that pic on my computer for like 2 years. You wish man! LOL Guy
  13. DCarrow, I'm not the one looking to change my oil. Heck I don't even have my motor in yet! Ferd/289 is the one wondering! LOL Yes I would recommend synthenic also though. Guy

    a strong rearend

The R200 or R230 will hold quite nicely but will require some modifications to install either one of them. The R230 will require more mods thought(I think so anyways). Darius(member on here) had a 600+HP Supercharged LT1 in his 240Z and I think he had a R230 in his. Search for the R230 if the search functionis now working and see what you can find! Guy
  15. Ok why do you want to change the recommened fluid to begine with? I know some of the new manual trannies(T56 with the LS1's) use ATF but that is what the factory recommends. I wouldn't change over to ATF unless the manufacture recommends it. There is a reason that they want you to use gear oil and not ATF. Guy
  16. Actually you might have to rebuild the carbs! All of the seals in them are probably dry as a bone! I remember when I bought a 1979 Toyota Pick up 2 years ago just as a beater to run around in the woods with, I had to rebuild the carb because the truck had been sitting so long that the gaskets were all dried out and wouldn't seal. It was a learing experience thats for sure! Anyways good luck with the car! Guy
  17. Ok well I went and talked to my machinist tonight and he said there is no point for me to use floating pins because I dont need it. So I am going with the PM rods and I am going to use KB Hypers with 10.9:1 compression. $185 for balancing complete rotating assembly $90 to turn the crank $48 to press in the pins to the rods Does this sound like a fair price? I don't really care if it is cause they are the best machine shop in the area! Quality not Cost in this case! When I was in there talking to the owner he asked me if I lived near by because he wanted to know if I wanted a job there! It was pretty cool! But since I currently live about 35 miles away he said he was looking for someone local. That's ok though cause I cant afford to move right now! Too many car parts to buy! O well! Guy
  18. I think NAPA and Bumper to Bumper sells grade * bolts. I can't remember but one of those places here in my town does. Guy
  19. That's a custom job right there! You might be able to get the front air damn from MSA and possibly the flares. But those side vents and tail lights are custom. Deffinetly lots of time at the body shop! Sorry! Guy
  20. Man-O-Man! Seeing that done to that Trans AM just makes me want to cry! And what is up with all the Ram Air hoods? I doubt any of those cars(execpt Trans AM) actually has ram air! They all deserve-------> & some of this too----------> Bunch of DOMESTIC RICE! Guy
  21. Hey I am doing the gauges in my car right now! I have a 1980 280ZX and I am using a 93 Chevy LT1 & T56. That is the main reason I am going with new gauges. Since my tranny didnt have a speedometer gear I am using all electronic gauges. It cost about $450 for a Speedo, Tach, Oil Pres, Water Temp, and Volt meter. These are Autometer Phantom Series gauges. I am sticking with my fuel gauge because Autometer doesnt make a fuel gauge that is accurate for Nissan's. I would have to modify the sender in the tank if I want my fuel gauge to be accurate. Here's the link to it... http://www.hybridz.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=001079 Guy
  22. Yeah I already bought the Center Force clutch set. I haven't heard of any problems with them? As for overkill...I don't think it hurts to put in stronger parts even if they are not needed. If I am not satisfied with the power of my car I will change some components(cam and springs) next winter when the car is in storage. I am just trying to get as many quality parts now as I can. Guy
