First Drive Video ClarkSpeed Synlube Mikelly
80LS1T replied to v80z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I was going to ask if that diff was welded! churp, churp, churp around the corner.....LOL Looks nice and lots of progress since the last video! Guy -
This one will probably run you about $3000ish after shipping.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-Camaro-Trans-Am-Lt1-Engine-w-6-Spd-Transmission-80k_W0QQitemZ8034077378QQcategoryZ33615QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem "Fparts" has a good rep too.

Dont bother with an LT4 unless you just want to say "yeah I have an LT4". You dont get that much more motor for the dollar when compared to an LT1. $1500 for just a long is pretty high if you dont get the wiring and PCM. You can usually pick up a LT1/T56 combo for like $2500 with all the wirng and PCM. Guy

Yeah I dont know about the fan mounting either. I dont like the idea of the fan moving around causing those bolts to rub on the core. Running bolts through the core support was probably not the best idea. Ive seen plastic zip tie things used before but not bolts. Otherwise it looks like your making progress! Guy

anyone have these brake rotors?
80LS1T replied to b__sosick's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Make sure that they are a 4 lug rotor for your 280ZX. The ones in the pic are a 5 lug rotor. Personally I wouldn't "waste" money on slotted rotors unless the rotor itself were bigger. Your better off saving your money for a big brake kit. You can buy the Arizona big brake kit for $750 and that comes with new 12.2" rotors, new 4 piston Wilwood calipers, and SS lines. Money much better spent on better brakes if you ask me. You will probably not notice any significant difference in braking with those rotors. If you want better braking with the stock equipment get better pads. Modern Motorsports sell pretty nice pads from what I have heard and they arent too pricey either. Thats just IMHO.... Guy -
Oh by all means I think its awesome! I was just stating that its really only functional at very high speeds. It will still serve as a cold air intake though which is always good. I wanted to do the same thing but I didnt want to cut up my radiator support because everyone said that its a very important part of the structure of the car. I could have done what you did and just at a new support after it was done but I guess I just got lazy.

She didnt really like any of the other Mazda's on the lot(including the Miata). I was trying to talk to her about the G35 tonight but she was having a little too much fun because its her 50th B-Day today so she really wasnt paying attention. My stepdad likes the new Civics and the Accord but I for one would rather see her in something a little more fun to drive. Guy

Now dont quote me on this but I think ram air only has an effect on engine performance on speeds close to or above 100MPH...thats what I have heard/read. Anyone know for sure? Guy
-
Yeah she always brings up her story about how she had a MGB convertible and how much fun it was to drive. She always tells me that she got it up too +100mph on the highway. Now a days though she doesn't want to know how fast her car goes but she does enjoy nice rides through the local winding roads. She has been driving around in a 94' Olds 88 for the past few years and now I think she wants something that's more fun to drive. She keeps talking about that stupid Toyota Hybrid though! I think deep down though she wants a fun car to drive that gets ok mileage. The RX8 only gets 20mpg if your babying it! She needs something that will get mid to high 20's at least on the highways. The G35 seems to fit that bill! No to mention is like a luxury sports car! I am going to see her tomorrow(its her B-Day) and I will be trying to get her to at least look at/test drive the G35. She doesn't really want to spend $35K on a car but I figure we can find a used one for under $30K pretty easy. I really wanted that RX8 to be in the family but it was just too impractical for her. I was having dreams of it 10 years from now...blow drivetrain....."oh here you go Guy you can have my old car"...."ok mom" ......now what V8 can I stuff in there.... Guy
-
I called her today and told her about the G35 but she has only seen a pic of the sedan. I like it(coupe), it looks like a "brother" of the 350Z. Its just has more creature comforts and a backseat! Thats what my mom needs! Now you would think if I can talk her into an RX8 I could talk her into the G35! Guy

Brake problem - Can't get air out of system
80LS1T replied to Gavin's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Like stated above, are you sure you put the bleeders on the new calipers pointing up? Always check the obvious! Pedal height is adjusted from the rear brake adjustment. I would adjust the rear brakes up, bleed the master, bleed the right rear, bleed the left rear, bleed the right front, and then bleed the left front. If that doesnt fix it then you have a part thats not working correctly. Probably your master... Guy -
Well I for one am glad its a repost, I missed the first time it was posted! Absolutly beautiful! Guy

Yeah I talked to my mom last night about all the "downfalls" of it and she isnt going to get it now. It would be too much work for a daily driver for her. She's not sure what she wants now. I told her to take a ride in a 350Z but she said she doent like it because it doesnt have a backseat. Now she's swinging back towards the Toyota Hybrid car.... Guy
-
Yeah I've been reading online at www.rx8club.com and have basically found all the points that you guys have said. I too am concerned with the reliability and upkeep of a car like this. The car was a blast to drive but I have a feeling that shes going to get it and then realize how much effort it takes to upkeep it. I am going to try an talk her out of it and see what else is out there... She doesnt like the WRX, neither do I for that matter. I think its just plain ol' ugly! LOL Maybe I can talk her into taking a ride in a 350Z.....

Yeah my mom called me up today and said that she wanted me to come with her to look at the Mazda 3's. So I went with her to the dealership. Once there she quickly realized that the Mazda 3 wasnt "as good looking as it was in the pictures". Then she saw the Mazda 6's and kinda liked them. I jokingly told her she should get the RX8. She looked at it and said "yeah I really like the looks of it but I really dont need a sports car..." So we test drove the 6 but she didnt really like it. When we got back I said we should just drive the RX8 just for the fun of it.... well about 5 minutes down the road and she was in love with it! I couldnt believe it! I got to drive it too and although the HP/TQ wasnt like a V8 but it was deffinetly fun to drive and not to mention its absolutly a stunning car to look at! I am doing some research from actual owners over on RX8club.com but at this point I think its going to take a mircale for her not to buy it! She just loves it! I'll be posting pics if she does buy it! Guy

LMAO! That was great! "slipped out of gear" yeah you know how those trannys just jump right out of gear! Yeah Im betting that if that guy sent his ticket in and said that he would like to fight it, that the cop wouldnt show up for fear of looking like a moron!

With modern A/C you have a few compents that the old stuff didnt have. New stuff has a pressure sensor on the high side to make sure the pressure doesnt get too high and blow a hose. New stuff has a temp sensor stuck in the fins on the evaporator so that can tell the computer to shut off the compressor if the evaporator temp drops below a specific temp, usually close to freezing. This way the evaporator doesnt freeze up on the outside due to condensation forming on it from the temp change. New stuff also tells the PCM to bump the idle up when the A/C is on and to turn the radiator fan even if the engine is cold. I dont know what you have for an engine in your car but if I personally was going to install A/C in my LT1 powered 280ZX, I would use the PCM to control the compressor and idle. I think you could get away with a pressure switch that would turn off the compressor once the high side pressure got to a certain PSI. I dont know how you would stop the evaporator from freezing up though. Maybe someone makes a temp sensor switch that you could use in the same way as the pressure switch? Guy

Well I dont know about the JTR set up but in my 280ZX with the MSA mounts I can pull the tranny out in about 30 minutes and put it back in in about 45 minutes. I seperate teh tranny from teh bell housing and then remove the bell housing after the tranny is out. How long do you have to wait to get a clutch and flywheel? I would just wait and put it in together because it will be the easiest. Guy

Man I had to read that twice to get all of it! LOL:lmao:

Thank God! I thought we had another crazy person putting a carb on an LSx engine! Looks like a very sweet project to say the least. I agree with Davy' date=' [b']KEEP US UPDATED[/b] on the proggress:twisted: ! Guy

First off proof read your posts... Second, every question you've asked has been asked a million times. Obviously you did not read the site rules or any of the "stickies" at the top of the V8 forum or you would already know the answers to your questions. Please do a search then ask specific questions that pertain to your swap.

lt1 balanced flywheel, but what if swaping from a4?
80LS1T replied to nazar's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I've got the LT4 Hotcam kit in my LT1 too. I like it but I think Im going to go a little bigger and more specific to my heads flow charactistics if I dont get the results I want at the track(1/4 mile). Im hoping for low 12's with drag radials. The LT4 HC is a good street cam. A lot of guys knock it because its not big enough but if you want a little more power and a good idle this is the cam. Plus its pretty cheap! Guy -

80LS1T replied to nazar's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Yeah that will get you close but not perfect like balancing the whole assembley together. Guy -
Its a carb'd LS1! I dont really care what anyone says, putting a carb on LS1/LS2/LS6 is DUMB! Yeah I know you save weight with the alluminum block and the heads are great but why sacrfice the full potential of the motor with a carb? What class would that thing be in anyways? Guy
