Yeah the LS1 is deffinetly a great motor but it is also a very pricey motor right now. The cost of them is coming down but for a low miles LS1 motor dont be shocked to pay $3,000+! The initial cost of the LS1 sucks but once you have it, its easy to get power out of them. I have heard of guys putting a bigger cam, some headers and an exhaust system and they are running 450HP+ (Now those are only hear says so dont quote me on that! ) So if you got the $$$ then I say get the LS1! You wont be sorry! Now the LT1 is also a great motor. I have one in my 280ZX(I think I am the only one with a LT1 in a 280ZX? Heck I dont think anyone has an LS1 in a 280ZX either??) and I am very happy with it. It is much like the old SBC but it has a lot of things that make it much better....EFI, reverse flow cooling(cool the heads first, which allows it to run 10.5:1 compression in stock form), alluminum heads(expect B-Body cars), the distributor is in front on top of the timing chain cover which allows you to leave the hood latch where it is! The LT1 also costs much less to buy than the LS1. I bought mine with a T56 tranny almost 2 years ago for $2200. Granted my motor had 92,xxx miles on it but I planned on rebuilding it anyways so that didnt really matter to me. The cost of parts is also considerably less than the LS1 because it is no longer the latest and greatest "SBC"(yes I know the LS1 is not really considered a SBC!) Hope that helps some!

Well after much frustration I finally got a video to upload to my site. It is in "RealMovie" format so that kind sucks but it was the only way I could keep the file size down to 5MB. The picture size is also pretty small which really sucks. I am going to try to find out how I can upload larger files. I might have to upgrade my site? "Presenting..The 80LT1" Oh and this was my first "video" so no making fun of the editing! I only took about 2 minutes of video the rest is pictures(another 1 minute or so). Guy

Yeah after trying to upload my 16MB movie to my webpage twice last night I come to find out that I can only uplaod 5MB at a time! Yeah and I bought extra disk space on my page so that I could upload movies! So where is a good place to host these movies? Guy

Well I got it working.....finally! Right now I am uploading my movie to my website's database. With my "super high speed" 56K connection it should be done loading by like Wednesday! ....ok maybe not that long but I really need to move into town just so I can have a cable modem connection! I used my GF's computer at her college (I think its like T1 connection?) and boy oh boy is that fast! I down loaded a 26 MB movie in under a minute! Here I am trying to upload a 16MB movie and its going on like an hour! So maybe sometime soon I will post the movie... Thanks for all the help though guys! Guy

Well I went into Best Buy today and asked what I needed and sure enough I needed more hardware and software. So now I have a firewire card in my computer and the software that goes along with it. I bought the "Pinnacle Studio Version 8" kit. I am in the process of installing it right now actually. I will(try to ) post a video of my car if I get this working tonight! Guy

Well me and my girlfriend(future wife..... ) just bought a new camcorder for our Christmas presents to each other. We bought a mid-grade Samsung SDC27 Digital Video Camcorder. Well I have been trying all night go load a video onto the computer but I dont think I have the software to do it? I loaded in the new driver for the camcorder but when I plug in the USB cable nothing happens? So do I need some special softare to get the video off the camcorder? I am going in tommorow to ask what I need or what I need to do to get this to work! Any help is appreciated! Guy

Man-O-Man Tim there really is no expense spared for your car is there?! I really need to finish my 280ZX so that I can get a 240/260/280Z cause you guys have all these really nice upgrades that the ZX does not have! However my next project will be more like a 5+ year project not a 1 1/2 year project. I dont know what Im going to do once its done? I guess I will have to go Mustang hunting! Guy
-
Yeah your 260 2+2 look sweeeeeeeeeeeeet with the rims on it! What kind of rim is that? They look a lot like my 17" Konig Monsoons but a little bit different. Guy

Well I work at a Dodge dealer ship as a service Tech and we have been having problems with the new 1500 Rams warping rotors. When its under 12K miles we dont even think about "cutting" the rotors because its under warrenty so why should we waste time cutting rotors when Chrystler will pay for new ones? Besides Chrystler wants the rotors back so that they can figure out how to correct the problem. We do not replace the pads however, we just scuff them up and reuse them as long as they are still in good condition. Now about being in warrenty or not in warrenty.....If you come in with under 12K miles with a pulsation in the pedal and the tech determines that the front rotors are the cause...they should automatically replace the rotors for sure!. Then they should make sure that the caliper bolts are good and lubricated and move nice and smooth. This is what we do at my dealership and it should be done at every other dealership with out a question! Now if it comes back in after 12K then yes you will have to pay for the rotors to be cut(however if they've been cut once before I really doubt that they will be able to cut them again. I would ask to see some specs and then ask them to measure the rotors with you watching). Now as far as the technican is concerned, he would much rather put new rotors on because he will get paid the same for "cutting" the rotors or just putting new ones on, atleast at the shop I work at(we get 1.2 hours @ a reduced maintanece rate for doing front brakes on all vehicles other than the 2500 and 3500 series trucks and vans). So for the technican it doesnt benfit him to cut the rotors because he cant make any money on the job if hes "flat rate". I think you deffinetly have a valid complant for them not replacing the rotors when it was in under 12K. Hope that helps! Guy

Why didn't you just use those self-locking bolts for headers? Those are supposed to help a lot from what I have read. Im going to be using them on my new headers when I install them. I dont know what you can do about the hose clamps though? I haven';re really ever heard of that being a problem. Guy

Here's another idea I just thought of.... What if you build a 3 sided box with a top and bottom but one side missing. Then you buy one of those IR heat lamps and put tha on the open side? Then you could hang stuff on the inside and the box would help keep most of the heat in a confined area? Guy

Now I dont know if anyone will know what I am talking about but here it goes.... Over here in Wisconsin farmers use big huge tanks to hold their fuels in. Most are atleast 150 Gallons. They are kind of oval at the base and tall. I think if you put the heating elements in one of those you could cut a side off it and use it as an oven? It would take a little bit of work to get the "door" sealed half way decent but it would be a pretty big oven once done! Not to mention it would be pretty cheap. Heck I've got 2 of them sitting out side by our storage shed just rusting away! The only down part of it is I think you would have to have it set up outside because it wouldnt be insulated? I dont know how well it would work but I thought I would through it out there! Heck just spend the $10,000 on the walk-in over that Eastwood sells! Guy

Well on my LT1 engine I am running 11:1 compression and a .525/.525 cam(219/228@.050.....LT4 H.C.) and I have no problems with loosing brake booster vaccum. Of course I do have a 280ZX so I suppose the booster for the brakes is different. Does compression even have anything to do with the vaccum of an engine? I thought it was only the cam that played a part in that? Guy

What is the address for the Hot Coat website and where did you get a oven with a digital readout for $100? Guy
-
RacerX do you have any tips on how to apply an even coat on the springs? I was thinking the same thing, that the coat on the inside would be less because its kinda harder to get to. Well I guess I can tell my girlfriend what to get me fore x-mas! Man by the time I'm "finished" with my car Im going to have enough tools to have my own shop! LOL Guy

Go to Eastwood and type in "10112" for the search option, that is the part number for the $159.99 kit that I am thinking about buying. They also have a "PRO Deluxe Kit" that is $849.99, but they say this is more for doing large batches of parts. So would the 350*-400* curing temp be too much heat for springs? Its not like a torch where its like 2000*+. I didnt really think that 400* would be a problem? Anybody else have a clue if this is a concern? Guy

Well like you said there is no company that makes a kit for the 90-96 300ZX SBC swap.......however "Adlashwa"(a member on this forum) has just came up with a book just like "Jaguars That Run" for a LS1 swap into the 90-96 300ZX. I have not seen teh book but from what he says it will go through the whole swap step by step and if you need help he said he is more than willing to help you through the swap. I think if you've got the 90-96 300ZX then you should swap in the LS1 to match the performance of the rest of the car. Thats just my opinion though! There are very very few people who have done the 90-96 300ZX SBC swap. So your kinda on your own as far as making mounts. Good luck! Guy

ROTFLMAO!...Yeah thats just what you need in the bath room! Guy -
I was looking through my Eastwood painters product catalog tonight and I saw they they sell basic powder coating kits for under $200(you get a sprayer, high temp fiberglass masking tape, Two 1/2lbs containers for power coating, moisture filter and some other little things)! I didnt think it was too bad of a price...or is it? Anyways I have an extra oven to "bake" the parts taht I would like to coat so that end of the proccess is covered. What I want to know is has anyone done power coating themselves? If so how hard was it to do? Is it basically like painting? How hard is a power coating? I would like to paint my suspension parts(springs, strut housings, control arms) I have never had a part powder coated so I dont know if it chips easy or not? From what I understand it doesnt and this is why so many people like to have parts powder coated. Also if it is a really hard compound will I be able to paint my springs or will it just crack when the suspension goes through its full motion? Thanks a lot guys!

Well if price is not a concern then I like the new Canon EOS Digital Rebel 6.3-megapixel digital SLR camera. Its brand new so the price is kinda up there...$1000!!!!! But a 6.3-megapixel digital camera....can you say "SWEEEEEEEEEET!!!" Here's a write-up on it... Guy

Well it kind of hard to tell from the pic but I know Cadillac made a 4.9L V8 not sure if it was alluminum? Guy

Well #7 was the tricky one...The plug wire for that one will actually go on from the top, #5 will go on from the bottom. #7 will indeed be a tight fit but there really isnt much room to begin with. I am going to finish up the welds this weekend and do a final test fit of both headers. So I will let you guys know how everything fits! Guy
-
Well my drivers side header is almost completed! I still have to finish welding all the pipes together and then clean up the welds. I "think" that the block hugger fits on the passenger side with out modification but I will have to make sure before I send out the headers to be ceramic coated. Here's some pics.... 8) Guy 8)

I thought I read in somebodys post that there was a 3.08? I cant remember who said it though? Guy
