  1. Double true. I was also going to say that another way of figuring out if it works is what I like to call the "Ultimate Test" ie. plugging it in...
  2. Thanks for the info. I shot an email off to those guys to see if they want to make the lenses. I think I'm more of a fan of flat lenses as opposed to the conical type, without the reflector and chrome strip, which seems to be the trend for newer cars as well, but if they can spit them out at a reasonable price I guess there's not much reason for me to make my own style. I'm not a big fan of gauge pods like that myself, and it's tricky because everyone seems to have different opinions on what they want so I don't know if we would all be content with a single style. I'm more into non-ricer upgrades that are more subtle. I wish I had the space and the time to run a shop that makes stuff like that but for now I'm just planning on making stuff I can use myself at first and since I have the tooling I can make more for other people.
  3. I would think that as long as all the veins go all the way across it should be fine.
  4. They will replace the original lenses. I will also be doing an LED upgrade which might look better without the bulb cones, but I don't see much need for fabricating the housings unless most people want a similar upgrade package. It could very well be an aluminum plate with a mounted circuit board holding 10 or so LEDs.
  5. Thanks for the idea! The tail light lenses would probably be the cheapest part since they are the easiest to make. I'll have to see if storing all the tooling for large parts such as the dash would be worth the trouble, but I definitely want to make the smaller parts.
  6. Anybody in socal has this? I can't seem to find a dealer.
  7. My initial goal is to make some one-offs for my 240z as a home sort of long term project. Is there anyone else interested in some aesthetic components? I would be willing to kick into high gear if a market existed, I can't find anyone that is doing this already. The closest thing on here are the chopped door skins I bought a year ago which have been somewhat of a pain. First I want to make all the interior trim panels out of fg to replace the cheesy plastic ones that are falling apart on me. They would probably be smooth and ready to be painted whichever color, lightweight vacuum bagged at room temp. Plus I would like to combine the two side pieces into one and get rid of the bulge for the gas tank breather as well as the fake speaker holes etc. I'm sure some people would also like a clear coated cf interior that would just ooze panache. Perhaps even a composite dash or console that won't crack on us, although the tooling for those would be pretty extreme. Secondly, I want to make custom tail light lenses to replace the expensive stock ones that I don't even really care for, of which mine are starting to look like swiss cheese. I'm tempted to buy a legit vacuform station but it wouldn't be very economical if I end up only making one set. I could make several clay molds, the first of which would eradicate the reflector and chrome strip and then the whole lens can be uniform clear or smoked. I'm sure there are other things I can make as well out of glass or plastic once the ideas are presented. Comments, concerns?
  8. Wow this thread has really grown! Props to us! Also I don't know if I ever updated that I daily drive my project now. It's been at least six months and not a single problem yet.
  9. Um no you did not. I wish I had a job right about now. How much you shooting for?
  10. Is it brighter than that or is it just your camera? I wonder what color the code r32 is.
  11. You could just bondo over the duct tape and save some time! Are those 31s?? They look small, or are the wells just large? It's lowriding for sure, those wheels aren't coming back out. It's a good thing.

    The blog

I do! Well, not really. But seriously, nobody reads the blogs. Except us, well not really. No offense. So yeah I guess it's going the way of the chat. Sad day. The only thing left to add is a master feed like twitter, and group pages with news like facebook, and videos, and games... dude, we could flood the zcar market and get some crazy exposure.
  13. of a blog? Just to kill bytes I guess.
  14. I bought Ray's glass door panel skins because they were cheaper than buying the oem cardboard ones, which seemed cheaply made anyway. I figured I can have them covered down the line but they might look good enough just flat black. The only problem is they are easily scuffed and starting to show wear. They took quite a bit of prep after all because the surfaces were quite porous and not at all ready for paint, but it worked out okay. I just riveted them to the original top metal piece, and replaced the fuzzies while I was at it by riveting those on because I don't have a way to staple them on. Made the holes with a calibrated eyeball and pushed in a bunch of universal 3/8" plastic interior fasteners. I'm not sure how I could get these to work if and when I have them covered though. I would probably just cut slots so that the fasteners are removable from the back and could be replaced and have the fronts lightly padded and lined with vinyl to match the interior, which I think would look pretty nice. But for now these do just fine.
  15. Ok I finally have a working tach. Sprung for the autometer cobalt that matches my speedo. It doesn't have a 1cyl mode so I moved the msd gmr pickup to a common wire and set it to 6cyl. Seems to work despite the instructions on the pickup saying that with that speed it would read erratically. The only other way to do it I suppose would be to tether the leads from two opposite cylinders and put the tach back into 4cyl mode.
  16. I was under the impression that later 240s also had the sway bar. Couldn't you just yank one of those? Aftermarket rear suspension mods seem to all have allowance for the use of a sway bar, such as the azcar r200 kit. Although mine is a 72 and it doesn't have one either. It's like they left it out of the early models as an afterthought.
  17. This is exhaust after all, cosmetics should be the last concern. That said, I'm thinking all of those welds look pretty legit. If you must dissect it, the only irregularities are where they overlap because the complex shapes were spot welded first and then closed up afterwards, but the heat and penetration are apparent, there's no real indication that they could be weak or contain any leaks. Sure you can tell it's been done by hand, but they are very even and consistent nonetheless. If you think those welds are sub par then you must be really spoiled imo...
  18. Dang I wish mine got that much attention, looks great! I like the goofy turndown tip though.
  19. Yeah nobody will be looking at the face when she's stacked like that. Drag queen or show queen, everyone has to pick a priority at some point. It's gonna look sweet though. I feel you man, it's getting cold here too. I think it dropped into the 60s once like a week ago, yikes!
  20. For a while AZcar was selling both billet a-arms and the steel "roadrace assemblies", which were probably the economical version since they were already pricey with the brakes and springs upgrade. Now it looks like even the roadrace assemblies have updated billet arms. They still show the steel arms in the coilover upgrade page but it might just be an old picture.
  21. I wanted to put one of those flex pieces in my line but the guy at the shop said they don't last very long especially with all the extra heat created from being boosted your thoughts? Although yours might be far enough away to keep from getting too hot...
  22. SH! Don't talk like that. We should start a stony fund Also, if low 9s was your previous record you should be able to at least get into the 8s now! Or as rob would say, easy 9s to easy 8s. Either way it's gonna be sick. And that's a good thing.
