    318 v8 swap

Welcome EZrider, I think the best forum to post in would be the "Mopar V8Z Tech. forum." Looking forward to seeing progress on your conversion.
  2. Hey, I love my Grand Cherokee. It has all the toys, in the winter I love the all wheel drive, heated seats and mirrors, it has a somewhat killer sound system in it. In the summer I love the climate control, the power moonroof, the power of the 360 engine, and the towing capacity for pulling my Checkmate. plus it doubles as a work truck for my skate shop.
  3. Well, I got the Caprice for $475. But I'm still looking for another donor car. My son was home on a 96'er and needed a winter car/transportation until he gets shipped to Kuwait, his Mustang is totally useless in the winter. Maybe I can get it back from him when he ships out. I'm still looking in the meantime.
  4. Georgia Flash, I had the same concerns. This is a small town police dept. Two cruisers and six officers. The afore mentioned car has the police package, 71000 miles, records show oil changed/serviced every two months. It runs very well, needs brakes only. Oh, it has throttle body injection. The car is very quick for a big "land barge". I'm negotiating with the village to get the car for $500.
  5. I sold my 327 to a very persistant fellow for a very sizeable profit. Now I'm back to the drawing board, so to speak. I have a line on a 88 Caprice police cruiser from a small town nearby. Low milage (high hours though, I'm sure). It has the 350 police interceptor in it. I can get the complete car for under $600. Can anyone tell me anything about these engines? Is it a throttlebody injection? Your help is greatly appreciated.
  6. I payed $1.98 per gallon for premium last night. That's in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Two weeks ago, at the same station, I paid $1.67 per gallon for premium. I run premium in my 360 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Limited.
  7. Louie, My first hybrid Z was a low budget conversion back in the late eighties. For a driveshaft I used the Camaro shaft and had it shortened by a local driveline specialist. I bought the yoke from JTR. My conversion had a Turbo 350 trans. for the speedo cable I used the stock Datsun cable housing and got a universal cable core from NAPA to fit a Chevy. The Datsun housing end is close enough to the Chevy in size, so I chased the thread with the appropriate tap to change it to fit the Chevy trans. That was my low budget way around those issues. I hope this helps.
  8. I'm a ME with secondaries in electronics and optics. I work in Research and Developement for a company that manufactures lasers for the construction industry.
  9. I work for Leica-Geosystems, in their Construction Laser Manufacturing Division, in Research and Development. I have worked for them for twenty-four years. before that I worked for a Lincoln Mercury Dealership in the parts dept. while completing college.

    Type R?

Thanks, guys. I found a picture of it. It was an Acura Integra, brand new with no plates yet, a sticker in the back window and a dealer add where the plate goes. He still lost bigtime to my son's Mustang.

    Type R?

When it comes to Japanese Ricer type sedans, I am totally illiterate. Driving down the road the other day, I saw a new Black sedan, with a little red "Type R" in the lower right corner of the rear valance. What kind of car is it? Thanks, your help in educating the ignorant is appreciated.
  12. Guy, Please keep us posted on your progress. I'm sure there are several of us ZX owners that would be interested. I, myself, am one of them.
  13. Ivan, I like the one sugestion you had but with a twist. How about HIBOOZT

    Nice or Rice?

That's the look I was thinking of for my 79, in 17".
  15. That same thing happened to me on my 79 ZX 5-speed. Shortly thereafter the input shaft bearing let go. In the long run this was good, though. It forced me to start my V-8 conversion.
  16. John, My '79 ZX presently has seats from a '89 Camaro in it (I agree, they are junk seats) so I suppose any of the seats that are going into the Z or ZX should fit with a little fabrication. Good luck on your quest.
  17. I'm not even considering this for a swap. I was just curious. Had a "joker" with a 92 Camaro for sale tell me it had a LT-5 Corvette 305 in it. Since I wasn't familiar with that option I couldn't call him on it. NOW I CAN! Thanks.

    Top Speed?

Right after the Vipers came out, I was in Detroit and a friend of mine, who is an engineer for Chrysler and worked on the Viper project, had one of the Chrysler motorpool Vipers at home. He asked me if I wanted to go for a ride. I mistakenly said YES! We entered I-75 South at 14 mile road. We were doing 110 by the time we entered the freeway and proceeded to thread through traffic at 140+. Definitly a white knuckle ride. Had to change the shorts when we returned.
  19. With the wealth of knowlege on this site, please tell me what you can about a '92 LT-5. I think it's a 305. Is it a TPI? Also tell me is it a good or bad choice for a conversion. Thanks ahead for your input.
  20. Welcome Dave, I am also in the process of a V-8/ZX conversion. I am pretty much following the conversion that Dave Greimann did, as far as mounts, manifolds, etc. as I have the same steering as his, and his conversion puts the motor in the lowest possible position. Which makes the most sense to me. (Thanks Dave G. for the excellent site). This is the third V-8/Z conversion for me, first on a ZX. Use the knowledge that is prevelent in this site. From experience, any questions you have during the conversion will have an answer here.
  21. The hardest ones I've ever owned were Number one, 1968 Shelby GT-500 with optional side oiler 427. Had to pull the engine just to see the plugs. Second was my 1970 Duster, 440 with Hooker equal length headers. Had to remove those monsters to get to the plugs. Third was my wifes old 1991 Olds Cutlass Supreme with a 3.1. Had to remove front motor mount and rock the engine forward to get to the back bank of plugs.
  22. A few years ago, the local jet turbine tractor/truck pulling guru had a gentleman with too much money ask him to install two turbines into his 38' cigarette boat. He installed two British Lycoming (sp) jet turbines from Huey helicopters. A good friend of mine also tractor pulled and was good friends of the guru. We got asked to go on its maiden voyage. Once we were in open water (Lake Michigan) we opened it up to 110mph and the guru said we were only at 75% power. Needless to say, that was fast enough for us.
  23. This weekend I drove my son's car to him. He is in the Marines, now stationed at Camp Lajuene, North Carolina. That's over 1000 miles from us in Michigan. His car is a '90 Mustang Notchback. Bright Red with a Saleen wing, 17" Cobra rims. Everything is modified on this car. I'm not sure what is done to the engine, but it was checked on the dyno at 422hp. It has very stiff suspension, also. Not the ideal car for a cross country trip.I was nice and drove very conservatively, except for the one time leaving a toll booth on I-77 in West Verginia. Just as I was leaving the booth, in the lane next to me a Mercedes 500SL came blasting out of the booth. So I jumped on it. I went blasting past the 500SL like it was sitting still. Watching in my left side mirror as the 500SL got smaller I noticed the driver, a rather distinguished looking 60 something, had a ear to ear grin on his face. I ran to about 75 or 80 and backed off it. As the 500SL blasted past me the driver, still sporting the big grin, gave me the thumbs up That one small moment made the whole trip bearable. Seeing my son was the best part of the weekend, though. 16 hour drive down there, saw my son for 24 hours, and a 16 hour drive back. At least the drive back was easier on the seatend, in my wife's 95 Cutlass Convertable.
  24. Hey, Isn't he the one driving that yellow 280ZX/Lambo. conglomeration?
