Cant get my T56 sperated from the LT1
spdsk8r replied to love-my-V8-280Z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Went over to Terry's (love-my-V8-280Z) house yesterday. I'll tell you, when his Z is done, it will be wild. I was very impressed with the work that he has put into the body, and the interior looks like new. That LT-1/T56 will make a fantastic package. Thanks, Terry for the hospitality. -
Grumpyvette, Glad to hear you got it. Does it look like something you can use? It was just too large a diameter for my application.

Back in the early eighties, our neighbor from two houses down had two Vegas. A red wagon with a 400 small block/turbo 400 and a hatchback with a full frame, full cage, tubbed and a 454 with a 4speed. The wagon was his wife's car and the hatchback was his daily driver.

Paul, I was out of town this weekend. The driveshaft shipped FedEx Friday, you should see it this week.

Denny, My son was three weeks early, and had a problem (needed a transfusion). He spent five days in the pre-me nusery. He looked kind of out of place at nine pounds. Because of his underdeveloped resperatory system, we went through the whole gamut including pneumonia twice in the first year. Now he's a 6'4, 215 lb. Marine. Congrats!

I second what Tim said. Bowtie Overdrives has helped me with my 700r4 immensely. They are very knowledgeable about GM overdrives and have quality products. Also, if you need a driveshaft, my donor vehicle had a 4L80E trans and I still have the aluminum driveshaft with yoke. You can have it for cost of shipping.

This is a sign at the local animal shelter: "All children left unattended will be given a free kitten."

I stopped by Denny's house, today. When he says he lifted the engine, I believe him. Oh, by the way, thanks Denny, for the hospitality and the door panels. Also, your Z project is awesome. It will be a wild ride when it is finished.

95 camaro V8.For my 280Z, Advice much needed!!!
spdsk8r replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
78Z-in-GR-MI, I sent an e-mail to you but it was returned, undeliverable. Sounds like a good idea to get together sometime. My truck motor came from a 91 G-30 one ton van. It originally had injection (throttle body). I installed a cam, Performer intake and Holley 600dp, as well as new double roller timing set, oil pump/pickup, and Moroso 7qt oil pan. I'm using a 700R4 trans. with a 2200 stall converter. -

78Z-in-GR-MI Where in GR are you? I'm in Caledonia. I'm about 2/3 of the way through my 350sbc 79ZX conversion. Your deal sounds good to me, for some reason around western MI, LT1's are rare and are treated like gold. I was originally looking for a LT1 for my conversion but got a good deal on a 91 truck motor instead. -
#1. A Baker built 502 BBC turning 12000rpm. #2 My friends 347 SBF in his Superformance Cobra replica, through those side pipes.

A young 52, a picture in my personal album will attest to that.

My son bought a new TL1000R this past summer. He keeps trying to get me to ride it. I keep telling him I have absolutely no interest in riding it. Actually I'm scared to death to ride it

Is cutting the springs a "no no" around here.
spdsk8r replied to Phyte's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I put MSA lowering springs in my ZX and the car looked like a 4x4, it sat about 2 inches higher than the stock springs. I solved it by cutting one coil off each spring. Now it sits about stock height with a little stiffer ride. -
I would use them. My cousin has a Opal GT with a "healthy" 355 with Brownfield heads. The car runs low nines in the quarter.

And look, the only negative feed back is from the one who won the auction.

Thanks, strotter, that's exactly what I was looking for.

what do you guys think about (LT-1)

The 4L60E is the newer electronic version of the 700R4. -
Does anyone have pics of their remote mounted air filter on a carbed SBC?I searched and found a couple of threads on this subject, using a hat from a Volvo or a Dakota RT, but no pics. I also looked in the Albums to no avail. Thanks.

I don't know if this is true or not, it really does not matter, it is a funny story and will bring tears to your eyes. Calling in sick to work makes me uncomfortable. No matter how legitimate my excuse, I always get the feeling that my boss thinks I'm lying. On one recent occasion, I had a valid reason but lied anyway, because the truth was just too darned humiliating. I simply mentioned that I had sustained a head injury, and I hoped I would feel up to coming in the next day. By then, I reasoned, I could think up a doozy to explain the bandage on the top of my head. The accident occurred mainly because I had given in to my wife's wishes to adopt a cute little kitty. Initially, the new acquisition was no problem. Then one morning, I was taking my shower after breakfast when I heard my wife, Deb, call out to me from the kitchen. "Honey! The garbage disposal is dead again. Please come reset it." "You know where the button is," I protested through the shower pitter-patter and steam. "Reset it yourself!" "But I'm scared!" she persisted. "What if it starts going and sucks me in?" There was a meaningful pause and then, "C'mon, it'll only take you a second." So out I came, dripping wet and buck naked, hoping that my silent outraged nudity would make a statement about how I perceived her behavior as extremely cowardly. Sighing loudly, I squatted down and stuck my head under the sink to find the button. It is the last action I remember performing. It struck without warning, and without any respect to my circumstances. No, it wasn't the hexed disposal, drawing me into its gnashing metal teeth. It was our new kitty, who discovered the fascinating dangling objects she spied hanging between my legs. She had been poised around the corner and stalked me as I reached under the sink. And, at the precise moment when I was most vulnerable, she leapt at the toys I unwittingly offered and snagged them with her needle-like claws. I lost all rational thought to control orderly bodily movements, blindly rising at a violent rate of speed, with the full weight of a kitten hanging from my masculine region. Wild animals are sometimes faced with a fight or flight syndrome. Men, in this predicament, choose only the "flight" option. I know this from experience. I was fleeing straight up into the air when the sink and cabinet bluntly and forcefully impeded my ascent. The impact knocked me out cold. When I awoke, my wife and the paramedics stood over me. Now there are not many things in this life worse than finding oneself lying on the kitchen floor buck naked in front of a group of "been-here, done-that" paramedics. Even worse, having been fully briefed by my wife, the paramedics were all snorting loudly as they tried to conduct their work, all the while trying to suppress their hysterical laughter.......and not succeeding. Somehow I lived through it all. A few days later I finally made it back in to the office, where colleagues tried to coax an explanation out of me about my head injury. I kept silent, claiming it was too painful to talk about. Which it was. "What's the matter?" They all asked, "Cat got your tongue?" If they only knew!

Several years ago, just after the Vipers came out, I was at a speedskating competition in Detroit. One of my friends that I competed against is an engineer for Chrysler and worked on that project. He had a Viper from Chryslers motorpool. After the skating was over, he asked me if I wanted to go for a ride. ...We were at the light to enter southbound I-75 at 14 mile road. We made the turn and my friend got on it. At the top of the ramp, we entered the freeway and trafic at 140 and proceeded to thread our way through three lanes of cars for several miles at this speed. Can you say white knuckles? I definately had to change my shorts after that one.

I thought it was just sad!

Roll Cages - s30 vs s130 - 280z vs 280zx
spdsk8r replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I also have a ZX and I'm on the other side of the state, just south of Grand Rapids. There are several cage fabbers in GR area. -
Friday night I was in my garage working on the ZX (wiring the engine). It was about 11:00, quite warm so I had the door open. (Note: my garage is at the back of my yard, behind the house.) I heard some teenagers walking down the road, coming from the high school football game. All I heard was usual teenage chat, when suddenly I heard over the dribble "Oh, that's a Datsun 280ZX." ...I guess there is hope, yet.

Hope this helps.
