  1. You guys had me scrathing my head. I just bought an AUTOMATIC shifter base plate for an 700r4/V8 conversion. I went out to the shed to check fit on 2 260-280 consoles. IT FITS correctly. All mounting bosses, and cut out for the sliding shifter plate are there. From what I see, auto/manual consoles are the SAME!!!...Tommy
  2. Cam timing if it's been played with, or jumped. Bad distributor cap is another possibility.
  3. Popping back on accel is usaually caused by a lean condition. That's why most carbs have accelerator pumps. I'd look for vacuum leaks, bad boot between MAF and throttle body, possible TPS, low fuel pressure, bad FPR. Also don't ignore the possibility of crossfire between the ignition wires. Test with a water spray bottle....Tommy
  4. Not auto related, but should get me an honorable mention. I had an above ground pool. My neighbor filled in his big inground pool, and gave me this HUGE super pump. So I plumbed it in. Tremendous gallons per minute! Soooo, I'm in the pool, with my old school gym shorts on. I've got about 3 different hoses connected together, and proceed to vacuum the pool. During my cleaning, one of the hoses becomes disconnected. It the starts to snake through the water like an ANOCONDA. Somehow, it finds its way to, (if remeber correctly) my right TESTICLE! %*@#$%^#$$%# I was in a DEATH ROLL with this monster. Time to MAN UP. So I grabbed my package and wrestled it from the jaws of death. Once again, no permanent damage that I know of. Although, some people call me lefty?
  5. Remember how you used to find a misfiring cylinder? Sooo, I'm pulling ignition wires one at a time to find the bad cylinder. And yes, I've gotten zapped a few times. I've done this a thousand times. Well on this occasion, I was well grounded, groin firmly pressed to the fender. I honestly beleive sparks shot out the end of my magic wand!!!! Maybe thats why I'm so good in sack. No permanent injuries that I know of.

  9. Cadillacs, and diesel engines used belt driven vacuum pumps. Readily available.
  10. Use a muffler cut off tool.(abrasive disc). Then nut and bolt it . Tac weld on bolt optional.
  11. My early 74 260Z has an 11/73 production date. My favorite model. Thin bumpers, 280 interior, still has full size spare well, larger engine, 280 tail lamps, yada, yada ,yada.

    wooden dash?

Everyone is aware of rust issues with Z cars. You're next battle may be with termites.
  14. I was a tech for a short time at INFINITI. If I remember correctly, the AWD version had a tube/hole in the oil pan for the drive axel. This hole may lend itself to additional bracing options.
  15. You can't stop them, short of a stake out. Why don't you put small index marks on the mirror, and the mount. This way you can easily have a point of reference for readjustment.
  16. A leak down test puts air into the cylinder, and with its guages, shows the percentage of lost pressure.
  17. Worth mentioning. All your resistance tests should be done at the ECM connector, being carefull not to damage the terminals.(ECM DISCONNECTED) this will evaluate the connector to component integrity.
