  1. Glad you made it to the area! Have to meet up one of these days. Greg
  2. That looks great Hugh! I finally got a turbo engine myself last weekend so I'm going to have to play catch up and learn more about what you've been doing to yours.... Greg
  3. Happy bday Hugh! Make sure to do everything that I wouldn't do. Greg
  4. I would really like to fix this on my '72 240Z too. I tried the trunk seal and while its better, I still smell it. It is worst with the windows open, but I can still smell it with them closed. I need new door seals, and still need to seal the taillights. I thought about using a longer exhaust tip, but haven't done that yet. The exhaust system is one of the MSA 2 1/2" ones. It would be nice if there was one way to fix it, but when there are so many possibilities, it makes it harder. What makes it worse is that I have a friend with several Z's and none of his have the exhaust issue. Greg
  5. There are some areas in Milwaukee that are kind of run down, but other areas that are really nice and well to do. Overall its a good place. As Hugh said, it is close to downtown, and has good access to freeways. Its close to Hugh and quite a few other Z club guys too. Greg
  6. Haha...thats funny. I like your setup Hugh. Greg
  7. Yah I guess they really want to make sure they can see whats behind them! Greg
  8. Hugh, this was about 1996 that I tried to get the Volvo checked there, and they were slow and the guy refused to check it, but things have certainly changed at the DEQ since, so maybe they might check older cars...who knows. I'll have to try it and see. I've always assumed the noise level thing on the test form was just a seat of the pants judgement by the operator myself. Greg
  9. Which ones do those tests Hugh? The DEQ? I tried to test my 1969 Volvo 1800S at DEQ once for emissions back when it was running b4 I took it down for restoration and they wouldn't do it because the car was too old. You should be able to get them just for that portion of it.....there are no guidelines for how to do the test. I better watch it myself then if you got ticketed because my 240Z was about as loud as yours. Greg
  10. If you can afford it, the suburbs of Portland are quite good....i.e. Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tualatin, Lake Oswego, Milwaukee etc. The commute from some of these into Portland can be annoyingly slow however. If you want to live in Portland proper, then some areas of N and SE Portland are good, and SW, NW are going to be better of course, but cost more. Greg
  11. I'm putting a T5 in my '72 also and have been able to gether some info about the swap. The driveline is different...the front shaft on it has to be a special one of the T5. The T5 drivelines matched up with the turbo R200 which had a different flange than the normal R200. So you end up having to get a driveline made or modified to fit no matter what. The tranny crossmember needs to be modified. The center of the T5 mount has to be cut. The center of the stock mount has to be cut, and the center section for the T5 needs to mate up with the outer sections of the '72 mount. I haven't done it yet so I don't have any pics. For the clutch, the turbos and 2 + 2's had a 240mm clutch and the rest of them had a 225mm clutch. The throwout bearing collar goes with the flywheel, so if you want to use the 240mm clutch, you need a throwout bearing collar to fit the 240mm clutch, and vice versa. The shift fork on the '72 has the adjustable clutch slave cylinder, and the T5 one did not, so if you want to use the adjustable slave cylinder, you need to swap shift forks and use your old one. Thats what I've been able to gather so far...I'm sure there is more info out there. I hope to do my swap within a month or so. Greg
  12. I wonder if the lack of the other 3 bolts and the missing ring make any strength differences? I got my kit last night and everything looks great. I'm thinking I'll just get this flywheel lightened and use this pressure plate and clutch and it should work fine....... Greg
  13. I just ordered one of these for myself. I did a bit of research at Valeo's site before I ordered, and the part number they list for the flywheel in this auction is the 240mm one. The one they list for a 225mm on the Valeo site is a different part number than what is in the auction, so you should be good with it. I haven't got mine yet though so I can't tell you for sure, but from all the research I could do it looked good. Greg
  14. I decided to check out the Ford dealership since the T5 was used in lots of mustangs and I found the same basic part. The electrical connections are different than the Datsun setup, but I think it's actually superior the way they connected it, so I went with that. It was $37.20 and is readily available, so if anyone else needs one, thats one way to go. Greg
  15. I thought everyone might like this video from Jay Leno's site on the GT-R. His site has tons of cool things on it anyway for a car nut but check this one out! Greg http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/video_player.shtml?vid=244892
  16. Hello, I've got a Borg Warner T5 from a ZXT and need to find the backup light switch that screws into the driver's side of the transmission. It is NLA from Nissan, and the part number is/was C20005-P9500. Does anyone have any idea where I could find such a thing? Greg
  17. Porsches, especially the 911, have a certain appeal. I like the Z better if you're talking older ones, but I'd rather have a new Porsche than a new Z myself. The Porsche has always been a very well made, well engineered car that is fun to drive, and looks good. I'd take one if someone wanted to give me one. Greg
  18. Hey its ok Jon. I figured you just hadn't read it fully or something. I've heard the shifter on the B 4 speed has a better feel and is stronger. This is the only one I've shifted though since I have a B 4 speed in my '72. I'm swapping a T5 5 speed in though once I figure everything out with the swap. If you were going to go to the trouble of chainging a transmission, I'd recommend putting a 5 speed in unless you want to stay completely original. I believe the Nissan 5 speeds swap in easier than the T5 does. Greg
  19. I know the transmission mount is different on the '72 as compared to the series 1 stuff, but I'm not sure between the '72 and the '71. I think they changed the transmission for the '72 and the mount mounts to the car in a different spot. If I was going to do all the work to swap things around, I'd just go to a 5 speed myself. Greg
  20. Actually, the best thing to pour into your engine for porting is glue.....something really strong is best. Greg
  21. Ok, so stock stroke and a larger bore for Chris and forged pistons.... and you've got smaller bore and stock pistons...still making all that power and torque.....sounds like a plan. Here I was thinking that I'd need to find a diesel crank and get 3.1L to get the power you two are getting. I can just stick with the L28 crank then. Sweet! Thanks Phil! greg
  22. I might be interested too....will have to talk to Hugh first tho. Greg
  23. Phil, are you and Chris getting all that power from the 2.8L, or did you stroke both engines? Greg
