There do appear to me some issues related to searching. I have had some difficulty finding posts that I know are there. For instance, this thread: http://hybridz.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=29645 Just did not turn up. I tried many, many search terms, usernames, etc. I had to hunt for it manually. Once I did find it, I tried some experiments using exact verbage, ANDs, ORs, etc. I either turned up huge piles of hits (but without the magic hit), or no results at all.

The poor man's rear toe-in adjuster
jeromio replied to blueovalz's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I finally started on mine this weekend. Only took me a year. First car project in a loooooon long while. I posted some pics and info here: http://240z.jeromio.com/rearToe I'm not done, so any and all comments/critiques are welcome and encouraged. -
My impression was that the 'maro tank was lighter than the datsun unit. I presume you weighed the whole assembly, including the beefy brackets, to arrive at 41lbs. My 14ga (overkill) tirewell cover weighed (by feel, not scale) more than the old tirewell. I'm hesitant to weld the cover in place. Mine's installed with screws so I can remove the whole thing if I need to get at something. Your 73 240 must have a much different filler than my 71. Mine had a very, very large, stiff plastic filler that I had to remove just to get the 'maro tank in place. And it was a huge pain to remove too. Had to cut it up with a sawzall. None of you felt compelled to put in a crash brace behind the tank? I know at some point I will have to put in a fuel cell - which is a damn shame since this fbody tank fits so nicely.

How not to turbo yer LS1.... or maybe so....
jeromio replied to tannji's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Hp = Torque (in foot pounds) x RPM / 5252 Yet those graphs show the intersection at something like 5800rpm. So, I'm not saying that those graphs are fabricated, but I am saying that they don't appear to represent actual, legitimate dyno charts. -

Shouldn't the hp and torque curves intersect at 5252 RPM? -
LS1 240-280 guys with motor mount pics or plans
jeromio replied to MYRON's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Interesting. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the fact that the alt. uses stock bracketry with the datsun towers still in place must mean the motor is about 2 inches forward of where mine is. Then again, it's probably a bit higher also - we all know that can be a good thing: My motor is right up against the firewall, but probably a bit too low. At some point I will need to either do a custom pan or dry $ump. I'm curious about that passenger side mount. Driver's looks like camaro motor mount is used, but the pass. side must be something unique. -
The guy's a freak, but he's right about the Supreme Court though - and that personally scares the crap out of me. W will get to fill at least 2 spots in this next term. Roe v Wade is going to get squelched and Patriot Act squared will pop up at some point. Then of course there's the 4 more years of spending free for all with the GOP in total control of the purse strings. Let's just see how much more money we can borrow from the Chinese.....

Now I'm wondering if John posted that as sarcasm? Either way, you're much better read than I am. I've never even heard of that site. Very well written articles, though clearly biased. I especially liked this one: Bush owes no one an explanation Interestingly, that article, and the Fukuyama one that John posted, make a few similar arguments, namely that the Bush administration (and Bush himself), have a polar, blind devotion to themselves. There are absolutely no mistakes, each and every decision was the exact right one. Furthermore, one cannot even hint at questioning these decisions, or else you are simply an Un-American, un-patriot. At any rate, the articles at that site would carry more weight if the site had a bit more balance IMO.

I'll be very curious to see how you get the stock filler to work. I couldn't figure out a way so I had to remove mine - which was actually a huge PITA. I hunter around the junkyard and decided on a 2nd gen Maxima filler. It works, but is not ideal. I think if I decide to redo it (which I should), I will actually block off the filler on the tank and move it back, closer to the filler door location. It's a nylon tank, so , that might be tricky. Then I will weld up the filler door and do something like Dan Juday's filler - a simple all-in-one style external filler and cap. Also, I half-assed it with all those extra lines for vent, etc. I kept the charcoal canister, etc. I think that was a mistake because there are just so many lines. It just seemed like a better idea to have some kind of system to take care of the venting of vapors. But right now I have to be careful when filling b/c if I don't pay attention, fuel spills out of one of those lines - not sure which one. I have an explanation of a way to use the fuel sender on my website.

I think your summary of the Democrats is close. But your summary of Republicans is (IMO) way off. They both want large government spending huge sums of $$$. Under the current setup of Republican controlled legistative and executive branches, we have one of the biggest budget deficits ever. Plus, you leave out the tremendous influence of the christian fundies on the republican party. They want the government involved in deciding and enforcing morality. Talk about cradle to grave. And "helping business" is a logical conundrum. Yes, you can have intnat'l policies that help business and fiscal policies that make our economy stronger (reducing deficits, paying down debt, etc.), but actually helping business means you are hurting another one. I view business subsidies and special treatments as just another attempt at socialism that makes us weaker. My one issue with your Dem summary (keep in mind, I am not a Dem), is the environment. Taking care of the environment is a good thing for the economy and life in general. It's all about short term vs. long term. In the short term, it may make business easier to allow the dry cleaner to dump chloroform into the water supply. In the long term, permanently polluted aquafers and diseased children will cost everyone A LOT more, and not just in purely economic terms. Sound, enforced env. policy levels the playing field, making businesses easier to run and securing the future of the country. But yes, most (if not all) Dem supported social programs including housing and minimum wage can be shown over and over again by even rudimentary studies to actually have the OPPOSITE effect. Rent control does what? Drives up rent. Minimum wage does what? Makes people poorer (by eliminating jobs and increasing inflation). Health insurance is a whole other very complicated issue. Sum it to say that larger pools of subscribers make for lower costs for all, balanced against the reverse economies of bureacracy.

I am not a turbo guy. But from what I know, the exhaust side of a turbo is just like an extra part of the exhaust system. As others have already stated, a glowing turbo is just like any other glowing section of the exhaust system: A Bad Thingâ„¢. But yes, the turbo will be hot - hopefully just as hot as the exhaust manifold. To be clear though, the turbo is not creating heat. What it is supposed to do is convert some of that otherwise wasted heat into mechanical energy (which is then used to drive a blower forcing more air into the motor). For those of you who keep saying "Heat doesn't drive the turbo" you are just wrong. Is there some electric fan or other such device pushing air thru the motor? Is it the action of the piston in the bore pushing the air? No! Cold air gets sucked into the motor and mixed with fuel which is ignited - BOOM! Big hot fire and expansion of gases (again, PV=nRT). This is used - partially used - to drive a piston and turn a crank. The rest of that left over hot gas is just chucked out where it expands down the exhaust tubes and out. It is Heat energy that is driving that air. Turbos scavenge some of that heat and squeeze some more mechanical work out of it. Letting the heat dissipate thru a long section of exhaust tubing before hitting the turbo is just not a good idea. I will give credit for the marketing and PR wizardy of these STS guys. This system is hugely inferior to a belt driven SC (due to lag, install complexity, etc.) and costs more, yet they are apparently selling many and signing up lots of dealers. I'm sure they're making alot of dollars.

Okay, I have a personality flaw. I must try one last shot at this. Read this thread: http://www.corner-carvers.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10173&highlight=camaro+turbo for some reality based commentary.

Okay, you convinced me. You should definitely buy this kit. You will obviously like it alot. Or you might consider the kit that I am going to make: I'm going to run a supercharger off the driveshaft.
-
Sorry tannji, jgkurz is correct and this "system" has been discussed quite a lot on other boards. It'll be about as effective as an electric supercharger in an hp/$ ratio. This scam - er, umm - system, operates on the misconception that turbos spool up from exhaust gas flow. More accurately, turbos spool due to high pressure heat from hot exhaust gases (PV=nRT: high T yields high pressure to spin the wheel). This heat is intense when it exits the combustion chamber, but dissipates very quickly. Try this experiment: start your car and let it warm up. Place your hand over the tailpipe. Note the soft warm air against your hand. Now go ahead and touch the exhaust manifold. Note the instantly melted flesh. And actually, that website is good for some funny misinfo. He sites this pic: as an example of a "bad" effect of an "underhood" (redundant term) turbo. The turbo is hot. Duh. The FAQ is extra entertaining - people like Scottie and James would love it.

Sounds like you don't favor democracy. If people are allowed to vote in a legitimate, fair election, then why do you think there is even a chance that they would vote someone into office if they don't want him there? Just to anticipate your next comment, no, I don't personally think that the Saddam era (pre-invasion) Iraqi elections were fair or valid. But the whole idea of these next ones is fairness, right? So what's the harm in letting a lunatic try a run for the office? I mean, do you think he can even get enough support to get on the ballot? I don't.
-
Well, if the trial is not over, then clearly the man has not been convicted. Not sure about the specifics of Iraqi law, but it certainly would be unfair to prevent someone who has merely been accused of a crime from running for political office. Think about it, a few weeks before an election, the ruling party could just arrest the opposition - not very democratic.

I have both 1 5/8 and 1 3/4. I got lots of different replies from various people, rulebooks, etc.

What type of tubing did you use?
-
How's the bender working? I was just attempting to clean my disaster of a garage and I couldn't help but ponder that $400 stack of tubing in there. Done with school and I'm pretty much ready to torture myself with a new project.

That is pristine compared to my car. I did remove both frame rails. Actually, the driver's side was fine - but I pulled it off anyway. It had some surface rust inside, but not too bad. If you do pull it, I recommend buing that spot weld removal tool that Eastwood sells. I used a drill bit and it was an ordeal. I replaced both of my rails with folded 14ga steel primed inside. I realize that much of the primer/coating will have been burned from welding, but, oh well. I also routed my fuel and brake lines thru the rail. If your's is an early car, you can put in extra long rails and fold them over and up to make subframe connectors. My work guesstimate is about 1 weekend per rail including all prep and paint, etc. Add an extra weekend if you choose to re-route lines.

Right. That will make them stop. In my experience, religious fundamentalists (be they christian or muslim) and angry insane people (same thing?) don't respond well to violent retribution. It's called a viscious cycle and it spirals out of control. In your example, exponentially accelerated chaos: they kill 1, we kill 3, they kill 9, we kill 27, etc, etc - lots of bodies piling up, on both sides. I think it sounds like you just want to kill everyone in the entire middle east. Which is possibly a valid concept - but it's just kinda hard to explain to your kids, you know? Personally, I just wish Powell didn't have the Wolfowitz/Cheney leash on him. Left to his own judgements, I think that man could really do some good things to at least tone all of this crap down.

Feeding the LS1, your thoughts please.

No, he hasn't got it quite yet I don't personally like the idea of running 2 pumps and 2 tanks. It just seems overly complicated - although it is well documented and widely used. I was planning on using the baffled tank, but then I priced out pump + FPR = pricey. That's why I chose the Camaro tank. It came with all I needed and was only $75. However, at some point when I have more dollars I do plan to switch to a fuel cell + pump + FPR. -
Shelby GR-1 Concept Somewhat similar. Both are very impressive.
