  1. Joyrides mostly involve a screwdriver through the Ignition switch tho... finding the keys there makes me wonder if the owners were like my grandpa, keeping the key tucked in the doc flap of the sun visor and never locking it. Ah, the grand old days when you could trust your rural neighbours and city scum couldn't afford cars on their govt unemployment handouts and couldn't make it to the countryside to harass farmers.
  2. My 1981 C21 Laurel Medallist I had in the early '00s with the L20E would cruise at 100Km/H at around 3500 to 3700 revs, and returned around 10 litres to the 100 Km. Quite respectable fuel mileage for an early 80's car with a 70's tech engine. The 1985 Toyota Surf (4-runner stateside) with the 3Y-J was geared to cruise at 100km/h at 2800-3000. Different makers, different philosophies.
  3. Carbon Tetrachloride? We used that at high school in the mid '90s in NZ... My gripe is I used to tan skins using a battery acid and salt recipe, now that sulphuric acid (what old lead batteries use, not so sure of the new calcium tech ones) is on the govt watch list due to being used in part of the Crystal Meth/P/Methamphetamine manufacture it is now a pain to get battery shops to give me any... Oh well, I'm in china, nothing to shoot and nothing to shoot it with here so no tanning skins until I get home to my trusty .303 and wild animals.
  4. Yeah, Insurance pays out on crashes and accidents, they don't pay out on cases of insurance fraud. Now it's just up to the jury to determine whether it is fraud, from the evidence in the media, I would say it is, but they will get more than what a casual browse of the internet shows.
  5. Here is a new engine option... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/car-manufacturers/porsche/9573500/Porsches-650000-918-Spyder.html?frame=2353753 The 918 uses a 580bhp/369lb ft dry-sump, flat-crank 4.6-litre V8 mounted longitudinally behind the cabin. however, 650,000 pounds sterling is a bit much!
  6. Nah, likely a Pontiac G8 by another name if it's a RWD 2012 Holden... Can they get away with doing up an older Holden based Pontiac GTO and calling it a 2012 on a new title? I would expect the Monaro chassis to be better than a Commodore chassis for a coupe donor shell.
  7. been in any wet weather? a leak somewhere funneling water into the oil?
  8. He's the only Peer Brock I knew of until I found HBZ and got to wondering about the mentions on here about a yank with the same name...
  9. Ford US has some L6's for dump trucks and the like I believe, but Ford Australia is a different ball game altogether.
  10. Get the L20ET intake and exhaust off a Skyline or other L20ET motor, and add an aftermarket EMS. That would be your best bang for the buck.
  11. No glass? so you get a breeze out through the rear hatch? Louvers like that are not uncommon on older cars as shade options, but they are usually stuck or glued or bolted or clamps over the existing rear window glass.
  12. The skills interface would flash the ID-10-T code a lot, indicating an error between the steering wheel and the drivers seat...
  13. Sounds like a short somewhere, since it is headlights and turn signals I would suspect your stalk assembly rather than wiring. probably easiest just to pick up a new assembly from a part-out someone is doing and replace it, then you can play forensic pathologist on the removed one and if it is fixable, store it as a spare if the replacement breaks too.
  14. Looks like something from the CARS movie... almost as bad as the Dodge pickup Corvette

    need Advice

I would advise getting one from Japan rather than the US... there are companies shipping japan auction cars to russia already, in qute large numbers. New Zealand Used Import cars hd a price hike some yearsback, NZ imports a lot of 5 to 7 year old cars from Japan, and when Russian buyer entered the market there, they pushed up prices NZ importers a to pa toget the same cars. One of the existing agents should be able to locate, purchase andship or you, and have a russian language contact.
  16. As far as I know, the liners are there to get hot and ignite any unburnt or partially burnt fuel if you are running rich or are having incomplete combustion in the cylinder due to the engine revving to fast to complete the burning in the cylinder. So where the unlined sensor might see oxygen and fuel, the lined exhaust sensor would see less oxygen as it would have been combined with the unburnt fuel to form exhaust gas. How MUCH the change would be would depend entirely on your tune and setup. I'm sure someone with more detailed knowledge will speak up soon.
  17. Looks suspiciously like a modified Mitsubishi EVO lip to me...
  18. Does the relay click? Swap in a known good relay and see what happens.
  19. If you want a Fairlady Z, ask on the NZ forum, www.zclub.org.nz and there may be a few floating around off donor cars.
  20. Doesn't the stock ECU Batch fire the injectors in two clusters? Check the ECU sticky for that, but I suspect the injectors may be getting bad info and not doing the job right on one batch. Borrow a known good ECU and plug that in place of yours and see what happens.
  21. Back in 2003 he WAS a member when this thread was started, sometime in the intervening years he (or she? probably he) must have become inactive and during some server/software migrations got bumped to "Guest" As to wheel choice, there is a range of old 70's and 80's wheels that will fit. Personally I have a set of Billet aluminum Boyd Coddingtons in 17x7 0 offset that will end up on my 280zx sometime...
  22. Do any sports cars come with a temp sensor in the brake calipers? like an oil temp warning sensor?
  23. Yeah, I know that treating stock stuff engineered for the common weekend/sporty commute driver as if it is race stuff is stupid. What I find disquieting is the sudden change from decent to zero as the fluid suddenly boils. A more gradual fade to warn you to back off would be better than having fun and suddenly finding yourself in front of saint peter.
  24. Does BMW make a Z1 coupe on the 1 series chassis like the Z3/M3 on the 3 series?
