  1. The "digging in" is my main concern. If I heat the paint and not the knife I might stand a better chance. I need something to practice on...like an old vette.
  2. That’s an interesting point of view that few would consider. Thanks.
  3. Dear Abby: I made my Fiber glass hood in the mid eighties and it has managed to accumulate three paint jobs since then. Ten years have passed since my last paint job and I feel it is now do for a repaint; however there seems to be the necessity to remove all these redundant layers of paint. I have fallen in love with my heat gun. It has stripped away paint on far more projects than there has been time to repaint. Rust runs rampant. My question is: Can any one see a problem with heat stripping a fiber glass hood? I know chemical stripper will work but I fear it might disturb the integrity of the gel coat underneath. 4. I laid the glass for my hood in the eighties and it is still holding its shape. It was built with standard glass and resins. Owen and Terry are probably the glass masters on this board. Seek them out for more info.
  5. I cut what was left of my floors out in the eighties and riveted in flat f’glass panels. The seats are attached to the tunnel and outer frame rails. The only thing left that the floor supports is some carpet and a lead foot. Edit: I say go for it.
  6. On my pump I used a six inch section of braded line before and after the pump. The thought was that the noise was being transmitted through the solid fuel lines and into the frame rails and surrounding body area. The pump already had a sleeve and mount insulators. It all works quietly now.
  7. Ya I have found the Poarche crew to be a pretty decent lot. A few times I have been past in a corner or past them on a straight and the reaction is usually a thumbs up or something positive. There are definitely good relations between the two marques.
  8. I tracked my shakes down to a loose lower joint assembly in the steering column. It was noticeable by a mechanical feel in the steering wheel. This was after I tried all the usual suspects, tie rod ends, balancing and a thorough ball joint and rack inspection.
  9. "What does a Lambourghini, Billy Idol, and sawzall have in common?" Two bodies and a tool! Unfortunately the right tool applied to the wrong body.
  10. Very impressive installation! Stacks are simple to make. You need to anneal the aluminum tubes on one end then whack ‘em with a steel ball to get the trumpet shape. But it would be a shame to split that beautiful manifold to put them in.
  11. What a jerk. The only thing of interest on his bio page is his new car. I have seen an enlarged picture of the Volvo and you should check out the imprint in the dust.
  12. I wasn’t aware that Z cars were at Bonneville let alone going that fast. 419.84 K is about 260 MPH. Pretty impressive!
  13. Same here. One hour to set up the machine. Two minutes to make or break the part in it. I think a CF bar would look nice. It would be a good area for experimentation because life goes on if the bar fails.
  14. Worlds fasted Z? Nice find Mat!
  15. The headers on this V12 were made with individual flanges. The thought was that any deformation would be taken up by the 36’ pipe. This is a 3.2.1 design with 304 tubing. The flanges were made from mild steel. Just something that was easier/faster to work with. No problems in 6 years.
  16. Vice Grips; A great tool for rounding off nuts/bolts, much quicker that the old wrenches, allows MUCH more force to be applied before slipping, causing even greater blood and skin loss. Guilty! Last summer. No blood loss. Could see my knuckle bone. Then it got infected… This tool has been replaced by the pipe wrench.
  17. Oh my god…. "build us a shrubbery."
  18. The car is at a shop near where I work. I think I might go check it out. There is a black turbo 911 there as well. I’m afraid if I go I might come home with the Porsche. The GTO is up against real Ferraris for the same amount of money. Should be interesting to see what happens…if anything at all.
  19. Nice build up. The hybrids are starting to fetch bigger dollars. http://www.daytonaauto.ca/car.php?name=--Ferrari-GTO
  20. The guy doing the tin work knows his stuff. Nice work.
  21. “just a little sleeperâ€. One goes down the track on three wheels? Nice video Hanns …Thanks for sharing.
  22. I don’t like this thread…I’m going back under the car. '71 240 Still over 3000.
  23. If you commend a friend for saving a few small parts knowing full well you have a spare engine stashed somewhere.
  24. When I turn mine real hard the wheels rub the frame. You can’t get any tighter than that.
  25. Or you know your parts guy so well he says “Go in back, have a look and see what you can find that fits.†Or you know your car’s serial number, but can’t remember your own zip/postal code.
