  1. Congrats Just follow the rules and you marriage will last, Always get the last word in every argument "YES Dear". And it is an equal partner ship with her having the controlling vote, as you can attest to by wedding. Hey I have been married for 35 years and it works for us. Have a Happy Life Time Together.
  2. You missed the BMW 700, Use to kick everyones *** in the small sedan class in SCCA racing back in the 60s. Here are some more BMW 1800 ti TR6 TR4
  3. From your picture you will be running the fan allot. You have lost allot the ram effect going trough your radiator. I would move the intercooler back against the radiator. An old sailing rule is air is deflected about 6 times the sail height. The air that goes over the intercooler will reach the radiator but most of the air deflected off of the bottom will go under the car. But it could work great after all.
  4. This is what I have, one of the old heavy office desks with the round corners. I installed a piece of plywood across the bottom to set my mig welder on. It is on wheels and has a piece of ¼†steel on the top. For what they sell for at used office places you can’t buy the steel for the base. Also the doors are great to have. Mine is also on wheels to move around the garage as needed. These things are built heavy enough to put an engine on if needed.
  5. Clifton I am just a light weight when it comes to AZ heat. Spend over half of my time in Alaska so no time to acclimate to the summer heat. In August swamp coolers are all but useless with the monsoons. I have my house for sale right now to get out of that heat. Have a contract to buy this place in Montana. And the garages are heated. Only 8 garage doors an only one Z project what I am going to do.
  6. The white smoke on start up is the one of the products of burning the gas H2O. When the exhaust system is cold the water condenses out of the exhaust until the system heats up. You might want to do a pressure test on your cooling system and see if it holds pressure. I have a gauge set up that plumbers use to test gas systems to test my cooling system.
  7. There are too many flexible body fillers out there, "ANY BONDO IS TOO MUCH". I would not use any BONDO anymore since I found out about the new flexible body fillers. Also I have found filling small holes like trim holes to solder them up with 50 50 solder if you do not have a MIG welder.
  8. Looks Great, Nice Job. You must have an air conditioned garage to do that work in the summer in Arizona. I haven't touched my Z project all summer, after 10 minutes I am sweating like a pig, no enjoyment working on it.
  9. From your drawing I would worry about front end lift at speed. Zs have enough trouble getting the heat out of the engine compartment so some type of side vents would be required.
  10. My dad ran a Ford V8 60 in his midget back in the late 40s. From his stories, you know how most old men embellish there stories with age, Heads and a cam would about double the 60 stock HP. He cut the bell housing off of the engine with a hacksaw and bolted a file on the end of the crank to machine back of the engine by hand to allow bolting on an in and out box. I think a flat head belongs on a hot rod not in a Z. But if it is your dream, do it and send us the pictures of the Offenhauser heads and triple down draft carbs.
  11. I do not know where you live, but in Arizona those canvas garages do not last a year. The sun breaks down the fabric and the wind does the rest. You might want to look at one of the metal car ports that Home Depot sells for less than $2000. You could enclose the rest of the sides with fiberglass panels.
  12. I just bought a supertrapp last month off of ebay. Have not installed it but it also has the plate design so you can adjust the sound level. These are used on some of the race tracks for sound control.
  13. This information is on DCOE webers but has a lot of good information. http://www.teglerizer.com/dcoe/dcoeinfopages.htm
  14. I am going to look at this place on Friday. A ten stall garage with 9 heated and 7 garage door openers. My wife might kill me tying to fill all of the garages!
  15. On my forced induction set up I am looking at using a VW Electric Vacuum pump for the brakes and heater system. VW make one for its diesel cars for the brake booster. This is not exactly what the brake one is but will bive you the idea. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Central-Locking-Vacuum-pump-VW-Quantum-santana-locks_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42612QQitemZ7989862351QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
  16. I didn't see anywhere he admits to it being a rebodied Z but from the pictures it looks and smells like a Z so it must be one. It looks like a high quality kit. Bid is up to $43.1K. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1962-Fe-ra-i-GTO-1-off-replica_W0QQitemZ4569270456QQcategoryZ7251QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
  17. Slownrusty shows how he refinished his intercooler. I looks like paint to me. Paint is an insulator, the black finish that the factory puts on intercoolers is anitization, which is not an insulator. If you paint your intercooler you will loose efficiency ie higher discharge temperatures compared to no paint.
  18. I have a 2 stage catalytic converter and a Chevy electric air pump that I am planning on installing to pass the test. I have not tried it yet but for less than $70 on ebay in parts it was way cheaper than having someone try to tune my side drafts. It has flanged connections so I can put it in as needed.
  19. Do you really think that if Honda, Nissan, Toyota and the rest could get a car to get 200 mpg they would let a patent stop them. For years Japan has not accepted our patent laws. Honda worked for several years trying to develop the ceramic motor. Lean an engine out and you will melt it. If you look at the thermal efficiency to get 200 mpg out of a gallon of gas in a car it would be over 1 and that is not possible.
  20. Check this our some of your answers http://www.superchargeronline.com/hp_calculator.asp 1) On a stock 5.0 with ~9:1 static compression it is found that a non intercooled supercharger can run a maximum of 9psi of boost without detonation. The effective compression is ~14.5:1 and 320 peak rwhp is produced. 2) Same engine/supercharger combination but with low compression 8:1 pistons installed. It is found that a maximum of 13 psi can be run without detonation. Effective compression is again ~14.5:1 but significantly more air is allowed to enter the combustion chamber. Peak rwhp is now 380. In both cases the same octane fuel is used.
  21. It all depends on what design you are building. I would use A36 carbon steel for a starting point.
  22. For Autocross I would think about installing power steering unless you have arms of steel. I think that you should look at the suspension and brakes first and drive it that way to see what you have and then think about installing the different motor.
  23. I used both the double sided tape and added countersunk screws on the side moldings to hold them in place and take the twist out of them. I also had to add fiberglass to the under side of the rear bumper to close in the gaps. I used flexible body filler on gaps and to cover the screws.
  24. Just put a hidden shut off switch on the fuel pump, no gas no run. There was a guy that I talked to with a 911, carbed model, that was stolen more than once. He put a locking shut off valve in the fuel line. It was stolen again but was found in the middle of the street in front of his house.
