  1. Or have you thought of this 944 Porsche transaxel. I almost bought an entire car for $400 with bad body and motor. I still kick myself on that one. The Porsche guys are putting V8s in the 924s & 944s.
  2. Go the other way build a 302. Use a 327 block and 283 crank, the Camaro Z28 motor from 67 to 69. Chevy’s highest revving V8.
  3. Do not expect the MSA kit to fit right on. My front bumper fit great, the rear had 3/8" gaps across the rear and 1/4" on one side. Had to add glass on the underside of the bumper to fill the gaps, it would be easiert to trim to fit than to fill gaps. The side pods were warped and had cracking in the jell coat. The kit is now on the car but MSAs quality control on these parts could be better. 8)
  4. I found this picture of blow through webers with turbo. It does look neat. Peugeot 205 2.0L 14 psi boost & 250 BHP.
  5. Most auto mechanics piece work or flat rate a project. If you are good and fast you make more money by beating the flat rate time. If you are slow or have problems you can end up making less than minimum wage! Right out of school the probability of meeting or beating the flat rate times is low due to lack of experience. The dealer might offer a flat $25/hr to the mechanics on flat rate. Also from a friend of mine who is a Service Rep at a dealer, if it is slow the mechanics are not going to get their 40 hrs in per week, they only get paid the flat rate for the jobs they do.
  6. This is the shade tree mechanic way. At idle pull one of the plug wires at a time. If the knock goes away when you pull one of the plug wires that cylinder has the bad rod.
  7. I am in the middle of designing my supercharging system for my Z. I did a search on this and could not find any information. How does the brake booster work on a turbo ZX? The only time that the turbo engine has vacuum is at idle, so does where does the brake booster get the vacuum to operate? Also does the ZX have the vacuum system to operate the heater controls like the 240-280Z?
  8. Most Turbo/Supercharged motors are low compression around 8 to 1. The compression ratio is upped by the boost pressure. From the information that I have found for every 1 psi of boost you are looking at about a 7% hp gain. I have a 260Z with a 280 motor. I am it the middle of the design phase of installing a supercharger with carburetion. I do not have to deal with lubrication on a supercharger. Suck through is the simpler of the options. You can still have all of your vacuum operated systems work, heater controls, vacuum advance, brake booster, and do not have to deal with fuel pressure changes due to boost. Eaton does not recommend using their superchargers wet. The rear bearing are grease packed without seals. I have found a couple of TR6s with Eaton superchargers using a large single SU carb. I have went back and forth on which way to go and have everything fit in the space available. With the Eaton M62 supercharger that I have the best place to fit it is where the air conditioner compressor used to be. This puts the carburetor next to the exhaust header, not a good placement. I bought an Edelbrock performer 4 barrel it will not fit in this space between the strut tower and the manifold. Bought it on ebay sell it on ebay. So watch the 4 barrel dimensions. Also there are a lot of places for fuel to accumulate in the piping especially with inter cooling. I was planning on using an intake manifold off of a 280z and plug the injectors and all of the other non needed openings. Last weekend I scored a set of triple 45 mm SK Racing carbs and manifold and am now looking at forced induction. These carbs like Webers and have the float bowl vent on the face of the carb on next to throat and do not have to be boxed in. According to my Weber book will work with forced induction. I’m looking at using a piece of 4†square tube stock for the intake header manifold. There is the problem of vacuum to be addressed. A MSD adjustable ignition box will have to be used on for the distributor advance. I have found a fuel pressure regulator that will adjust with manifold pressure. But there are still a lot to be worked out. Here is a picture of a 240z with a wet supercharger
  9. I came off of a Mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor.
  10. I have a fixed pulley size on the supercharger of 3.5" Dia. with the electric clutch on the supercharger. So all changes have to go on the crank side. 8)
  11. I am also new to the triple scene. Went to buy a 5 speed for $75 and came home with a set of triple SK Racing Carbs for an extra $100, not a bad day at all. From all of the searches, most of the information from zcar.com, I have done they are a cross between a Weber and Makuni. Have not had the time to really get into them as yet. From the Weber book that I have, forced induction is possible with this design of Carb. If anyone has information on SK Racing Carbs, I would appreciate information. 8)
  12. I found this and it looks neat for the lower pulley. The center addapter would have to be machined but changing boost after that would be simple. http://www.rpmoutlet.com/lightaspm.htm 8)
  13. I found this on Zcar.com on Sk racing Carbs Here is a breakdown of the parts: The following are interchangeable with the Weber DCOE carburetors: Main jets Air correctors Idle jets Emulsion tubes Pump exhaust valves Pump rod, spring and piston Auxiliary venturis (45 DCOE only) The following are interchangeable with Mikuni PHH late model carburetors: Pump jets (Mikuni calls these pump nozzles) Floats Needle Valves Fuel Union Banjos (I think Mikuni calls these Fuel Pipe Assemblies)
  14. I just picked up a triple set up of SK Racing Carbs. From what little information I can find they are Weber Clones made in Japan. The air cleaner end measures 48 mm. There is no model number on the carbs. Any information would be appreciated. 8)
  15. Well there was a change of plans today. Went out to buy a 5-speed for the Z and came home with a 5 speed and a set of triple SK racing carbs and manifold. Couldn't pass them up for $100. So will go to blow through forced induction. From my Weber book it will work. Will still have a check valve on a second air filter so supercharger does not have to run all of the time. 8)
  16. The First Law of Thermodynamics “Energy cannot be destroyed; it Travels for an area of high concentration to low concentration." Space is a vacuum and is thus a great insulator. The earth has to be the heat sink. This is not to say that this warming trend did not start before the industrial revolution. I was just at Exit Glacier in AK a month ago. There are signs going up to it showing where face was over the last 300 years. The natural geologic proceess of the Earth has a lot to do with it. A major geologic event could cause another Ice Age. But with all of the energy that is being consumed on earth now, we are a cause of some of the warming that is taking place.
  17. Wasn’t it Ronald Reagan who said that we “Cannot leave this debt to our grandchildren?†You cannot pay off the debt by cutting taxes. We are sending jobs overseas, our tax base overseas. The Republicans are stating this is good for business, profits are up. We are going to retrain our work force that is being outsourced with 2 years of college? A lot of these jobs that are being outsourced are high-tech, these people have college degrees. Most of these republicans that are pushing for cutting taxes call themselves Reagan Republicans, what about that debt? We need to look at cutting government; there is a lot of waste there. The democrats are tax and spend the republicans are spend and spend. But with a war, with out planning after the country’s army was defeated, it is an open money pit. Watch some old WW II war movies about the French and Philippines resistance during their occupations. Same situation same results. How would you feel if we were invaded and occupied by some country, we would get our guns and fight a guerrilla war? They would call us Insurgents. We only have one planet to live on. We need to leave this place to our children cleaner than it is now, or shall we let industry do whatever it wants. If it is cheaper to dump it to the environment than pay the cost to dispose of properly, profits dictate. I am an Independent; I have both liberal views and conservative views. We need to stop all this unneeded litigation, people have to take responsibility not everything is perfectly safe. Our environment needs to be protected. We need to close our borders from illegal immigrants. The Republicans want the cheap labor the Democrats want the voting base. Most politicians think the American public is stupid. Those so called debates were just a set up. They both knew the questions before hand. We have to read between the lines to find some type of truth.
  18. I am starting on a supercharger project using a SLK Mercedes supercharger. It has the electric clutch that you are looking for. It is an Eaton M62 supercharger with 1 liter displacement, bought it off of ebay for $200.
  19. It is required by OSHA to wear a full body harness.
  20. I found a 240z supercharged Z in NY on the internet. Here is a video link of him showing off his hp with 5 psi of boost on a 280zx turbo motor. It does look like fun to have the HP! http://www.zccr.net/site/modules.php?set_albumName=album26&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php&page=2
  21. I would go to factory five racing and use there front suspensions set up. You can use the late model Mustang lower A arm, brakes, steering rack and use their upper A arm addapter. They also have a set-up for an IRS using the T-Bird IRS as a donor.
  22. It is less than 1/4" thick. I used “BONDO†brand when I set the vents against the inter side of the fender and bolted them on. I tapered the edges fenders to mold them in. I used the NAPA fiber filler and Bond on the edges. What I would like to find is something that I can use on the tighter radius where the cracking is occurring along the top and bottom.
  23. I installed some side vents off a Camaro on my fenders. Installed them on the inside and attacted them with flat head screws and molded them in with bondo and fiber filler. I keep getting some small crack on some of the edges due to the difference in expansion of the plastic and the metal after a couple of weeks of sitting, it is hot in Arizona. I want to solve the problem before the final paint! What is the most flexible body filler that I can use around the edges to stop the cracking?
  24. Why not drill the camaro hubs between the existing studs with the ford patern and use the ford on the rear? It would definitly be the cheaper option and the camaro drilled rotors are availible at a reasonable price.
  25. I was searching for this topic earlier today, 5 lug. And there is a lot to go through on the web site. Ok I now have a plan for the front of my Z, Camaro rotors and 4-Runner calipers. I would also would like to find reasonable way to modify the rear to Chevy pattern. Thanks for the post.
