  1. Thanks man! But unfortunately I don't have any way of sending money. I'm gonna try at a local junkyard tomorrow
  2. So I've had my eyes on a ls1 engine and a bunch of parts I couldn't identify at my cousins shop. I've just about got my dad sold on the idea of swapping a Chevy V8 into my 260Z and he actually seems really interested. (probably because it's GM) AAnyway I was wondering about your rear end setups on your V8 swapped Z's I know the common option is a R200 LSD or welding a R180 but I'm still kinda anxious about putting close to 350 hp to the wheels on a 40 year old car. Also I need help IDing the engine its self. It's an aluminum block LS1 so I know it's a car engine but I'm unsure about the displacement. I remember somebody at a family reunion saying something about a 5.3l at their shop but I thought the 5.3's were truck engines? My dad swears my cousin got the engine out of a Corvette a few years back but I'm not sure. Thank you guys! PS; I know many people will get the exhaust manifolds off of a Vortec truck to modify into a turbo manifold and I was wondering what the most common truck you can get the manifolds off of is?
  3. Only car I've seen my Z next to is a 70 something Trans Am and they are truely boats. A Toyota Cressida looks small compared to them
  4. Let's see my PO bondo'd the ENTIRE car (I think). I can tell it was hit on the drivers rear but its just a small dent. Pretty sure he just riveted license plates in the floor pans over the rust holes. Random 2 way momentary switch no clue what it goes to. 2 wires that appear out of no where with a place to put a double A battery in near the console. Lets see he bought an automatic Z (First and largest mistake). Put some hideous "Hot Wheels" looking wheels on it and then to top EVERYTHING off he left it outside, under a large oak tree for close to 5 years with a full tank of gas@! So there's a good bit of rust mainly in the floor area (FIXED) and then its not too big of an issue but there were acorns literally everywhere! When we first started it it honestly sounded like gunfire from blowing all of the nuts out of the exhaust
  5. DUDE keep this thing coming! Your progress is inspiring to stop dicking around on my 260z and actually get to work! Keep up the good/ fast work man looks great!
  6. I'll PM it to you I probably would'nt want my name on a website lol. But he has an x7 and an x8 both with VVT-I 1j's one has a w59 tacoma transmission and the x8 has the almight R154. He dd's and drifts the x7 and the x8 is solely drifitng
  7. If I'm not mistaken you could just get some of the wide ZG flares and they should be about the same http://www.jpngarage.com/jdm-fender-flares.html check there
  8. my buddy has two VVT-I 1j swapped cressida's that he daily drives and says he gets pretty good mileage if he stays out of boost. I don't have any specific numbers but he usually only puts $10 on 93 octane at the pump and it usually lasts him about half a day and thats with occasional pulls and drifting. So if you can resist getting into the good part of you JZ engine you should be good.
  9. Sorry to post something that isnt necassarily related but I didn't want to make a whole new thread for it. Do any of you guys have pictures of your fuel cells in the spare compartment with the fuel lines already ran? And also I'd be interested to see how you sectioned the fuel cell from the main part of the cab. Thanks!
  10. haha yeah after vigorous rethinking I guess I'll find another way to hold something over it so if God forbid some teenage girl decides to rear end me I don't get bathed in gasoline
  11. Guess I found what I'm gonna hold the fuel cell cover in with!
  12. These four straps came with my Z and I'm trying to figure out what they go to. I've seen pictures of the factory interiors and they look like the ones that hold the cover over the spare compartment. Help?
  13. An update guys! It's alright the rust was merely a patch that someone had welded over the frame and the worst part was just inner fender! So we made a new patch and welded it in and started on the drivers floor pan today. But I assure you the Z is as good as it's ever been! At least while I've owned it
  14. Every year my father and I go to this massive swap meet held at Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte North Carolina. Let me be the first to say that this place is RIDICULOUS. Any fancy could be tickled there as the entire track is covered in cars and a large majority of the infield too. Then any spot that isn't occupied by a car are venders selling God only knows what. I mean I've seen it all from Lamborghini parts to props from airplanes. I can't necessarily guarantee a large turnout for Z cars but I am almost positive there should be a few there. Here's the link to it and if you're are nearby or just have a weekend to kill I would recommend going for sure! www.charlotte-autofair.com/
  15. So to sum everything up. If you had a 260z a fairly low budget and a cousin with an aluminum block LS1 would you go with it over a VVT-I 2JZ?
  16. My cousin has an aluminum black ls1 and what I assume to be T56 manual transmission sitting at his shop which I feel that if I showed enough interest in I could get for a decent price. Only problem with that is that I've already decided that I want this Datsun to be turbocharged and I feel like an ls that makes roughly 300 he (sorry if that's horribly incorrect) would already be a riot in a car that weighs like 2600 lbs. Then to add on to that a turbo would make the car generally Un-safe because I plan on daily driving this in most if not all conditions. I'd like some feed back on how you all like your ls swaps and if you would recommend it. Thanks guys! - Grayson. Ps; another reason I feel like this swap is more practical is because my dad is an absolute die hard GM fan and would prefer an American V8 compared to a foreign in line 6
  17. Yeah same here I'd really just like to get this thing on the road SHowmanship be damned. At least for the underside any way. Since when do shows involve a lift?
  18. Yeah I think that's the route we're gonna go. Only thing is my dad is really losing interests because it seems like it's 1 step forward and 15 backwards. And as for the 260jz duuude my mouith starts watering at the slight mention of it but as of right now I feel like any power more than a Briggs and Straton would cause havoc. The cressida is in all around good shape body wise little to no rust just some shotty spot welds but Meh. It's painted like a WW2 bomber plane too haha complete with the Smile and everything. Today we can hopefully start pulling the drive train to assess the situation but I dont have high hopes seeing as the Pass. side floor pan was even worse than the drivers.
  19. Hopefully we can get the drivetrain out to really assess the problem but as of right now it's looking grim for the ol' Datsun. Would the baddog 240z rails work on a early 260z? Or are there any more options avaliable out there for 260's in particular?
  20. We found today that the frame is pretty rusty on the drivers side and the problems are starting to pile up. It's getting down to some serious decision making time. We don't want to spend anymore on swapping it or fixing it up anymore only to end up not being able to drive it. Luckily I've located a Toyota cressida. Sorry Datsun guys but a rowdy ass JZ X chassis will always have a place in my heart. (First turbo car I ever rode in was one) Anywho I guess if we decide to cut our losses I will likely part it out. Just gotta make a donation so I can sell on here. I'd really like to save this car but this damn South East rust has just gotten to it. Sorry Z didn't even get to drive it
  21. So my floor pans fromhttp://www.thezstore.com/pathing/PROD/30-7317 Arrived and we started attempting to install them. Well everything is going well thank you for asking. Except We've met a small snag. Right below the little recessed cup thing where the seat belt retractor sits was a little rusted out and it's at a weird angle to where we don't think we can just weld some sheet metal in there. I don't have a good picture but will get one shortly today. If you guys have ever ran into this problem let me know how you surpassed it. It's the place where the driver floor pan stops and the slanted piece starts up. Only pictures I got.
  22. Haha alright thanks man. I guess where ever you live is similar to me where they couldn't care less about exhaust. I wanna have an open down pipe for a little while. Just to rattle a few brains
  23. Well that was all it took. Say do you have any pictures laying around of the external view of the side pipe?
  24. My only true desires to do this is the want to JZ swap it this summer. I admit I haven't really researched alot on the rigidity of the 260z rear end but it seems like problems would become known very fast if one were to put a fair amount of power to the rear wheels. It wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit to sell the thing but i feel like it can and will work excellently. I'd really like to see some pictures of the subframe installed in cars. (Coupes if possible)
  25. This is the best price I've been able to find that isn't on ebay or fake. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/classic08b03 They also have a plethora of Z parts from s30's up to 370z's. My dad ordered my floor pans from them a few days ago and they're supposed to be in tomorrow.
