  1. Sorry, I don't know anything about msns, but welcome to the board and good to see another okie.
  2. I came across this realitivly new site while reading an article in a cool newish mag I've been getting lately. It really apeals to me and I figured it will be a hit with most of you all as well. Let me know what you think.... The magazine is MAKE, which covers simple to very complex projects for us DIY'er on how to do TON's on things, from making marshmellow guns to free satelite tv, to my newest favorite...building and electric car! http://www.makezine.com/ Web site... basically a subsidiary of the magazine, from the hokey to the cool ***. http://www.instructables.com/
  3. Me either... Make a clock for the garage out of it
  4. Looking further into it, Cam and Kit is 350! (Kit = Lifters,Springs,Retainers,Seals) Lifters alone are $77 and the Cam alone is 153. ish. So if if the springs in my edelbrock heads are ok ( are they? )to run with this cam, I'll just need the Lifters for a total of $230. It looks like I'd have a hard time selling the cam. (Iv'e posted the pistons I have twice! on Ebay w/ no bids, cheap too!) The reason I am going through all this angst (sp?) is that I've spent a decent chunk, (not a ton) on this build, took all the (new in box from another project not finished) edelbrock parts as a deal, because I saw it as one and figured that I could just run with it. I guess my decision here is to listen to good advise and spend more $$ now and have the better torque curve and more HP, or run with what I have and be satisfied. I honestly think that I'll be happy with the parts I have for quite some time. Even once the thing is tuned up and running perfectly, I still have the interior, paint and all that jive to get finished. By the time I have all that sorted, it will probably be time to build another motor. Do I sound like a girl here or what? Geesh!
  5. I don't know if anyone does it or not but I imagine you could grind it, which is what I think they do to the flywheel. Could be difficult though just the way the PP's are laid out. I've wondered the same...
  6. Cam is 160, I am guessing I could sell mine for 50-60 bucks? Wife says she doesn't care as long as it doesn't make the car louder? So the only question is will the springs on the EDDY heads I have be ok with this cam? I'll see if I can find a deal on it somewhere. Yes, Grumpy is the engine (and now garage) master...
  7. With the cam I have.... With the Crower Grumpy suggests...
  8. gotcha, when I get there, I may post pics to ensure i'm doing this right!
  9. They are out of stock on the one you listed here!!!! Is there a better shape or size to use? I'll pick up several. UH....and do i epoxy them into my ALUM heads??? Just orderd them they have them in stock on their new catalog pages.
  10. Will do, I'll probably post the graph this weekend, gotta run to Houston for work tomorrow. Edit: Wow! I just looked at the lift, seems much milder, but that probably just show's what I know! Very little. I'll DD it and share the wealth Thanks Grumpy! I aslo want you to know I'm using one of the D. Vizard Books to step by step check and build this sbc. Just to let you know that your MEGA DATA posts are not in vane! The only thing I question in the book is the break in procedure, drive it easily for xxxx miles. This is old school rule of thumb right? Shouldn't I do the cam break-in once started, then the on off throttle to seat the rings? Just wondering.
  11. Was thinking about this on the way home from work. I'll price the new cam / lifter kit, and I'll try to sell the cam I have to make up the difference. If grumpy suggested it, I'm sure it's worth the little bit of money I'll end up being out. DOH, can't bump up the Compression any, pistons are in the motor. I'm stuck with 9.5, so is there a better cam for a daily driver that sounds good w/ 9.5? Otherwise what I have will be getting slid into place this weekend.
  12. Do it. The granit tile counter tops will not be advertized as tile, they'll be advertized as granite. Do the nil grout joints with a grout that very closely matches the tile color. If you do a good job an keep everything level, they it will be hard to tell durring the walk through and when the do realize, most folks will be like hmm.. To me, as long as it looks good people wont care, for a 100K house the tile will be tons better than formica. Just my .02
  13. Oh, and can ANYONE use some standard bore pistons?
  14. I hear you grumpy, and thanks for chiming in w/ those suggestions but I am running the parts listed, I am sure that there are better pieces to use in conjunction, but I let the deal give me the parts that I'll use. IF I am going to get this thing runnig, I have to stick with what I have so I can afford all the nickle and dime stuff to get it running. So, with the parts listed, is there any reason to advance or retard the timing by 4 deg? Pros/Cons either way.
  15. Saturday I picked up ALL my stuff from the machine shop and I'm happy w/ it! Sat Afternoon i cleaned the crank and got it in the block. Also got the piston ring gaps checked and on the pistons. Sun Afternoon I got the pistons in the block.. I'll take some pictures when I get the bag off of it next weekend. Couple of things. On the timing chain, there is an option to advance or retard the timing by 4 deg. With the cam I am using, is there any reason to do either? I understand what it will do, but is it worth messing with and how will it really change the way the engine reacts? I STILL have these standard bore pistons!!! I've listed them here and on ebay twice for pretty cheap. They are about 265 new, they are KB hypers w/ a 12cc dish. If any one here knows anyone who might want them holler, I want to get them out of the garage before I decide to make a mobile out of them!!!. I'll keep plugging on the engine, and working on my clutch solutions. Thanks for your support....
  16. thanks for the detailed info PP, I'll take a look at the tilton stuff soon...
  17. So will these TOBearings work with the stock alum tilted camero bellhousing? Watching this thread CLOSELY!!!
  18. If nothing else you can clean up the intake and the valve covers and hang them on the wall... Cool
  19. I think he's going to loose money just posing that stuff on Ebay. He's got about 80 bucks worth of bids going but with all those auctions, the fee's have to be close to that! What a mess eh?
