  1. Painless was nice for me because I am a beginner when it comes to wiring and circuits and all that, so it was worth the $$ for me. If you can build your own from components, that's probably the way to go. If the ZX wiring is anything like the old Z's, stay away, they suck. Just my opinion.
  2. STILL pretty unique, what do you need to do? Special cam or much more than that?
  3. Funny, did you find any pics? I need to start a album on here soon. but the big question is, you going to buy this thing? I think it's meant to be.
  4. BiltWel, i do hear him when that stuff happens! But it's coming from me, it's weird but kinda like being 'home'. Thanks
  5. Just thought I'd close this one out! Well it's not totally finished but, are they ever? I'll see if I can dig up the before and post some afters too. To finish up the floors I need to get rid of this, so anyone in the area feel free to take it off my hands! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7230103948&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
  6. Just reading through some old posts and wanted to thank you all again. It's been well over a year now, and I really wish he was still around but I do know he's better off where he is. Still some things to settle up in probate, man that isn't the easiest thing to do! And I still need to deal w/ his house, I think we are just going to have it demo'd, sad to see the place where you grew up go completely away but it's become a huge liability and it isn't marketable. Anyway, thanks again guys, this place is the best!
  7. It's getting there! Shortblock couple of weekends ago before I pressed on the HB. Heads are on it now. Need to check the valve train geometry still, been sick the last two weekends so not much going on. Just thought I'd post this up like I said I would. Don't mind the mess, I keep the stuff that needs to be CLEAN! (I only have a two car w/ one in it)
  8. Is the engine and trans in the car? I noticed the car sitting agains a block and was just wondering.
  9. I guess I'll leave them as is and if I have issues, do it again. Thanks.
  10. another good deal I thought i'd pass along... http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZbrokntool Just remember not to bid on anything i'm watching
  11. good deal for a race car! Just thought it was interesting. Not what I need http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VERY-NICE-Tilton-Magnesium-SBC-Bellhousing-Set_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33732QQitemZ8046936558QQrdZ1
  12. Let me know how you like them, what size master you running?
  13. Looks like Pete Paraska has all the answers! Looking at the Tilton 61-615 and 61-601 prices are pretty comparable unless you look at summit, man they are way above the other guy's Pete mentioned. Just one question, which master cyl size do I need to run? I ran through the tech stuff on the tilton site but didn't see a recomended size for these two pieces. Also, some sites picture a hose w/ the HTB, is that included or do I need to get one seperatly? I'll look at what length i need. Thanks guy's i'll be ordering this stuff soon!
  14. ran across another piece in the attic, not sure where it went specifically but I'll throw it in there... You still interested, postage shouldn't be much more than 5 or 6 bucks.
  15. any comments on the head gaskets? I searched but didn't come up w/ much.
  16. W/ Tony, leave them, they'll be worth having at some point, unless you are totally finished with the project are are just trying to clean up the engine bay. I'd say it's overkill unless this is a show only car. Just my opinion.
  17. got the heads on yesterday! SLOW going but I don't want to mess anything up. As for the head gaskets I used felpro. They were blue w/ metal rings around the cyl walls only. I didn't really gather from the Felpro instructions OR mr. vizzards book on whether I should have used sealer or not. The hinted towards not but I'd like to be sure. I did use a bit where the block surface was a bit washed out by coolant flow / rust. Any thoughts? Next up is checking pushrod length, lots of reading to do but In only have one lenth of rod, which came w/ the motor. I'll see how close they are and go from there.
  18. The major reason I got into this project was to learn about and go through every system in an auto. I've alway's wanted a V8 Z and was finally in a place where I could ,slowly, afford to rebuild one. I do most of my work alone, but wouldn't mind help now an again. None of the guy's i hang with are really into cars, they think I'm going to kill my self w/ this car. There is one other guy on this forum that is close that I'm sure would help if I ask, but I always feel guilty because I know how busy he is on his own projects and work. So, alone it is most of the time. I read alot, and have leared tons while doing this one totally alone. Of course I'm not really alone, you guy's are always here to answer just about and stupid question I can come up with. Thanks! Oh, and the local Z club guys told me that a V8 in a Z totally ruins every positive aspect of the car. Been to a couple of meetings like 3 years ago and won't be back till the local car show or track day to 'learn' them!
  19. what I found was the section of harness that hooks up to the combo switch, ignition switch, and just about anything else underneath the driverside of the dash. The one end has all the small connectors that go to the variouse switches and stuff, the other end has two larger black connectors that go into the rest of the dash harness. It is in good condition but, the guy that had the car before me made some 'changes'. Looks like all the conectors are still on it and all that. Yours for shipping and whatever you want to donate to my Z fund Let me know if you can use it and all your postal info.
  20. i'll take a look but i can't promise i din't throw it away... I'll let you know next week after I rummage this weekend through all my stuff. I'm pretty sure it's gone, but it won't hurt to look
  21. Tell me how this activity keeps idiots from racing on the street?
  22. Shortblock is complete! I'll take some pics this afternoon Everything is going together well, not rushing anything. I'm stoked!
