I went ahead and cut up my guage housings, the mounting will be great. But word of warning, if you plan on doing this, you may want to use ELECTRIC guages. I am an mechanical guage kinda guy and all of the 2-5/8 guages have these huge recepticals on the back. I am going to need to modify the rubber covered mouning straps on the dash and the guage housing to alow the recepticals to poke through. Not a big deal but would be done already if they were electrical. I need to take some pics when I am finished. I guess the weather strip will suffice for the speedo and tach.

I think the reason those guages are so expensive, about 320 per dual guage, is that they have microprocessors. They can show your max and min and i think adverage readings, you can set them to send signals for relay to operate fans or pumps at certain set intervals. They are the SH!T but, yeah about 650 for two housings and four guages, they aint cheap. Maybe next time, I couln't justify them on this project.

Not to steal this post but is there a lesser version of the g-force? I'm with mike, I don't think you need all that toughness for a mainly street driver. Woulndn't mind having one but they are cost prohibitive. I would like to see a mild rebuild kit that bumps in hp/tq ratings for anything under 400 units of either measure.

GUY, man you did get a great deal! I only paid a bit less, although my Z did have a bit of rust. Can't wait to see it in person. I guess your trip home was ok. So how soon are you going to tear in to her? -
And the glare would hit EVERYONE. DId you see the pic of it next to that fence? All those white dots of light on the fence? I think Nic is right, probably not legal.

GO BLACK

but still lighter than a SBC or Stock 6er right?

leave well enough alone, i love that purple, black cherry color

I think that is a common problem with early z's, my 260 does the same thing. Look around, I am pretty sure there is a tech artical on this. Might not be on this site.

AND, it weighs LESS. Someone please do this swap, because I din't have the B@LLS TO. There is a Turbocoupe sitting right across the street, could have the whole car for 400 bucks. Alas I have already bought a GM T5 and I am not sure my fuel system would support it. Want to but all the wiring, vacume crap on that OEM motor scares me.

Your opinions on my fuel cell and mounting... UPDATE 1/16
BillZ260 replied to BillZ260's topic in Fuel Delivery
That was clean! I guess a cover would look better than just a tube. I can not fab like that though. I don't have the tools or experience. Might have to get someone to help or do the work. Will see how it goes, thanks for the idea though, I like. -

Help with new Tokico Shocks & Springs
BillZ260 replied to allenrayn's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
You have the lowered springs correct? I had the same concern when I got mine together. The spring is shorter than the strut assy when there is no load on it. So it should be fine if this is your concern. Whe you put the strut assy's back on the car just make sure you rotate the spring so that is sits in the seat correctly. Your opinions on my fuel cell and mounting... UPDATE 1/16
BillZ260 replied to BillZ260's topic in Fuel Delivery
UPDATE: My dry fit from the other day was a bit off. I went ahead an cut the holes I had laid out to see how it would actually fit in the car. With the cell in its true possition, it only hangs just at 3 inches below the rear skirt. With the car on the ground there is about 9.5" of clearence to the bottom of the cell. I feel much better about this. I am going to go ahead and mount it in this possition and see how I like it. If there are any problems with it I will move it up 6" later, that is about all I can move it fwd. Do you all have any ideas on runnin a large rubber line from the stock filler to the neck on the cell? I could not find an angled filler neck for the RCI Cell's, do you all know of one? Also the stock rubber filler tube supply line is too larg to fit on the Cell's fill neck. I doubt that I could use a radiator hose, or could I? Will be just over 12" from the stock fill location to the cell's neck and there is about a 2" drop. IDEAS? -

I think that he was experienting with, like, cooling the cam temps or something and just told everyone that he couldn't feel the 100 shot cause he wanted to see if they were as in depth mentaly with the dynamics of his creative mind. SUP...SUP SUP That or he is full os SH!T. Don't see anyone really doing that, or, wait yeah I do. I guess I havn't been on here long enough for you all to know when I am expressing my, sometimes VERY, dry whit. But thanks for checking up on me

I didn't see anything wrong with it.

Your opinions on my fuel cell and mounting... UPDATE 1/16
BillZ260 replied to BillZ260's topic in Fuel Delivery
This is my first complete car build so I am not really thinking about anything else other than how will this car go together? So the answer to that Q, is that I was lining up the fill tube on the tank to the fill tube on the car. I am VERY green to all this stuff. So thanks for the input and keepem comming! I am good with a wrench and instructions but I guess if you turn me loose, with no real prior experienc I CAN be dangrous. So with this tank, I need to have 6"+ for SCCA, probably more for street driving. I didn't want to but looks like i will be putting the cell at lease somewhat in the car. I could mount it on top of the deck but, I do know that that would raise the CG of the car right , i am starting to get this. I will do some more layout and see what I come up with. Keep posting your ideas and comments on this. Thanks! -
Saw a very clean original version just the other day and though it would be cool to have one of those instead of any other modern sedan. Hook up all new electronics and nice seats, and ROLL

I dry-fitted my Fuel Cell last night, I bought blue powder coated aluminum RCI 30x12x9" unit, I think it is 15 Gal. I am mounting as far rearward under the back deck of the car as i can. With it up in it's position I found that the bottom of the Cell will be about 4-5 inches below the bottom of the rear skirt of the car. I am guessing this is ok since the bottom of the cell is about 1" higher than the differental. You guys have any thougts? I cut out my spare tire tub and replaced with 18ga steel circle welded in. Everything seems pretty stiff. I am mounting the cell with two 18ga 3" wide straps with 3/8" rubber pads glued to them for suspension, pads will also be on the top of the cell to keep it off of the metal decking of the car. The straps will bolt on to the bottom of the deck of the car w/ 4 1/4" bolts at each contact point, 16 in all, and wrap all the way around the cell. The straps will also be bolted to the mounting tabs on the bottom of the cell. I really like this cell and I think it will be ok as long as it isn't too close to the ground. This is the cell...http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=RCI%2D2161AC I liked it because the filler neck was on one end and I can easily run a connection to the stock filler on the car.

Texas guys MUST READ! and those passing through...

IT's fine that they pass a law but they need to advertize it on the local news or something. I think it is totally unfair to post a new law that wasn't voted on and not let the public know about it. It seems that if they would have covered it on the 10pm news that everyone the next day would be talking about it and you would have heard, whether you watch the news or not.
