350 Chevrolet Steel Crank, Hi Dome TRW Pistons, 461 casting heads w 202/160 manley swirl flow valves, roller cam and lifters, dial quad tunnell ram w/ holly carbs, mallory dist & accel coil. $1500 I am going to see if they will sell it minus the tunnell ram, if it is clean, should be a decent buy. Otherwilse, will have to resell the ram and carbs, no biggie, but would be easier to do without. What do you guy's think. It's been awhile since i have delt in SBC stuff. Any questions or comments I should make to see if they know what they are talkig about, and make sure I don't look a fool? Thanks!

OBD I & II Code Scanner ??
BillZ260 replied to grumpyvette's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
So could you tell me, i am just wondering here. What if you blocked off the EGR stuff physically and made up some electronic components to send the computer what it wanted to see. If you had the specs for the output of these devices, it should be fairly easy right. So when the components do fail, you could make up an eprom or whatever to tell the Computer what it want to see and not need the stuff? I know this wouldn't be legit, but there are no inspections in OK, just wondering if I happen to put another 100K on this truck and need to replace these components again. $250, hating it! -
thanks for the kind words dos

bill vs big dumb autozone guy me: Need an oil pan gasket for a sbc... az: what year? me: doesn't matter, the dipstick is on the passenger side of the block, so like any 70's vehicle will do. az: I need a make and model sir. me: (Getting pissed now, walk him through a 1/2 ton chevy truck w. auto trans and some other options, forget) Get the gasket home, jack up the motor ready to put it on w/ silicon, cause it is like almost 9 on a sat night and i should have been done an hour ago.....its the wrong one. I really can't recall being more pissed than at that one single moment, what with all the grease, oil and silicone all over the place. I run the stuff back there like 5 min till close, walk directly to the guy ringing someone up. me: You gave me the wrong shit! az: are you sure? me: oh yeah! (Have to walk him through the same vehicle just to prove my point... az: I am very sorry sir, i must have grabbed the wrong one, take this one and they will ring you up over there. me: ring it up yourself, i am out. Took the gasket and left. Man, to this day I avoid that location so I don't have to see that tub of a waste of man. I think my BP just raied 30pts reliving this story, it happend like 8 years ago! Oh yeah, and U-Haul won't rent towable equipment to Explorer owners. The most popular SUV on the market. I wonder what brain child came up with that one.

OBD I & II Code Scanner ??
BillZ260 replied to grumpyvette's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Keep me posted in your learnings. I am guessing you are going into the automotive ind? Would like to know, through your experience, or any other more experienced car techs, what tools the adv joe could buy to keep thier newer cars going when they start to age. I saved 100 bucks recenly by changing out a couple of the EGR components my self on the Explorer, but I still had to take it to the shop and have them analyze it. Was only 30 bucks, but I like to do as much as I can my self. -
has anybody ever tried a zr1 into a z?

OBD I & II Code Scanner ??
BillZ260 replied to grumpyvette's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
ONGO, will any of these test the components, not just give you the code? I rececenly had to take my explorer in to test the DPFE sensor and the vacume solenoid. All i could do at home was see that the sensor was reading the incorect voltage or whatever. If these diagnose as well as code read, well worth it! Thanks! -
I won the radiator, but lost the S&S headers Don't have a puter at home so I wan't there at the last min. Anyway, here is the rad. 55.50 with shipping. Doesn't seem too bad if it is in good shape. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=33602&item=2462069750&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWN%3AIT Does anyone else have an extra set of those S&S headers? Or know where you can get them, or some similar at a discount???

Just wondering, but wouldn't the ceramic help with detonation by vastly reducing the temp in the combustion chamber??? Again, this is a learning question.

Too COOL! That would be a sweet experience. Those care are the epidomy of style, IMO. I wish I had a camera in my wrist watch, could post a pic of the mid 80's caprice w/ a pickup truck bed instead of a trunk. Had bed rails and everything. He wouldn't give ME a ride, some of those rich guys are just snobbs.

What about the Flatish pc's that go round the top of the door jam, use stock stuff? Thanks for the MMC part number!!! How did that work out for you?
-
What about the PARKAY (SP?) WOOD Floor in the bed of the truck? WTF??? That is a new one on me Yeah, definatly strip the interior, paint it black primer, krylon flame job, some draglites, racing buckets and drive.

Wheel debate... opinions wanted
BillZ260 replied to WickedWild's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Unfortunatly, I like them all...My opinions on them? Konig = Real Race style, true performer, go silver or white in paint, very minimalist style, nothing flashy. Panasport = Classic style, not stock, nice cruizer, weekend car, keep the stock chrome and allt he other bits. TD = Bit ricey, but cool. depending on paint scheme, could be good alt to the Konigs. If you go with a solid color car w/ black highlights, this would be a good wheel to have in black. Slick JMO's -
Asside from the performance aspects of this little gem, I love the way it looks. It wouldn't matter if you had an electric motor in this little dude, you are going to get looks and thumbs up all day! Even more with the V8 Rumble! I like, just don't know how many there are in the states? They are pretty rare no?
-
OK, so FINALLY! I get to post some, althoug low quality, pics of my car half way put together and the MOMO's I got from FreakyPainter, at quite the resonable price I might add... Just a note, these are with spacers, and this weekend I will add my toyota brakes when they are complete, enough with the chit chat right? This one I thought would look cool, but I guess my camcorder didn't think there was enought light!

Find and ME job that you will like better, like designing Z parts! Start your own company, something like that. Money might only seem like it doesn't matter until you have none. You will lose all your toys, or you won't have time to play with them. Tough out the crap now while you have a job that makes you money, no job is permanant, you could get let go tomorrow, no matter what company you work for or how secure you THINK your job is. If you are making too much $$ now, save ALOT (20-30% before taxes if possible), retire early. Then do what ever it is you want to do.

Ok, got my calipers and bought new pads, retaining pins and hardware kit because the set of rebuilt calipers didn't come with any of this stuff. Got the pads and the pins in, but I need a diagram or picture of how the anti rattle clips fit these pads. I think I have it but I am not using both pc's of wire. Can someone help? One pc looks like a texas longhorn symbol and the other is a W shape. I think I know where the W fits, but not the T-Longhorns pc.

Seeing all of these computer questions makes me wonder how much work it would be hooking one up to a 2.3 turbo coupe/svo motor. Does this stand alone EMS unit come with it's own new sensors and all that stuff? Or do you have to hook the original stuff to the new computer. What abou tall the vacume lines and all that. Can you get rid of 90% of them like on a regular carb engine where you would really just need one for the brakes and one for the timing? I really have no clue, this might not be the place to start, should I hit up the Ford guys? I was wondering how much work and what all is possible. Just to keep options open really. Thanks for any help.

Are these the correct SBC mounts to use?
BillZ260 replied to BillZ260's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Tim, were you correcting yourself or did you forget to post the correct link, or whatever you were going to post? Thanks -

Wish you wouldn't have posted that one, now my wife is going to want one!

So where can you get good performance brake pads for these calipers? Or do you just need the stock ones?
