  1. my buddy has 2 to the floor. two foot power.
  2. oh the pads i run cost me 14.00, probably about double that retail cost for metal master, the TRD pads from the dealership are abotu 42.00
  3. happy to hear it davy its about time! you coulda called me up about this one, you can use TRD racing pads, they are carbon metallic pads, i went for the cheap route and use metal master pads, kragen ya know did you get a z?
  4. depends on what he means by stabilizer bar, if its a front or rear sway bar, you can still drive it.
  5. i wouldnt pay that money for how easy it is to fab up the scarab mounts, basically a "c" channel steel spacer mount for the motor and a modified datsun trans x member that uses a standard chevy trans mount, you could go to home depot and replicate that kit for like 50.00 total. my car has what looks like the hooker/scarab/johns kit on it, very simple pieces, too simple....
  6. front motor plates are not a bad idea, especially if you plan on banging that car hard, i have had the "c" scarab risers walk on me on the drivers (torque side of the motor) causing all kinds of drivetrain vibration and torqueing off the crossmember on the trans, i would reinforce the chassis(the main cause i think) go with a front plate and reinforce the datsun mount ears and maybe even a little more welding in the front rame rail area.
  7. i think most fi systems use a return line.
  8. thats cool. my favorite part of the straight six is the passenger side, starter, alt, oil filter, electrical, battery, and two hand bellhousing action, heater core, everything has real nice access on that side, its the shiznit. i love my v8 cant stand my b--tch. but one of these days man, imma do a 2.8 with maybe that thermal coating with six tbs and boost of the gods. maybe extruded manifold or something, man that would be a blast. whossh, whoosh. oh hey does anyone know about hoovers n/a project????? i think hoovers car will smoke todd kaneko, and its a daily driver...
  9. hey where you at in frisco? im in the sunset. hey for a turbo swap i say keep it simple just swap motor and trans, plus all wiring and of course the turbo, for kicks i say add an intercooler(aluminum if you can) a blowoff and a big exhaust for kicks, that should be fun while you kick the bugs out of the system, electrical gremlins and what not. by this time you are close to the end of stock datsun efi power, you will have to go motec on that ass with bigger injectors that the system cant handle, and more power which it hates even more, bigger turbo intercooler turbo timer, yeah.... all said and done its very easy swap and can make good power, i would like to do one too some day, but not tonite!
  10. i think hoover is gonna have the title of fastest l- series street car in modern times, so far. man that fool has 3 inch intercooler piping and that stupid crazy turbo header on that thing. a billet bottom end and the electromotive crank billet as well dont help as well. he hollered at me that he has over 30k in that motor alone-its hard to beat that. i think that thing dynoed 300hp at 6psi??? thats nothing for that motor, he could turn up the boost on that real quick. im thinking your basic l28et is pretty cool power right there, and honestly im gonna own a really quick one, real easy to make and easy to keep fast(god maintenance on my stock 280z is love!) im thinking i could have a nice 300hp l-series car that loves long trips one of these days....

    new diferential?

yeah my buddy has a welded r180 in his stock 240z, and he whips doughnuts tighter than my v8 car! just skkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkert!!!!! two leg action everywhere with that thing, its tough stuff, i may still do it for kicks, only takes about an hour and a half to swap diffs, once i deal with this trans x member i discovered to be shattered when i was fixing my shift rods!!! fo' speed!
  12. that long tail muncie might be a saginaw, good trans to but blows up before muncie....

    new diferential?

hey how streetable is that welded rear? i want to weld up one of my r200s and slap it on for kicks.
  14. kevin is a unique individual, when deciding on which powerplant to put in his z, his own personal ethic came into play and i think you heard him talk about this at the dinner table "its the best of the best or i dont swap motors" when he says that what it means in term of the swap is that it boiled down to two motors in his mind: a big block and four speed or the ls1 and the t56 the ls1 and six speed combo would cost a whole lot more to do and you are dealing with a whole lot more variables in that swap which would make it cost a lot more, but you do get a state of the art v8 motor and the infamous double overdrive six speed. great. motor and trans alone would be at least 4500.00 and we would need a bunch more stuff.and its a small block.... kevin was about to do it before we found out that all the cutting was not neccessary! big block country here we come, team maximum scarab(until we come up with a different name for our crew) baby.
  15. I love my sbc car, but were set on big block power from the start, pretty good to go now my buddy just bought another 70 240z thats in good condition, we are going to drop in the 83 l28su motor and trans from the other 70(the one thats getting bb) into the cherry 240 and make it a nice stock car, and then we are going to start prep on the bbz( a dirt nasty street car), from listening the ron and mr. barkley weve decided our plan of action. thanx guyz. our mounting will be the front mounts from a bel air bbc conversion mount kit that uses the front mounts and hooks to the motor mounts, motor is mild 454 with a super t10 trans(we have them both already 454 is out of a tow truck and the super t10 has been in the family for a while and got donated to the cause by yours truly), projected being 425hp and 400lbs, with the potential for more once we dial everything in. ( frame is getting a cage subframes that goe through dash to the motor bay frame rails, hopefully that is all that it will need) the end result hopefully resembles a jtr conversion, and it not, oh well. .... time for new challenges fellas.. we were getting scared of cutting up the car too much and we are excited that we dont have to shred the fenderwells to make it fit, almost "resorted" to doing a late model ls1 t56 swap and even considered a couple of those big inch world products motors, but a big small block is not a big block no if ands or buts about it., Emails to mr. barkley helped talk us out of the small block conversion. nothing against the sbz, but its getting a little common and getting too easy. im going to stay sbc, but depending on how well this goes, i may be next, the Feezy.Leezy 427???? Max Scarab baby Max Skeeezy bay-bay...
  16. hey ive checked out ratsun with my friend kevin, who was the previous owner of my car and a good friend of mine, and he has come to the conclusion that he must have a big block in his z, therby ending out "jtr marathon conversion antics", because of the extended frame mods we will have to do to the car. ive seen a couple good looking bbc cars including that monster that auxilary posted, we are wondering how much cutting will be absolutely necessary to put the bbc in a 1970 240z and as much info as possible will be greatly appreciatd. the motor we are building for the project is a warm 396 and trans will probably be a super t10. all z owners with big blocks please report to the dance floor.
  17. as much as i dig sidepipes, i dont want to use them because they give away my secret. i run a h pipe to a single dynomax turbo muffler, and the only time you can tell i got chevy power is wot
  18. the fox body mustang four lugs bearly do not fit fit with the 4x4.25 lug spacing, i tried them on and tried to f-ck them on for about ten minutes before i gave up. you can machine the ponys to take a 4x4.5. or have the meat inbetween the lugs machined out and i think they will fit. i have a machine shop out here that will punch them out to big widths for about 50.00 a STEEL wheel. this is one of the only areas i havent been able to cheap out so far, and it hurts.
  19. just use the electric ignition from 75-78 or 79-83 they work nice and pretty basic.
  20. the 7speedis the the doug nash 4+3 trans, which is a version of the t10 with an electric overdrive on the back of it, which likes to go out on you sometimes, its advantage is overdrive on command from 2nd to fourth, with a buttn on the shifter, im a fan of that system if i could get one cheap enough. the t56 six speed is very nice, and can take a lot of power.
  21. the younger you start, the more you room you have to grow and the easier it will be to get all this stuff down, but make sure this is what you really want to do, commit yourself to it and do it, i wish i would have picked this stuff up when i was your age, and i wish you the best of luck if you find this is what you really want to do.
