  1. i would like to believe that a car is a car and some things about cars are universal. like running high gears with a radical combo to be able to use all that high end craziness. with a mild motor, mild gears. the z already has this crazy power to weight, you could improve on that even more by having some crazy butt gears and building the motor a little tougher. with a six speed you will comfortably cruise at just about any speed you want without breaking 2500rpm, it will make 4.11 turn into 2.05- in a 01 ss maro ive done 145 at around 3k, it was great, thats the kind of top end you can get with 3.36, i think they have 3.42 gears or something. i wish i had t56 money right now, i would try to stick in some stump pullers and do some camming and all types of pump up to my motor then. economy? economy is when your 5-10k car stomps vipes!!
  2. heres what happend to me. nothing was wrong with any of my mounting but i wanted to do some serious drivin so i drop a solid mount in. shook the crossmember up a little welded it up was ok for a bit broke mustache bar and the xmember again elded it again and strapped it booom bye bye crossmember in two parts. but i do have a stick.
  3. i wouldnt recommend solid mount unless youre ready to do the whole thing solid, mustache bar and all, or you will break something viscious. i already did, and am trying to fix as we speak. oh, i used at least seven feet, i figured that too little amount is bad, and that too much could only be more safe, i used three ubolts to secure it and you do not want to see what it looks like under there! its pretty bad, but it works good and its ghetto. also, check that arrestor strap, im gonna replace mine with nylon cable and a thick suspension techniques bumpstop in the mix too, also will be very ugly. im not the best engineer, but i keep the rubber spinning.
  4. girls drive weird, i know one girl who drives wot all day, even over speed bumps, and only changes the oil when the light comes on, and she wants a z.. i laughed at her. another girl i know only warms her car long enough so that she can put her seatbelt on, then goes wot everywhere, i dont say a word because they both know i can work on cars....
  5. hey is this normal, im runing the toyota upgrade(the simplest one) and upgraded mc, finished it a little while ago and went to drive it around the block, and i find that the pedal is rock hard, it does pick up stronger and higher, but i have to push it really hard to stop, people tell me who ive asked in person that this is ideal and now i can heel toe better now, can i adjust this, i did check for vacum, the vacum line is good, maybe when i installed it i should have used gasket sealer or something in its connection to the booster? could that be a leak, man im puzzled.
  6. you want a little play in it, that way it will move a little, but it wont go high enough to bonk stuff, i dont care, i love the cable fix
  7. i would just wirewheel off the clear coat and scratch up the original finish a little bit, clean it up, using paint thinner liberally, primer with whatever ass primer, and use laquer paint to finish it off, youre going with black arent you? black is easiest to make look good, semi flat or maybe a glossy black?

  14. im getting away with the stock radiator, now having owned a couple zs now, i know that it has been modified, because the inlet and outlet or v8 sized, vs. i think 240 rad has an angled bottom hose part and both necks are real skinny. i believe its a three core, and it works well, except those 5 or 6 real hot frisco summer days, im not into electric fans being my only fan, i run a big flex fan and a turbo saab fan as a pusher, and it works great, im actually going to put the elec fan on my new 1971 corolla and installing two turbo saab fans as pushers, its summer time comiing soon, and i want to give these cats teh summertime blues.
  15. hope its not someones on this site it looks real weird, and he has too many fakie braided hoses on it for me, but it has some serious potential, with some flares a spoiler and some powerplant mods it could be great.
  16. check wheel bearings, could be shakin around see if the longer wheel studs are seated right see if a retainer spring on those four piston brakes is loose or fallin out tires balanced right? shimmy shimmy cocopop
  17. i gotta put it on em, once i get my rear suspension back in the dang car, we gonna go for it. i took the CHROME bottle out for now, im making a cover for it that has other benefits as well, plus i have to redo the lines, man i had that thing rigged something scary! next week, early early in the mornin we gonna do the quarter on 580 from a dead stop!!!
  18. i say keep it simple. a nice set of subframe connectors could be fabbed up and will help everything, things you wouldnt have thought it affected will be affected. braking, acceleration, cornering, you name it, it gets better with these. try looking at pparaska or owens site, or the others, they have some good documentation on them

  20. these cars werent built to take more than 200hp and ft lbs. cmon now, you have to have some type of rollbar/cage in your ride, the girls man the girls! besides that, it just make sense to reinforce something you plan to drive the snot out of, and please dont lie to yourself and say "ill be nice, i wont dog it" man youre gonna dog the crap out of it, and love it! i would say subframes may be enough to stop the frame from flexing, but a good cage thats tied into those subframes makes you a true hot rod- one that likes those ridiculous speeds that these cars are capable of once fully equipped. and of course, none of us wants to see whether or not that reinforcement will hold up in case of something dramatic, but youll be hurtin for certain without it. hey i have those cracks on the roofs too, them is my power cracks!! four speed
  21. thanx guys, i used a combo of all the responses to get it out. i pb blasted the crap out of it and hit it a few times with a socket wrench,m let it sit for a few hours while i ran my errands, then used robo grip plyers to crack that sucker off, didnt check the site out in time to use the flare and vise combo, but luckily didnt round off the nut, which is really easy to do even with the right wrenches. thanx yall.
  22. maybe that kit that they make to put a v8 into a ford focus would be applicable for your application, and a whole lot of cutting
