  1. Happy Unspecified Winter Holidays
  2. I wasted my money on a fiberglass blanket with a foil backing that got wired to the turbo. I mean, it worked but it was ugly and when I had to remove it for service, it just fell apart. This time I made a curved peice of stainless steel and glued fiberglass cloth to the inside of it with Super 77 adhesive. It works at keeping most of the heat off the manifold and surrounding components, it's durable, reusable, and relatively cheap made with materials I had laying around. When the turbo is red hot, I can hold my hand an inch from the shield without getting burned.

  4. Yeah I ordered a Fidanza Flywheel and it's sitting right next to my Sprung ACT six puck disc. I am waiting for the snow to thaw so I can perform the installation. I know the frustration though. What a PITA.
  5. Was the car ever equipped with A/C. Some cars shut down the compressor at full throttle.
  6. Personally I prefer the CLEAN look of the current model over the CLUTTERED look of that one. Nice car anyhow.
  7. I think we run 1:51 avg. with the M3's...can't recall exactly.
  8. Slightly off topic but here's an idea that I would like to see someday in the mag. Similar to what the big rags do, road test some common Nissan/Datsun cars and layout some nice unbiased opinions of the car with some vital statistics such as, lateral-g, braking, slalom, acceleration, lap times....etc. BUT do it with "modded" cars that employ some of the most commonly performed mods. For example, tripple weber ITS Z cars, V8 S30's, 350Z Turbos or supercharged, L28ET swapped S30's, big brake kits, Common 240SX mods, including all things Nissan/Datsun/Infinity ....etc. I am sure that there are plenty of people on the various Nissan performance forums willing to share their cars/trucks for the mag. Try to get a professional driver and an average driver for two opinions. This way we could compare the Nissan/Datsun, cars/trucks, modified/stock to other cars of today and yesterday. I would love to see a well setup ITS, Turbo, or V8 Zcar against a 2007 Porsche or Ferrari.... -Dave
  9. You can tune an engine but you can't tuna fish....nevermind.
  10. My Z was serviced at Bob Sharp in it's previous life. The original owners manual is in a vinyl Bob Sharp sleeve with Bob Sharp cards and paperwork. Maybe someday it will exceed the value of the car itself! Cool keychain. You won't find those everyday for sure.
  11. My ignition switch is a Mobile 1 oil cap. Looks Just like the HVAC controls of the Ferrari F430
  12. I like them a ton also. But they seem to be A LOT less popular outside of the snow belt. Try one, you might like it. Even in the CA sun. The wagons are very roomy and the new STI, although hokey looking, is very purposeful with a nice hatch area and a ton of HP. I would say 400+ hp with modest modding is easily achievable or stick with the regular WRX hatch for a more cushy and economical thrill.
  13. That's funny, I have a sprung ACT center 6-puck waiting to go in also. The solid one hurts my ba**s.
  14. PM me for my Paypal account info. J/K Interior? Seats, harness, cage...
  15. Clive stopped by the house the other night. He has no heat in the car and a 45 minute drive. It was about 22 degrees out. We had his Z in my garage with the heat on so he wouldn't freeze to death on the way home....Listen to that music...not Van Halen, the V8. No crazy stunts. Just a little practice video editing and some sweet sounds. -Dave
  16. http://sccaforums.com/forums/273279/ShowThread.aspx#273279 If you are interested in the car ask Marshall for some photos. The car looks pretty clean from all the photos I saw. He also takes very good care of all his cars. PM me for his email address.
  17. Use a piece of high temp tubing about 1/2" ID and put one end to your ear and fish around with the other end. When you hit the leaky spot it will be suddenly very loud in your ear. Run along the exhaust manifold gaskets and the head gasket lines. Don't forget the exhaust gaskets as well. Welcome to HybridZ.
  18. Phil, I would contact the boys at MS to find out how low you can go with the pulsewidth for size of the injectors. I know that idle can become a real sore spot with large injectors and many people have to reduce fuel pressure at idle to slow down the fuel from giant injectors. I think staged injectors or a true sequential EFI would be the right answer. Remember what happened when your cam was too big for the motor...it took all the fun out. Size appropriately don't get hung up on tape measure wars. IMHO. I am running high-impedance injectors. It's easy on MS-II. My injectors are already near the low pulswidth limit at idle and they are only 42# Ford Lightnings. -Dave
  19. My company closed at 12:30 to spare me the bonehead traffic. I took the less travelled route home, enjoyed the snowy landscape, and fed some snow to the Subie.
  20. I scraped off the pitting paint with a steel chisel, then I scrubbed them for about 10 minutes each with a scotchbrite pad. I wiped them down with alcohol. I warmed up the wheels and rattle can with a hair dryer because it was cold in the garage. It took just a little over one can to do all four wheels with about three coats of semi-gloss black duplicolor. I didn't even mask off the tires and they look great. Unfortunately, the semi-gloss is more glossy than I would like, and up close you can see the pitting underneath. Not really a big deal. I might buy a can of flat black and go over them again next season. I will post a pic later. We are supposed to get about 10-12" of snow today and I have an hour drive home so the pics might be snowy.
  21. Would this craftsman happen to look like the "Tool Time Girl"?
  22. I am about to put the snow wheels on my WRX to get ready for the storm. The wheels are original WRX painted silver clear-coat from the factory with years of pitting and flaking. I want to spray them flat black or flat dark gray. How should I prep the wheels before the rattle can job. I'm not looking for a great finish or anything. I just want a quick color change to hide the pitting and flaking. Should I rub them with scouring pads and then alcohol wipe them first?
  23. I didn't intend to bash any shows. In fact "The Three Stooges" is one of my all time favorites. The restoration and detail work that went into that Toyota is second to none; show, street, or custom. My point, I think, is that what "the man" feeds us on TV, is mostly hype geared to sell advertising space. The real talents often lay hidden in small, obscure, shops (and internet forums) all over the world.
