  1. I am in a similar situation. I'm on the computer if there is nothing else to do...and many times, like now, there is nothing else to do. I read more on the internet than I ever read in print. I usually pick a topic and research the crap out of it. Sometimes it takes minutes, sometimes weeks. I have learned A LOT since the dialup days of compuserve many years ago.
  2. Putting a cleaned up car back together it a great feeling. Looks great! I like the color choice for the valve cover.
  3. Yup, pull down on the tank with the filler tube disconnected and it will move enough to get out the shock. Careful of the hoses on top of the tank, inspect them whle you can see them!
  4. Well the new 2.5 meter ASW-28 Scale Glider needs a pilot. As a matter of fact I have been holding off sealing the cockpit because I want to glue in a pilot figure. Maybe I'll just put a mouse in there. Anyone know a taxidermist? Braap, that LiPo really makes that slow stick fast! I am putting a LiPo into my 2.5M machine. I really like Jazz and Swing...I think it comes from growing up with Looney Tunes. Nice choice.
  5. You fly just like Kimi Raikkonen! ..but I hope you can land better.
  6. You just saved alot of money over a DIY restoration. Congrats. She's a beauty. IMHO, the bumpers need to go, but then again it's just MHO.
  7. It's really about a proper tune for street and driving habits.
  8. I did a pencil sketch as a concept for the 350Z a few years before they released it. It was a sketch/photoshop based heavily on the S30. I submitted it to zhome and they had it posted along with a few other sketches. I lost it and zhome does not have them up anymore... UPDATE! Holy Cr@p I found it! Thanks to waybackmachine.com http://web.archive.org/web/20010203174400/http://zhome.com/titleNov.html Keep in mind this was done in 2000 with my VERY limited photoshop experience.
  9. Either go all out, or leave the hood red. By all out, I mean.... ...a balance of black in the trim, flares, and bumpers.
  10. "New Welding Method" I stand corrected. "New-to-me-Welding Method"
  11. Is "Cheeks" still open in Dayton? I spent some time there when I worked in Cinci on and off.
  12. LOL. Yeah me too especally when milling aluminum too fast! Ever make an aluminum plated end mill before?
  13. ROFL Yeah, I've trained the attack mice to bite where you would least want to be bitten by an attack mouse!
  14. Nice pick. If I had to get a 350Z...that would be the one. Good color. I just can't have a rear-wheel-drive daily driver around here.
  15. Friction Stir Welding. http://www.msm.cam.ac.uk/phase-trans/2003/FSW/aaa.html Basically, a high speed/pressure tool melts the parts together along a seam using no filler materials. Mainly good for aluminum.
  16. This is an area to use "more than needed" because we are not too concerned with a pound or two extra. Also do not use a brittle grade of steel. Brittle steel (or anything) does NOT belong on cars...or bridges. You will get FAR MORE strength per pound by the SHAPE of the piece rather than the thickness of the material. ie. gussets, bosses, trusses, ribs. Common sense makes good engineering also. In order to solve the equation with a solid number result, you would need all the knowns; weights, torque, safety factor, engineering drawings, material specs, weld strengths..freebody diagrams...ughh...I am going to go with the "Make it extra strong!" solution to save the legwork. A good CAD program will do it but you still need DATA. A photo of the existing setup would help to guesstimate.
  17. Remember a while back my steering locked up and I almost totalled tha car? Well anyway, I destroyed the ignition lock trying to figure out if the lock failed. So it turned out to be a stray bolt got caught in the steering column u-joint. I was left without an ignition lock so I took the ignition switch and screwed it to the column cover and then glued a metal tab inside of a Mobile One oil cap and then glued the cap and tab to the ignition switch. Here it is, the totally NON theft proof ignition system CUSTOM starting system. Just turn the knob three clicks to start the car....don't worry there are hidden kill switches...and other unpleasant anti-theft devices. BTW: The little yellow sticker under the gauges says "May Cause Headache". Took it from a prescription bottle. and it's true!
  18. L28ET stock longblock, MSII, TO4B, 15psi, about 300rwhp.
  19. It's a 16 year old urethane air dam that I picked up at an old speed shop. I think MSA still sells it. It's the urethane one that has two holes in it that could be used for brake ducts. I picked it because it's curvy and less angular than some of the other ones.
  20. Well, I was thinking more along the lines of just allowing links to videos that would be hosted on public video sites such as Youtube, Streetfire...
  21. LOL. I've always used hairspray to mount BMX grips. Slippery when wet, glue when dry. Hairspray would work here too. But hey, if you got extra Trojans laying around....
  22. The doors have three (I think) drain holes at the bottom. You should open the door panel and clean out the bottom inside of the door. Funny, people in CA don't know what to do when it rains! LOL. Just Kidding.
  23. Sub Categories: BigPhil, YourRide, Racing, Tech, Non-Z, Other...
  24. I finally got around to filling up my tank and documenting the miles. In and around country roads with about 50% spirited driving I managed 26mpg. My original '76 N/A motor used to get 19-20mpg. I would imagine that on the highway the L28ET with a decent MSII tuned should give me around 30mpg.
